Wonderful restorative dose of Nature!
jul. 2021
Tranquil setting with huge volume of birds. Particularly enjoyed watching half a dozen herons flying close past the hides, strings of chicks following a variety of mothers, the birdsong and beautiful wild flowers. We are not bird watchers but we could have spent hours here and would be a regular visitor if we didn't live in Devon! Helpful staff, very cheap car park, hot drinks and snacks, clean toilet facilities. No entrance fee so please buy a snack or drink to support the wildlife trust keep this place going! A wide range of walks and access to the dunes/coastal path. Really useful bird id charts on the walls of the hides to help you work out what they are and a board records all the species seen over the recent days. Hope to return.

Excellent small reserve
mai 2021
Liked this reserve so much we went back. There is an excellent path part of the way around the lakes, the top end of the lake has a grassy path that can get muddy (there was heavy rain for part of out stay in the area). Good hides (two households only at present) and friendly staff and volunteers pointing out what is about.

Clean toilets, although not many of them. Cafe was closed but a refreshment van available. £2 parking fee.

Not sure if I should say what birds we saw there apart from the tree sparrows but there were young birds my wife photographed (from a safe distance on the path) and we also saw a red squirrel on a feeder by the car park. Some year birds for me.

Local walks
sep. 2020
The walk around the park is great, the views are great, the birds are great , the cafe is great- what more can I say!
The only downside was some brainless idiots trashed the hides a week ago , so that will cost a great deal to repair - thankfully the donations are coming in from the folks out there who appreciate the good things in life.

Enjoyed excellent coffee and homemade cheese scones served by 2 very hardworking, friendly ladies in cafe here today.
Good covid security adherence.
Followed by a lovely walk around the Lake observing the autumn colours and wildlife.
A perfect day out.

A quiet visit
okt. 2020
A quiet visit but did witness a rabbit being chased around the car park by a stoat - made a few appearances but think the rabbit managed to get away.

Very Relaxing
sep. 2020
Another great walk here and lots of birds to see. Made the mistake of going on Monday and it's closed Monday so had to go back Tuesday. I think it used to be free to park but there is a small charge now. The cafe is not open but there is a refreshment trailer (see photo) which, amongst other things, sell some interestingly flavoured scones. I think the signage has improved since last time.

Homemade scones and beautiful nature
sep. 2020 • Familie
Hauxley is a signpost we have passed many times on our trips into Northumberland but on Thursday 3rd September 2020, on the advice of a representative from Northumberland Wildlife Trust, we decided to visit the reserve and we were not disappointed.
It is a fairly steady walk around a lake with a number of hides. Wall charts help to identify the variety of birds. The setting is so beautiful. One direction is the sea and the other way is the vast expanse if Northumbria with the Cheviots in the distance. The staff were so friendly, the obligatory safety measures well implemented and although the cafe hasn't reopened yet, there is a small refreshment van, selling drinks, crisps, chocolate, a selection of sandwiches and the most amazing scones. The cheese and onion scones are the nicest I have ever had but be warned, they sell quickly. There are a number of picnic benches so sit at and enjoy the fresh air. It was a little gem of a place. You dont have to be overly interested in birds to enjoy the walk. Will definitely go back. It will be beautiful, whatever the season

A wonderful way to spend the day
jul. 2020 • Familie
We visited on Tuesday with a 4 and 8 year old. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and so well taken care of. There was a very friendly welcome and we got advice about where to spot red squirrels although we didn't get lucky this time. The walk was great for the kids and they were able to have ice cream and have half an hour in the play area. A very successful morning. Highly recommended.

Car Park charges at Hauxley for members of the Northumberland Wildlife Trust
jan. 2020
Over the last 12 months and when I’ve visited Hauxley as a member of the Northumberland Wildlife Trust, I’m not pleased by the car park charge that members have to pay as well. I’ve checked the other county wildlife and although there is an occasional charge for members of other county wildlife trusts. The majority of the county wildlife trusts don’t charge members in any way. Cley Marshes which is a superb reserve owned by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust with a bigger charge for non-members than at Hauxley, but members get free admission to Cley Marshes. South Walney owned by the Cumbria Wildlife Trust, admission for non-members, but free admission for Cumbria Wildlife Trust members. Enough said!! Now I wait for a reply from management from the Northumberland Wildlife Trust!! I hope!!
