Definitely a very unique beach, as the Mayans ruins overlook the entire beach. It wasn't possible to go on it though due to the newest covid restrictions.

Thanks to its fantastic position Tulum archeological site is one of the most visited and photographed ones. For more info on how to visit it, please read my detailed review about it.
As I mentioned in that review, I carried my backpack with swimwear and towels all the way in that heat in order to swim beneath - on the Mayan beach.
Unfortunately it is NOT possible - the stairway to the beach is CLOSED due to Covid until further notice. You can only admire it from the cliff above.

You can reach this small, beautiful, white sand beach via a staircase from the Tulum archeological ruins. The stairs are located as you traverse the path to approach the Castillo along the cliffs overlooking the water. The beach appeared quite busy the day we were there. There is no fee for the beach as it is a public domaine and your entrance fee for the ruins allows beach entry via the stairwell but be sure to bring towels etc. if you plan to go down to the water.

Pláž v okolí byla neméně krásná a čistá 😍🏝

We visited the Ruins but the stairs down to this beach was closed due to COVID. We wanted to let other visitors know that you can still access the public beach. When you exit the Ruins, go left down the path. You’ll reach a public beach access, where all the taxi drivers are hanging out and entrance to the Santa Fe Beach Club. Enter the path and when you get to the open beach, go to the left. It’s an awesome beach for adults!
There’s plenty of space, you can see the Ruins in the distance, and the most clear water, beautiful stretch of beach. You’ll find chill European sun bathers and beach goers. It’s such a relaxing time! We loved it here!

My husband and I walked along this beach and enjoyed the views of the towers from the shore. The ruins are closed due to the pandemic but hoping one day when life is 'normal' we will return to visit the ruins.

The wind was blasting off the ocean when we were here and the water was full of Sargassum Weed. We went down on the beach under the ruins. It was fine, crowded and beautiful. I would pick another beach for a day, but you can take a quick dip here.
Is the beach public to everyone?

I will be in tulum for 7 days this summer and was wondering if renting a car is a good idea there?

I haven't had any experience with renting a car there, but from my personal experience, if you're staying close enough to food and what not, I would stick with taking a taxi or bus. If taking a taxi, I'd ask for a trip estimate before getting in, just to avoid getting charged extra. Have fun!!

Suerte!

What beaches in Tulum are public? We want to be able to bring in a cooler with our own food and drinks.

Yes, the beaches are public. You don't have to climb down the steep stairs at the peak of the Tulum ruins though. In the parking lot area, on the right side is the path to the Cenote. Walk down the sand path [as if you are going to the Cenote] and there will be a few open areas to walk out onto the beach - no steep climb. Plus, there are a lot LESS people in this area of the beach

Hello, I am going to Riviera Maya for my summer vacation. I really want to go to Tulum but am wondering if in order to get to the beach do you have to do a tour. Or can you just go to the beach and still get a view of the pyramid?

That's a really good question actually. I think Martin A is right. But let me warrant you...if you go to Mayan Beach, it has to be experienced from the descent, otherwise, what would be the point in going to Mayan Beach? The beach itself is consistently pristine along the beach coast, and going to Mayan Beach just to go the beach is nothing different from any segments of the beach along the coast. The Mayan Beach experience is experiencing the descent from the pyramids and ruins, and experiencing what they were feeling/seeing centuries ago. That's what makes it nirvana...not the beach itself. I don't know how much of that entry fee they use to help maintain the sites, but in my head, I am paying to preserve the historical site. I hope this helps! :)

My wife and I are planning to spend ten nights in Tulum and will be going to the beach every day.
We will be there in Mid March and are worried about the seaweed on the beaches.
Do you have any travelers that have been there over the past few weeks that can give us some info?
Thank you, Barry & Nanette Kraham, owners of Casa Tzampoc in Guatemala

There was accumulated seaweed at a few beaches, but in general very little was around.. They do a great job of keeping the beaches beautiful and weed free!
