We did a rainforest hike with O’Neil and it was exceptional! He was a wealth of knowledge, explaining the history and pointing out all plant and animal life along the trails. My kids loved keeping pace with him, asking him questions along our experience. Was a great day!

The hike itself gets a 2/5. If you decide to go - Oneil (our guide) gets a 5/5. Just to get into some of the pros and cons:
Pros:
-Oneil is fantastic. You can contact him at oneilmulraine@hotmail.com. He's a great guide. Knowledgeable, helpful, and courteous. (We passed other groups along the way, and another tour guide referred to him as "The General" because of his expertise).
-There are stretches of spectacular landscape, both along the trail, and at the top.
-And tons to learn about the trees, animals and foliage. Oneil keeps it light and educational (and funny!).
-And the canopy keeps things cool for the majority of the hike. (And a refreshing cool blast at the top).
The Cons:
-I've hiked many corners of the world. The Canadian Rockies, the Hudson Valley, the Calanques in France. This was the *most* difficult hike I've ever done. A member of our group tapped out after an hour, and went back down to the bottom with a group that was heading down.
-To that point - it is a "climb" and not a "hike" for many portions. You're using tree roots as ladders, hoisting yourself up some rocks, etc. Not impossible, but quite strenuous.
-Your. Shoes. Will. Get. Destroyed. From. Mud. They say to wear good hiking shoes. Instead, I wore my back-up sneakers. Upon arriving back at the hotel, I tossed them.
-There was almost complete cloud cover at the top. So, the views were quite limited on our day. (In watching You Tube, it looks like other days offered a *spectacular* view. Alas, we didn't get that.).
So for all of the effort, the juice may not be worth the squeeze.
That said, if you go, absolutely contact Oneil. Great guide.
And bring more water than you think you need. And a snack.
(And do an anti-cloud dance).

We booked a rainforest hike through our hotel with O'Neil Tours and had the great fortune of being O'Neil's only guests that day. From the moment he picked us up at our hotel, he was friendly, considerate, and a wealth of information about St. Kitts and especially the local wildlife and plant life. As he guided us through the forest hike, he took care to ensure that we were within our comfort level and were enjoying our day to the fullest. His knowledge of the forest was informative and rewarding; in addition to the many species of plant life, we saw hummingbirds up close and Green Vervet monkeys up above! Our morning hike with O'Neil remains one of our most cherished memories of the beautiful island of St. Kitts!

Wow ! What can we say 💚 Definitely left a piece of our hearts on this trip - to the forest and to O’Neill our guide, who promptly collected us from our hotel in the morning and expertly cared for us on the mountain trail.
It was our first time in a rainforest and to hike up a volcano. It was amazingly beautiful and provided a very varied and interesting trail of trees roots, rocks, boulders and gullies, while the forest sheltered us from the heat and a cooling mountain breeze through the trees provided more comfort as we climbed.
On the trail, we were expertly guided every step of the way (safely up and down the mountain) by O’Neill - a 66 year old force of nature, who looks after the trail and takes great pride in the mountain and the experience he provides to the people he guides. Along the way, he chatted to us about the mountain, the plants and the animals. He had a perfect sense of when to stop us for to rest and gently move us on again, providing the perfect pace.
It has to be said we enjoyed O’Neill’s company and the security he provided, as much as forest, the trail and the summit. We quickly realised we were in the safest of hands and cannot thank O’Neill enough for everything.
A useful note - We got Oneil’s details from our hotel reception and emailed him directly to arrange the trip - this proved to be considerably cheaper than booking through an agent and O’Neill got back to us within 24 hours.
oneilmulraine@hotmail.com.
Until next time O’Neill Mulraine. We’ll hopefully be back for another mountain tour in a couple of years xx Carla and Avonelle

Excellent trip. People were amazing. Small island however plenty to do. Did Volcano hike. It is challenging but worth it, 6 1/2 hrs round trip. Visit to Nevis for the day by water taxi, nice day. Stayed at Hilton for a week, very pleasant but away from everything recommended a car rental if you stay there. Taxis are $15-20 every time. . Stayed at Marriot , very nice full service resort and small shopping complex across the street with groceries & pharmacy. Can walk to numerous restaurants. Drove to Hilton hotel at the southern tip a couple of times, amazing hotel great beach near the Hilton that locals go on the Caribbean side., this is where you can take the water taxis to Nevis, only 6 min ride. Spent the day at Pinney Beach near 4 Seasons Hotel. Can use US$ or local XCB (easy) . If you use local make sure you check your change. A coupe of time they tried to short change me. Would go back

