Loved the bay front walk. Tons of restaurants and shops. Highly recommend La Chata’s beef and cheese fondue. Lots of sculptures and a beautiful church.

We love to walk and check out all the history whenever we are lucky enough to be in PV! There is everything from dive bars to fancy places. Restaurants are plentiful, you'll find any type of food you're looking for!

The centre of Puerto Vallarta, often referred to as ‘old town’, it is quaint and full of rich history. Take your time to walk around the cobble stone streets and enjoy the architecture. There are plenty of shops and restaurants.

Has a real vibrancy with a Mexican feeling. Has good grocery shop at Ley’s for most needs. Could use a decent wine shop for the area. Playa Cameron is nice and has a number of musicians especially Sunday night when many Mexican families come to picnic

In dieser Gegend gibt es viel zu sehen und zu erleben. Vor allem Bars, Musik, Kunst. Es finden sich hier aber eher Touri Restaurants, die richtig guten Restaurants findet man eher in der Zona Romántica.

I would recommend walking the downtown area both during the day and at night. Lovely place. Lots of little restaurants, bars and shops. Friendly people.

Thursday 3rd February and we took a taxi from our Hotel, Riu Palace Pacifico, in Nuevo Vallarta, into Puerto Vallarta, a distance of 24 kilometres, about 45 minute drive. We were on a sightseeing and exploring mission.
Our adventure began in the downtown area of the City, known as El Centro it is packed with historical and cultural buildings, interesting and amusing statues & sculptures an amazing promenade. The cobbled streets are lined with shops, markets, bars, restaurants and cafes.
Not sure where the area starts, so we made the assumption that it was by the first Sculpture we encountered, The Millennia Statue. Centro stretches from there down as far the River, Rio Cuale.
We walked along the famous seafront promenade, The Malecón runs alongside Playa Malecón. From here there are views of the beach and across the amazing Bay of Banderas. The beachside of the walkway is populated with numerous sculptures and statues. Some are more easily interpreted and less abstract than others, but all worth a quick stop and a look.
The other side of the walkway is filled with shops, cafés, bars, restaurants and so much more.
We even encountered a lighthouse, Faro de Calle de Matamoros, another oddity along the way.
One of the most exciting elements is the display by the Papantla Fliers, awesome and not to be missed.
Our walk took us to the Plaza De Armas, with its small Bandstand, iconic arches and the Naval Museum nearby.
We did venture off the Malecon and explored some of the streets where we discovered the Municipal Market. We also visited the amazing Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe (Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe) with it's famous tower.
There is so much more to be said, however the best thing is to visit and explore this wonderful vibrant area.

My husband and i will be staying at villa del palmer for a week september 2 to the 9th. We normally go to cancun and have never been to puerto vallarta. we are in our 50's and wanted a little toned down resort town with more culture small shops and small restaurants etc. Can anyone recommend places to go that are a "must see" while in puerto vallarta and things that we should try, excursions, Malls, Boats, restaurants, clubs, attractions. etc.I love going by what people recommend and have tried. I heard that there is a place called private beach that is a total must see natural wonder. Thank you in advance!!

You will be a bit away from downtown, but you can catch a city bus for practically nothing. We always walk the length of the Malecon (boardwalk) every morning. There is so much to see! Fishmongers with their fresh catches, fending off the pelicans, the beautiful Cathedral, marketplace where the river runs into the sea, many shops and great restaurants. The best attraction is "Rhythms of the Night" It boards at the Marina, takes you by boat across the bay, You are led down torch-lined paths to an outdoor buffet of very good food. Then the show begins. PV is a gourmet's delight. Restauranteurs are proud of their cuisine. We never had a bad meal. There are free city tours which can help you get your bearings, but they are stopping at stores that want to sell you something. Have a great time! We love PV.

Does this restaurant still have Mariachi music in the evening?
Skrevet 28. januar 2015
Yeah, agreeing with the others. It is a very nice social area, like a town center with shops , restaurants, a lil museum etc
