We tied this into a day trip from Montego Bay and the Bob Marley Museum. Only takes about 1 hour to walk around and you have a tour guide like everything else in Jamaica. Learning the history of Jamaica and how an earthquake took part of the land away but produced more land was fascinating. Cost to enter was $16 and our driver/tour guide got in free. If you are heading to Kingstown its worth some time probably would not make the trip just for the fort. Although this is the only fort on the island that has guides and has been kept up

Pas grand chose a voir et cher. Aucun intérêt a dépenser de l'argent pour voir ça. Il vaut mieux aller au musée a Kingston pour avoir des renseignements sur l'histoire de Port Royal.

Learning about Jamaica history at Fort Charles and Port Royal was a very educated and historical experience. Our tour guide was informative, polite, and overall friendly while she showed us around the fort.

Last time we visited here (2012) this historical place was falling apart, and you could walk straight in and see the Giddy House, while wondering if it would fall on your head.

Happy to report that Fort Charles is now renovated, the place is safe, and for your entrance fee you get your own personal tour guide who will tell you of the history of this place. And it has a lot of history to it, from pirate wrenches to famous English admiral Nelson.

We enjoyed the tour and the history, including some fort buildings with displays of furniture of those days. And highlight is the Giddy House, a powder and weapons storage building that sank partly into the ground after the last major earthquake of 1907, and is now at an angle. This makes for great pictures where you can play with perspective, and what is straight and what is not!

Definitely worth a visit if you are in Kingston. Great to do if you come out of Norman Manly airport, it's just 10 minutes from there. Note that the St. Peter Anglican Church next door is also worth a look if it happens to be open!

Fort Charles is closed temporarily for renovations, although you can still walk around the outside, which is still pretty cool. You can see (and touch) the brick fort walls, cannons, and giant anchors. You can look inside the fort through the front gates and read the two historical information signs out front, but that's it. I'm not sure by itself of it's worth the trek, but getting fish at Gloria's is worth the trip, so while you're out here, you might as well stop by and take pictures. The drive out is also beautiful, and once you're out, you get amazing views of Kingston, the bay and the mountains.

The history printed outside the fort is interesting, and the fort is in pretty good shape. The fort and all of Port Royal has great potential, but it's pretty rough around the edges at the moment, with the pandemic still cranking here.

I hope They invest in this area well, as it would be fun to visit with some good tourist shops and fort tours.

next we visited Fort Charles..this was within walking distance..Met up with Peter Gordon..who was the perfect person to do this tour being a royalist ie. person born and grown in Port Poyal..he was so articulate, knowlegable with amusing anecdotes.Great tour
ended the day at Gloria's great food ,slow service, cold red stripes
Great time was had by all ages ranged from 10 to 70 years old

I absolutely loved this place. The tour guide was amazing and was included in the reasonable price of admission. The history of this little gem is so unique and interesting. The ammunition’s store aka the Giddy House was definitely a highlight for me...I have never experienced anything like the feeling when inside it.

After an interesting history lesson by the knowledgeable curator of the museum at Fort Charles, a resident of Port Royal, we went to view the Giddy House on the premises. Fort Charles was built between 1650 and 1660, the first fort constructed in Port Royal. Giddy House was originally a Royal Artillery House meant to store weapons and gunpowder for the adjacent Victoria and Albert Battery. After Port Royal was struck by an earthquake in 1907, the Giddy House partially sank. Its nickname, Giddy House, comes from the feeling you have when trying to stand straight while inside. Some of us felt giddy even standing outside and looking into the building.

I visited here recently with my parents. It was my second visit but their first. Fort Charles gives a good insight into Port Royal's past and is the oldest fort in Jamaica. We enjoyed the free tour provided by our tour guide with the highlight being the infamous Giddy House, a creation of the 1907 earthquake. It really messes with your head! We all really enjoyed our visit and would recommend it.
