Captain Chip Rocks!

Our second visit to Grand Cayman and our second sail with Captain Chip. Born and raised in GC, Captain Chip knows the water, the sandbar, the rays and the reef like the back of his hand. All the rays flock to him when his boat arrives on the sandbar. He knows how to treat the rays well and they know him and his boat. He and his family even worked to take care of the rays during Covid when tourists were not flocking to the sandbar. The rays seem to love the human interaction and of course the treats handed out. You will be glad you booked with Stingray Sailing when in Grand Cayman.

100x's better than expected!

We had been on a Stingray City excursion years ago and had an amazing time. We were afraid that nothing could top that day but really wanted to do the stingrays again. We read the reviews and knew that we were in good hands with Chip. Our friends decided to join us at the last minute. They had also done stingrays in the past and did not have high expectations for the stingray piece of the day. They were along for the catamaran and snorkeling. Stingray Sailing was so accommodating and welcomed just the four of us for a private trip on the beautiful Far-Tortuga catamaran. We were all pleasantly surprised when it turned into one of the best excursions we had ever done. The stingrays were plentiful and swam around us, even gently nudging us for food! Such beautiful, docile creatures. Chip was obviously very knowledgable and we felt so safe with him as our guide. It was so nice to have a small private group, especially after seeing the other excursions of 30 or more people surrounding a few poor stingrays. The snorkeling spot we went to was wonderful as well. Chip was full of interesting stories of growing up in beautiful Grand Cayman as we traveled to and from the dock. I highly recommend.

Great tour!

Chip’s tour was amazing! Well worth the money! No big crowd on his boat. No mishandling of the stingrays. He took great care in the treatment of the rays and informing us how to pet them. Outstanding time out in the water! If you are looking for a stingray city tour, this is the tour to book!

Perfect Tour, Perfect Day

We had an absolutely fantastic day with our group. A return tour for us after a great tour with Stingray Sailing 4 or 5 years ago. Captain Chip and Kyla are welcoming and friendly. By being on the first tender off of our ship, we were able to beat the cruise ship tours out to Stingray City and enjoy the stingrays. Captain Chip brings bait and you can pet the stingrays. He treats them with respect and they swarm all around him because of it. He has an awesome yellow lily pad that you can float on if you don't want to be in the water with the rays. My kids had a lot of fun on the lily pad. We then went to Starfish Point. There were less starfish there now as more boats are visiting. We still saw 3 and the beach is pretty and the waters are calm. I cannot recommend doing a private catamaran tour if you have a larger group (we had 10 people). It was the same price or less than the cruise excursions, which were PACKED full of people We had the boat to ourselves, lots of space, bottled water provided. I would take this tour over and over again with Captain Chip when returning to Grand Cayman.

Awesome time with an intimate size group.

Chip was awesome. He was knowledgeable about many aspects of the water, fish and vegetation. Very accommodating to our groups needs, as the waves got overwhelming during snorkeling. Be sure to bring your own underwater camera. He does not provide photos but took many for us. He was even helpful with other groups trying to pet the stingrays. The price was perfect also. I highly recommend this specific tour and swimming with the stingrays.
He also gave us good information for our time on the island, since he was born and raised here.

Best service, no crowds and true caring for the enviromental impact

I have been to Grand Cayman at least 10 times in the past 20 years of cruising, and there is no other tour company that comes close to Stingray Sailing for visiting Stingray City. Book online, personalized service from this family operated business. It is a lovely catamaran, (not a cruise excursion cattle boat), very stable, with a max of 20 passengers. Chip will get there before the crowded ship tours, and explains very clearly and carefully what to do to have the best experience with the rays. He is so well known by the rays that they follow the sound of his engines , and flock to him when he is in the water with his clicker. He is truly concerned about your comfort level, as well as his treatment of the rays - never grabs them or lifts them out of the water. He also provides free snorkel equipment if you choose to snorkel the reef. Believe me, there is better tour guide and he is the reason we come back year after year.

Fantastic Day

We were myself, husband, adult daughter and son-in-law. We sailed on the Disney Fantasy in October, 2019. My husband and I had been with another day tour before to the sting rays and snorkeling and booked that one for the four of us. Our ship was an hour late and no one else showed for our tour - quiet day on GC. Our operator asked if we minded joining this one. We said no problem and never had any regrets. There was a family of 5 and another couple - 11 people. We had a great time talking to the "captain and first mate". They took us away from the crowded area and we had a great sting ray experience. Then they took us to the reef to snorkel. I've snorkeled all over the Caribbean - including GC and this was about the best. Great adventure for the price. Very family friendly. We will contact them again the next time we are in the Cayman Islands.

We went on our second excursion with Stingray Sailing and it was fantastic. We love that you are not in a crowded boat and that Chip and Matt are so thoughtful to the stingrays. When you pull up, the stingrays immediately gravitate to this boat because they know who to look for.

Also, a huge shoutout to Matt who is amazing with the stingrays especially since his first job was with training Southeastern stingrays. He was so helpful today with the waves while petting the stingrays and our two girls (6&7). He was so wonderful!

An amazing experience awaits you!

There were two main reasons we booked with Stingray Sailing: 1. it was on a sailing vessel rather than a crowded motor boat and 2. they avowed care and safety for the stingray.

We had plenty of room on the catamaran - with only Chip and Matthew to guide us and 6 other guests. We saw many stingray tours with boats crammed shoulder to shoulder. Our experience was far better.

We were first told and then shown how to interact with the stingrays. Being in the sea with these huge fish was truly a fabulous experience. They are gentle and very sociable. We fed them little fish (sardines?), stroked them and admired them in their natural habitat. Chip and Matthew were very caring about both the fish and their guests.

After about 45 minutes in the water with the stingrays we moved on to a reef for snorkelling. This too was a wonderful experience.

We would recommend Stingray Sailing in a heartbeat!

Definitely the best

Everything you read about this trip is true - they really do care deeply about the animals and their welfare. The stingrays swim out to meet this boat as they recognise the engine note. As soon as the lovely Matt gets in the water, he is surrounded by his friends - they all have names. They obviously love him and give him kisses and come for tickles. Even the fishy treats are thought through - whole fish with bones for their health.

He ensures you have a magical experience interacting with these beautiful animals, the feeling of the smaller males gliding over your feet and legs is unforgettable. The operators of most of the other boats mistreat the rays, and their clients must have a very poor experience by comparison. On the snorkelling stop, one lady trying it for the first time became a bit anxious in the water, Matt spotted this instantly and I’ve never seen anyone move so fast, diving in to the water to reassure and assist her.

Captain Chip is a lovely person, he took time to show us his other gorgeous boat which he charters privately. We hope to return next year, and will do it all again, maybe even save up for a charter! Cannot recommend this company highly enough, as I’m mindful of not condoning animal exploitation, but Stingray Sailing don’t do that at all. Best Caribbean experience ever.
