...it is a "print" museum; lithographs, block prints, etc. The collection varies. What we saw on our visit we thought was fantastic. Yes, it's a small museum, maybe an hour or so, but, if you're a fan of prints, well worth your time. Although there's little English it really isn't necessary. The exhibits are well displayed, staff friendly and enthusiastic. Recommended.

The Museo Nacional de la Estampa (MUNAE) is a great museum in the Plaza de la Santa Veracruz, next to the Museo Franz Meyer (Franz Meyer Museum), across from the Alameda and the Palacio de Bellas Artes. The museum presents major exhibitions of the graphic art of Mexico, including such important groups as the Taller de Gráfica Popular, and two current exhibitions of over 100 printmakers from Oaxaca, very worth seeing. It's a beautiful space and very worth visiting.

I was going to stop at the Franz Mayer Museum but the Design show did not interest me. However across the plaza, with the circular fountain outside is the National print museum. Now that was an enjoyable visit.

Housed in a small house the selection is very extensive ranging over the latter part of Mexico’s history. As Mexico developed during the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the print medium was one of the central means to get a message out via the visual image. Many of the major artists used this medium including José Guadalupe Posada, the created of the Catrina skeletons. So this element adds to the importance of the arts in Mexico.

The rooms are small but full with prints, books, maps, and every conceivable means of image making. The rooms are divided historically and thematically. The map room was very cool as was a room that had the original plates.

A treasure trove of Mexican history. Very worthwhile.

This is a nice museum even if the area where is situated is not so clean and nice because of the homeless people staying around.

This is a place for detail-oriented people. If you like to just be wowed by every piece at first sight, moving quickly through collections, you're not going to like it. There is a right way to experience this museum, and that is to take the time to read everything that interests you. You can learn a lot about the daily lives of mexicans in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries here.

When I say it is organized in a strange manner, what I mean is that the good stuff is kept upstairs. When you first enter the place, the immediate impression is quite underwhelming, as you will see a few small prints on very esoteric themes, and the tools used for workshops. This first part can be quite entertaining... if you give yourself time to read the prints itselves and the explanations, which come in cards you must pick up and read. The themes are mostly political and comedic, and you would benefit from having a mexican on hand to explain some of the topics.

The second floor contains some very impressive prints, both artistically and historically. To me, the absolute star of the show is a late 19th century foldout map of Mexico City. You should pull out your phone and bring up today's Mexico to compare. If you know the city, even just as a tourist, you will be absolutely amazed at how it has developed in little over a century. If, like me, you are a Mexico City native, it is even more thrilling.
