Tripadvisors tilnærming til anmeldelser

I have always admired Jospeh Parry for his wonderful song Myfanwy which I absolutely cannot listen to enough, always wanted to visit the cottage so I have now seen it, in a terrace row of tiny 2 up 2 down cottages, no 4 Chapel Row, the gentleman who was a guide inside was very helpful, it was well set out, you cannot access the upstairs via the original stairs as they the steps are so small and steep, you get upstairs via the office at the back and up the stairs that way, I did think they could have had his song Myfanwy vaguely playing in the back ground for effect but that is just me free to gain entry well worth a visit

Literally saw a sign and pulled in, having been to Merthyr many times I’m struck by little pockets of history. Ideal visit for children and adults.

Dr. Joseph Parry the musician and composer was born in one of the ironworkers cottages. The cottages, built in the 1820's,housed the skilled workers of the Cyfarthfa Ironworks.
Without giving too much away for those wishing to visit. The inside of Joseph Parry's cottage has furniture etc as it would have been in the early/mid 1800's.
At one end of the row of cottages are the remains of a chapel of that era and in front of the cottages is a small section of what was the Glamorganshire canal which carried iron from the 4 Great Ironworks in the area which ran from Merthyr Tydfil to the docks in Cardiff.
Surely worth a visit before going on to the grounds of Cyfarthda Castle and museum which is just a short distance away.

If our subject is born in a small cottage, by necessity the museum is going to be small, and so it is, but it's full of information and well worth visiting.

Take a step back in time and relive the old days with this fabulous old Welsh cottage. So quaint and lovely to see how one of our famous songwriters lived. Very enjoyable and well worth the visit.

To see this tiny house and realise it nurtured the great Joseph Parry - and a tune known not just in the UK but famously in the US. The remains of the large building at the end of the terrace is unexplained and the info on the canal wanting but still go and see it

its not huge but very interesting Easy to get to but not lots of parking very close I would suggest parking on the small industrial site opposite Plenty there and its 2-5 minute walk. Chapel Row cottages have historical links to the former Cyfarthfa Ironworks .the living room includes the stove, which contains a bread oven; it was this was used for cooking and heat for the cottage On The ground floor is the bedroom in which Joseph Parry was born,

We have tried to visit Joseph Parry's birthplace several times, but it has been closed, so we're very pleased to be able to get inside! We parked on the grass verge just outside, and spent a pleasant half hour looking at the inside of the cottage. The downstairs rooms are furnished as in the nineteenth century, when Parry's family lived there, and very comfortable they would have been. Overcrowded by our standards, but better off than the inhabitants of Stack Square in nearby Blaenavon, which radiated poverty. Upstairs there are two rooms given over to exhibitions about Joseph Parry's musical career, and an attractive model of the cottages. There were two custodians there, but no sign of the shop which was advertised. An opportunity was thus lost to sell CDs of Parry's music, post cards etc. it would have been nice to have his music playing, though this might have become tedious for the keepers. The cottage is just off the main A470 past Merthyr Tidfil, not difficult to find, but now the terrace is rather on its own, amid semi industrial sprawl.
