The castle is certainly an impressive building and dominates the park. It is a rather ugly building in a mock castle style. The cafe near the playground was good and we enjoyed sitting outside as it was a beautiful day when we visited. There were some nicely laid-out flower beds and the playgrounds were excellent.

Visited this castle on a limb with my sister while on holiday, but I'm glad we did!
The gardens were full of well kept flower beds, and it looked lovely even in the bad weather.
The museum tickets are only available to purchase online, which was really easy to do on the website. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. Inside the museum was some Welsh history, lots of information to read, and very interesting.
I would really recommend visiting, especially on a rainy day in the Brecon Beacons!

We parked here to walk part of the nearby Taf Fechan trail to see the dippers fishing but ended up spending a couple of hours on our return to the castle. The castle museum has much to tell about Merthyr's early puritans; the history of organised labour; coal-mining, iron-making, the Hoover washing machines and Sinclair C5 factory. My favourite however was the drawing room with a big radiant Christmas tree and a small but excellent selection of paintings and illustrations by Welsh artists - including but not confined to Kyffin Williams.

The castle itself is closed - this is important information that should be on the website.
The park with lake is beautiful- good for picnic/jog.

Very friendly staff on arrival offering a warm welcome. Interesting small museum, well laid out and lots to look at. Clean toilets. Plenty of benches in the grounds to enjoy the views and a picnic. Tranquil walks. Small train and funfair near lake when we visited.

Wonderful museum if s little dated
Excellent section on the politics of the area and the struggles of the local people
Big negative that you can only buy tickets online
We turned up to be told I had to stand in the doorway and spend 10 mins booking and clearing it by credit card
Ludicrous when there were two on the door doing nothing
Change that as older people and busy families are walking away

Visited Cyfartha Castle early in the summer, and I really enjoyed it. The grounds are very well-maintained and beautiful. There was a lot to see, such as the 'castle' itself (a castle only in style I'm afraid, but no less grand), the lake, and the paths through the park. I also spotted a miniature railway, which looked great for families. The grounds were wonderful, and it was the perfect place to have a picnic.

Inside the castle, the staff were very friendly and pleasant. There was a gift shop, bathrooms, and a museum. I didn't get the chance to look in the museum, but I'm considering going back at some time to learn more about the castle, and Merthyr itself.

The only negative experience I had was the café. The staff were also friendly and pleasant, however the courtyard itself looked tacky and run-down. I asked for a cup of tea, but I was given a mug of hot milk with a teabag in instead.

Despite this, I had a great time at Cyfarthfa Castle, and I would not hesitate to come here again. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the area. Though just don't order a cup of tea (or ask for no milk).

Cyfarthfa park lake is really becoming terrible. It’s such a beautiful park and the castle is stunning but the lake is just awful.
We went for a walk around it on a lush sunny evening. Noticed that the lake is SO shallow that all the underground is becoming visible and there are DEAD FISH on show because they are lacking oxygen. Surely they need to clean the pipes or whatever it is that supplies the water? Not a pleasing sight. Also people throw SO MUCH BREAD to feed the ducks it’s full of it and all gone green. I know this isn’t the parks fault but surely there should be someone monitoring the lake and can remove this? At least put up a sign saying stop feeding them bread. Green bread, hats, a bin, bricks, cans, crisp packets - all thrown into the lake. It’s disgusting.
The orange life ring was also chucked in - I wonder how long it’s been there for? Imagine if you actually needed it in an emergency. Actually you probably won’t because there’s no water in the lake!
The bins are VILE. How much effort does it take to clean or potentially paint a bin??? I would happily offer my services to do this if I’m honest.
And the exercise stands are MINGING! COVERED IN FLIES AND GREEN MOULD. Where are cleaners!!!!

Does no one care about the place we live in anymore??? Please some do something!!!

I decided to take a quiet stroll around the lake which was absolutely lovely. There was no one around apart from the ducks and a couple of fish. I happily shared my sandwich with the locals (ducks). After walking around the grounds I had a drink and slice of cake at the coffee shop. The lady who served me was really friendly. After my snack i visited the museum which gave a great historical insight into Merthyr. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Cyfartha Castle and would definitely return next summer to have a picnic.

Went on Monday for a lovely walk in the park and meadow trail specifically. Thoroughly enjoyable and very quiet. The museum has a small charge but worth visiting simply to say you've been. Some nuggets of facts that will open your mind too about Merthyr Tydfil.