I came on a mother/daughter trip through my mom job so I was a plus 1. When I seen the option for a hike I just knew this is the tour that I wanted. This tour was amazing! Mr.O'Neil was 10/10 his knowledge of this tour to have the privilege to hike with the man who created this nature hike was a pleasure.(over 48years) say less. The different plants and herbs and history behind this forest just set it off for me! I highly recommend for any one who don't mind climbing walking and exploring book your tickets neowww! I'll be back! Thank you for allowing me in your space 🙏🏾

I love hikes and challenging hikes. I have hiked lots of mountains and this was the hardest one. I have never been so miserable. I’m in my late 20’s and go to the gym everyday and this was hard for me. Got to the top and could not even see anything. Very slick. Very dangerous!!!

Great way to see Mt Liamiga, and the hike up was challenging. I had to stop plenty of times to drink water and catch my breath. This is not for the faint of heart. I was proud to have made it. Our tour guide Paul was great and very funny. Sadly it was cloudy when we got to the top so didn't get to see inside the crater...the clearing came when we hit the bottom...lol, well, thats mother nature for you.

This is a very difficult hike. I would recommend this for young, fit, experienced hikers. We are older (mid-60s), somewhat fit, with some hiking experience. We were in survival mode most of the hike. Our guide Leshawn was good. He encouraged us in the beginning and kept telling us to take it slow. The hike took us (four people)EIGHT hours and we were all concerned we would not get out before dark, which we did.

This is a very nice hike. We did it solo, without a guide, and enjoyed it. The hike is well marked and a guide is not necessary if you just want to get up and down. The weather will dictate what kind of view you get at the top, but in general it was a positive experience. I would recommend hiking boots or other shoes with a good grip; it can be slippery on the rocks.

Do you pick up at the cruise port for the hike?
Also, do you have ago limits?
Thank you

Is there another way to experience the volcano without having to hike there? We are unable to hike. Is there a way to ride up to it? Taxi? Or? Thx
We are going the first week in November
Skrevet 17. september 2018
You can do an island tour in a helicopter and they fly over the volcano
Skrevet 13. desember 2018
We actually booked him through the hotel desk, so I can’t help you with the contact details.

We are planning a trip there soon, and everyone seems to have found a guide through their taxi drivers or their cruise ship . Are there guides at the foot of the trail? Or near the park itself ? Thx
Skrevet 28. mai 2017
No. Any guides you find there will already be hired/ working. Entrance to park/ trailhead seems pretty remote and noncommercial.

Hi, does any one have info on the trail of the TRUE SUMMIT of Mt Liamuiga? The trail that starts N. of the mountain. Would really appreciate some info! Thx
Skrevet 26. januar 2017
No they did not take us to actual highest point. We just went to the crater rim

Qtpie, your post totally contradicts your initial comment about your adventuras side. Tables, bathrooms. It's outdoor hiking. Not a stair climber at your local gym. Your post is embarrassing.

Is the trail marked enough to do it without a guide? I've done plenty of climbing in the past, so not worried about physical fitness at all. Just don't want to have to have a tour guide or be in a slow group.
Skrevet 20. oktober 2016
There is a worn path to the top. However, it's basically through gullies and erosion wear from water run-off. And there are a few sections that if you didn't know which way to go, you could easily make a wrong turn.
This is NOT a State Park/National Park path. And unless you've been there before, you really wouldn't know how to get to the start without a guide - even following the directions folks have given here on TripAdvisor. I had thought about attempting it myself, but after getting there, and going on it with a guide, I'm glad I didn't try. I would have gotten totally lost trying to get there, and then on the trail.
Skrevet 10. januar 2017
we would also like to go without a guide. How would we get to a starting point from the docks for Carnival cruise line. ?
Skrevet 22. mars 2016
No way without a guide. Even following the directions here on TA, you'd still get lost. (I thought of doing it myself, too, but after doing it with a guide, I realize just how hard the trailhead is to find, plus to know which way to go on it.)
Skrevet 10. januar 2017
We are going to be visiting St. Kitts next week and would like to book the hike directly with O'Neill. Does anyone have the contact details? It doesn't appear to be listed online.
