As ruins go this one well and truly counts a complete-ruin. Virtually nothing left which is a tad disappointing. Access is also a bit bizarre i.e. almost like driving thru a disused industrial complex. That said, once inside the 'fort' the views back into town/out to sea are pretty amazing and worth the visit just for this to be honest.

What struck me most was the cannons. Probably around 8-10 of them (admittedly not very well mounted etc) but some bearing the 'GR' motif i.e. George 1st. You suddenly think 'gosh they are jolly old' plus - as a Brit - it does tie a bit more back into the history of the place.

Came here while following the Nevis heritage trail map. Interesting but a shame it's gone to wreck and ruin! Could be a good little stop while visiting if cleaned up and cut back. Nice cannons and view across the bay to Charlestown.

There is not much of anything here. Pretty much just a roadside sign and very little under kept ruins.

This took some finding as there were no signposts from Charlestown. Don't be put off by the derelict housing estate at the end of the track - the fort ruins are just behind it right on the water's edge. A few walls and some cannon are all that is left.

The fort is quite tricky to find, but once you see the blue heritage signs just follow these to the edge of the coast.
Very disappointing to see the area so run down, overgrown and with derelict buildings.
If you wonder around you will see parts of the old fort but most of it is eroded and broken away.
Fantastic views from here across to st Kitts and to Charlestown.

We only came here as our excellent guide Ahmed (869 667 2169) brought us here as he was born on the island.

There is not much to see except the ruins with a little effort could be improved. However the views were spectacular and you could see why the fort was built there with clear views of the sea to spot early any invading ships.

Information boards could quite easily be put up showing how and when the fort was established and the area cleaned up so more tourists would visit. A great shame the Nevisian Government does not want to be proud of their heritage and encourage people to visit the old fort with it's associated history.

This small fort played in integral part in history of not only Nevis, but in the eventual development of the British empire in the Caribbean. However a severe lack of money and resources, means that the ocean is eating away at parts of the grounds and there are artifacts here that are not being looked after or preserved...walking around, one is instantly disgusted by the amount of garbage strewn and the proximity of a disastrous effort to put a resort here....this is almost a forgotten part of important Nevis history and deserved a lot better....if I lived here permanently, this would become my pet project....take the bath road to the end and you will find it.....tread carefully and leave nothing by footprints....

Fort Charles in Nevis (confusingly there is also a Fort Charles in St. Kitts), is the ruins of a colonial fort that was built on the top of a rocky point at the south end of Gallows Bay, south of the Charlestown, the capital of Nevis. Fort Charles was actively used in colonial times to guard Charlestown from attack by sea. (In colonial times the small island of Nevis was a very wealthy and very busy island because of the importance of the sugar trade and the slave trade.)

The site has however not been restored or fixed up for tourists in any way, and as a result it is extremely overgrown with weeds and visited primarily by goats.

The wall are partly ruined, but there is still a 10-foot high retaining wall with gun emplacements and a few cannon pointing out to sea, and a water tank and one other small building are still almost intact. However, the fort is rather hard to find, and is not worth the effort unless you are a serious history buff who has the vision to see past all the weeds and ruination.
