Free car park so that's a good start on the other side of the road to the iron works. A huge steam hammer dominates the car park.
Having paid a small entrance fee you follow the guided map you are given through several exhibition's some quite load but very good.

Even though the attraction isn’t over a large site, there is still a lot to see and take in. Loved looking around the cottages and watching how iron was made with a clever show of lights and film. The staff were lovely and we will be returning with family when they come to visit.

The ponies got an annual holiday in the field without their harnesses. The workers had to work 24 hours straight when they changed from night shift to day shift and vice versa. It is interesting that the invention by the ironworks Chemist brought about its eventual demise. This site is so well presented with signboards and audio/visual displays. You can enter furnished workers’ cottages in chronological order to see how they lived from the late 18th century to the late 20th century

Very friendly staff in reception and an interesting experience. This isn’t a huge place so it is definitely worth booking somewhere else near by if making it a full day out.

What an amazing step back into history. A fantastic guided tour from Mike, an amazing audio-visual introductory show, and an inspiring site. Not just a site of important industrial heritage, but with its cottages and stories of the people past, it is a site of important social heritage too. The filter coffee in the shop is decent too.

A great place to visit, really interesting and quite a few different aspects to see (both the industrial side and residential side).
The staff were really helpful and knowledgeable. I was lucky enough to have a one on one overview of the activities at the furnace. The level of knowledge was phenomenal and really made the visit.
I'd definitely recommend it for anybody in or visiting South East Wales.

Outstanding! An important part of our national and industrial history that provides a fascinating insight to our recent past.
Staff here are personable and very engaging - well done!
The site is a true treat with an ingenious 'show' which brings things to life.

Enjoyed the ironworks but the little information panels about steelmaking were a bit sketchy and needed more detail. One location is a big foundry (I think) hall with a film show, but the audio was difficult to understand as it used a roaring furnace background sound effect obviously meant to be atmospheric but which obscured the words. The video was projected onto the rough stone walls and I know what they were trying to do but it was hard to discern what was happening.
The old workers' cottages were interesting. I think there were 5 of them.
The ironworks are run by CADW and I think it cost £23 for 2 adults and one child. There is no cafe but there is ice cream. You can walk to the ironworks from Blaenavon's heritage centre in 5 to 10 minutes if you are physically fit.

We enjoyed our visit to the Ironworks (which, as English Heritage members, was free). In particular, we found the workers cottages fascinating; they took us on a journey from when the houses were first built (c1790) to when the final tenants left (late 1960s).
Well worth a visit.

Dear Kevin,
Allow me to express my surprise for the idea. Frankly, I cannot imagine where on the site, either sheltered or in open air, any event like a wedding banquet or similar could be carried out, provided the premise management would allow it.
There are so many castles in Wales, that you shoud not have the difficulty to find a more romantic and suitable site for the purpose
