Peaceful horseback ride through the jungle

This was one of our favourite activities when we were in Mexico. We loved being greeted by the 5 or so dogs at the ranch and the way some followed us on our ride. The tour guide was knowledgeable and shared interesting stories. Our horses were gentle and well-behaved (apart from some snacking). It was peaceful to ride through the jungle. We'd highly recommend doing a trail ride at Rancho Baaxal!

Beloved animals, beautiful surroundings & kind guides!! 10/10!!

My sister and I decided to treat ourselves to a visit with horses whilst in Mexico. We wanted to be very careful to avoid any ranches that abuse, neglect, mistreat or exhaust their horses. We wanted to find a place where the animals came first. Rancho Baaxal was just that. All of the horses were rescued from ranches & riders that overworked or even abused them. The property was littered with rescued, well-loved street pups and horses alike. The holistic approach put me and my sister at ease. The horses were happy, healthy & clearly well loved. Our guides were fantastic. Thimmiah shared his knowledge of the local lore & wildlife was so special. With the horses' consent, we even got to do a little gallop in the forest! I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I'd venture to say it may be the only ranch that is worth visiting as their animals and people are treated with love and respect. Thanks so much Rancho Baaxal.

amazing, fun, and informative ride

SUCH an amazing and fun time. the ride was absolutely beautiful and tim was a pleasure to ride with. he was a great conversationalist and natural guide - i learned a ton of history and got philosophical while riding through the beautiful greenery on a well tempered, cute horse. the dogs were adorable as well. my parents hung out with them while i rode, and enjoyed doling out the scratches. the cherry on top is the obvious love and care the staff has for their horses. it’s clear that everyone’s needs are beyond met. well cared for horses are responsive and easy to ride, and that is obviously the case here. i could rave on and on. this is truly such a great choice to see some lovely wildlife, learn some lovely history, and meet some lovely folk.

Great experience - horse riding through the jungle
Couldn’t recommend this experience enough after spending the morning at the ranch! We got time to know the horses, went out for our 2 hour ride and then were offered drinks and snacks on our return.

There were only 3 of us in our group along with our 2 guides who were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We had lots of opportunities for photos and saw points of interest throughout the jungle along our ride - including dried up cenotes and Mayan ruins! I had never been on a horse before but they were very patient and because of that I settled into it quickly and had a great time! My partner is an experienced rider and so was offered to go off for a canter with one of the guides which she really enjoyed!

The horses are well looked after and all rescues so it’s lovely to see how happy they appear now!

Thank you guys for a great time!

Unbelievable Experience - Second to None!
My family and I had an amazing time with the wonderful staff of Rancho Baaxal! The owner and her staff were extremely friendly, welcoming, engaging, professional, and were passionate about the safety and care of both the guests and the horses. It is so refreshing to see them take such great care for their horses. Their knowledge of the jungle, Mayan history, and ensuring every guest had the most positive experience, was greatly appreciated. Our guide Thimmiah was outstanding. It was as if he was meant for this role! He was amazing with our 9 year old and not only was he a great guide, he was a phenomenal history teacher! We couldn’t have been more impressed or pleased with Lisa and her absolutely amazing team!!! We will be back - We love you guys!!!

Amazing and peaceful experience to get away from the city and crowds. Well loved and cared for animals.
This was probably one of my favorite experiences we had in PDC. I don’t have any riding experience but Tim and Trino (ranch staff) made us feel very comfortable. We loved that the horses were well cared for and looked after. You can tell that the staff here really cares about their animals. I also loved all the sweet dogs lounging around but they joined us on our ride when we got started. My horse was Indio, he was so sweet and playful! He also liked to stop now and then to snack on the plants along the trail (can totally relate!)

This was such a peaceful and relaxing experience. Absolutely loved it. If you want to get away from the noise of PDC and love animals, don’t miss out!!

What a great place that really takes care of the rescue horses. Tim was such a good guide during our ride, and knows everything about the land. You can tell that Tim and the team there really care for the animals and the tours themselves. If I could go back again today, I would in a heartbeat. A can't miss in Playa

Absolutely amazing.

We went to ranch Baaxal a few weeks ago during our holiday in Mexico.
I am a very experienced rider and my friend was a complete beginner.

Our trip was led by Sydney and Timmaiah. It was absolutely amazing. The horses are clearly well looked after and happy and there are rescue dogs living at the ranch as well.
Every person was given the perfect horse and the guides explained everything in great detail for the novices in our group.

During the ride Timmaiah was brilliant and gave us lots of interesting details about the area etc.

Due to me being the only advanced / experienced rider in the group I was taken back out separately to be able to have a canter, which was absolutely lovely and so kind.

I would recommend this to absolutely anyone, it was probably one of the nicest experiences I’ve had on holiday before :)

Enjoy the ride!

Our family of 3 adults had a great time with Thimmah, Sydney, and the wonderful horses. As others have noted, all the horses are rescues. Lisa and her team treat them with love and care. I rode Pantera, who is newer and sometimes skittish. I’m a novice rider and he was gentle and sweet. Yes, the older, retired horse followed along without a rider and one his own, not wanting to miss out on anything. Lisa trains the horses so they don’t need bits to hurt their mouths. The newest horse isn’t ready for riders yet, though shares a corral with another horse, so neither will be lonely.
The trail ride was fun, looking at the local plants, stopping for a short break along the way. Our guides had water, and we were given water to bring with us. Afterwards, we were offered cold drinks (and before we rode, we were offered a light snack). Bathrooms are welcome, too! Two of us had to sign extra liability forms due to our ages; no problems, and no worries on the trails. Rancho Baaxal enforces (well, we didn't see anyone weighed!) their 200-pound rider rule, to assure the horses aren't injured.
Rancho Baaxal is a place where travelers can enjoy a relaxing ride with informed, interesting guides while feeling that they are helping the animals carrying them.

Wild jungle ride

This was such a great experience that I can't recommend it enough.
The horses are really well looked after and the people were informative and really helpful.
The ride through the jungle was a great way to experience the wilder, untamed side of the riviera maya , we even stopped off at a recently discovered mayan site.
Thanks to Lisa and the team who helped is make some long lasting memories.
