If you are the adventurous type would highly recommend kayaking over there. We rented a tandem Kayak from blue collective. Just showed up, no reservations. That being said I would recommend some experience in a kayak if you choose this, as you are crossing a busy boat channel. But if you are experienced kayaker, very doable and worth the short 30-35 min trip to the bay. We found a spot to land down a little way from the entrance and found a trail that took us to the other side where a beautiful bay was. We were alone for about 10 min before a tour group came. I would definitely pack a lunch and set up a spot on that bay again if you have time!

Ohmigosh these endangered rock iguanas are tooooo cute! I've never seen an iguana in its natural habitat, and I was excited to see them. They like to hang out under the shade, because it's hot as heck even for the iguanas! To find them, walk slowly and keep your eyes open. You can also look on the ground for tell-tale, well, tail marks, as you would expect from an animal walking with a tail on the sandy ground. They are cute!
The water on this island is also amazing on both sides, including Half Moon Bay on the north. You'll want to bring shoes to walk around and get from one beach to the other side, as there are lots of pine needles, rocks and other ground, including, yes, hot sand.
If you have a chance to see these critters, do it! So cute!

We were stunned by the beauty of this little island. It is such a beautiful place although it requires transportation to get there.

Took a tandem kayak over to visit the Iguanas. Didn't see as many as we thought we would but we had a good time walking the area. CAUTION: Taking a kayak across the channel can be very challenging due to the currents, NOT recommended for anyone that isn't in descent physical condition

So incredibly cool. It's an island with native indigenous iguanas all over it, kept as a nature refuge. Really awesome. We chartered a little boat just for my wife and I, we didn't want to go on one of those half or full day tours and also didn't want to stay on the island that long. We walked about 30 mins down the trail, saw the iguanas everywhere and then stopped for a snack, break and swim at a deserted beach. Then walked back and got our boat back. Spent about 90 mins there, which was perfect. Bring bug spray - the mosquitos are pretty intense in the middle of the island.

Our kids were SO excited to see so many iguanas, and the water was amazing and the beach was like a dream!

This is an island you can get to only by boat. We have been there many times as part of snorkel boat tours.
The snorkel boat tour boats make this part of each stop, typically after the snorkeling part of the trip is over. Most of the time this is where the crew makes lunch, particularly if they are making fresh conch ceviche. If they are, they demonstrate on the beach how to clean the conch and remove it from the shell.
You can walk on the island and to the other side to get in the Atlantic. The island has a population of iguanas who will approach you and make for interesting viewing. There are no facilities on the island.

This cay is also known as Iguana Island and it is obvious why once you land. I was there with a snorkel excursion and we landed at half moon bay. The iguanas were all over and for the most part stayed very still as you got close which made for great photos. Also in sections that get covered in water at high tide, you will see tiny little holes with beads of sand around them, these are homes to tiny crabs. They get scared when they feel vibrations but I had one little guy pop out for me. The beaches are also lovely and a great place to catch some rays.

We kayaked over as part of a tour with Big Blue Collective, and had a great tour guide with Rico. The iguanas were a little less active that morning (we were told), but still managed to see quite a few. We had some time to explore the beach area on our own,and our guide spend that time picking up trash that had washed up. It would be fun to visit again.

Can you swim to the island instead of taking a kayak or a tour?
Skrevet 16. oktober 2019
If you rent a Tandom from big blue Collective do they provide admission to enter the boardwalk at iguana island?
Skrevet 7. oktober 2019
I’m not sure you can get there unless you had your own boat or did a private tour

What is the best way to get to iguana island for a nonswimmer with a baby?

Hi! I have a question...once you are on Little Water Cay can you walk to Half Moon Bay? If not, how can you get there?
Skrevet 18. januar 2016
Yes! It's a short walk over the hill to HMB. The folks at Big Blue Unlimited are very helpful. Rent your kayak from them. They'll give you a map and directions. Kayaking to Little Water Cay took us maybe 20 mins. It was very easy and totally worth it!

If you are not actually staying at the resort, is there a way to buy a day pass to enjoy the amenities for a day? Thanks!
