Way better than I expected! Easy hike , rewarded w spectacular views. You can definitely go as a family- lots kids maybe 8-10 and up. Plenty of time to soak in the views at the top. The guide is quirky, passionate and lays out the rules clearly at the beginning.
No advantage getting there early. 15-20$ 30 min Uber from nobu. Rec los claros for lunch at the marina- delicious ! Go on this hike!

Took the hike today! It was definitely more challenging than I expected from all of the reviews that I have read. It’s very steep for novice climbers once you pass the flat rock on the way up. Once you get to the top the views are amazing and then you get to spend some time with the dogs. If you are a slow climber or near the end (our group was close to 100 people) you can’t hear Enrique and he is AMAZING! Once we started to head down my legs were jelly and I admittedly had to do some of it on my butt. I am so glad I did it but I don’t think I am cut out for doing it again. I order to be truthful in this review my husband was bit (fairly superficially) by one of the dogs when we were standing waiting to get into the dog daycare. We did not tell anyone because we knew that it was at our own risk. I would recommend this to anyone that feels that they can climb moderate rocks. I would not have felt comfortable bringing my 77 year old father.

This is a guided hike with Enrique, who is also a dog trainer and has his kennel at the base of Mt Solmar. We arrived at his gate prior to 8am & shortly after he unlocks the gate to let the hikers in. (maybe 75 of us) He educates you about the area prior to starting. The dogs accompany you on the hike. The final 1/3 of the ascent is difficult. (uses your hands to grip rocks & pull yourself up) The first 1/3 of the descent can be difficult as well and you'll use your quadriceps for sure. Wear sturdy shoes, maybe a light pack for water, wear sunscreen and tip Enrique when you're all done. (about 2 hours total)

Came to do the hike on Sat 17-Feb-2024 for the 4:30 hike but it is no longer being held by Enrique. Will try again tomorrow.👍

I was not prepared for the strenuous and difficult climb up and down the mountain. There were over 100 people in our group following one guide single file up the side of the mountain. I had to stop half way up to catch my breath. Be sure to pack water and wear good hiking shoes…both of which I didn’t have! The view from the top is amazing… very thankful we didn’t get hurt and ruin our vacation. I will not do this climb again…one and done! Enjoy but be careful!

What an amazing experience! I recommend highly! We were there in September during some of the hottest weather of the year! That made the hike a good deal more challenging but still very much worth the trouble! This hike is guided by Enrique who runs a dog rescue facility on the property. He will give you a great amount of history about the property before you begin. Then he will release a large number of dogs which will all be hiking up the mountain with you! How much fun is that?? Part way up the climb becomes pretty challenging! Be prepared to climb some pretty steep rock faces using your hands, legs, and feet! The views from the top are both beautiful and amazing!! off one side you can see the Pacific ocean and coastline, and off the opposite side you will see the Sea of Cortez and downtown Cabo San Lucas as well as the Marina! There is NO fee for this activity! It is free! At the end, you will have the opportunity to drop some money on a box to both tip Enrique and help him fund his dog rescue efforts! We tipped generously!! (Not recommended for people who are not in good physical shape!!)

The “hike” is much more difficult than is described on-line. It involves significant rock climbing that was even challenging for my very athletic nieces and nephews. Thus, there are people there of much varied experience.

More disturbing is the danger associated with the circumstances.

Combine the above with it being open to the public (we estimated that 300 people showed up our morning) in addition to 15 or so dogs making their way up with only one person at the front and the back - it is a disaster waiting to happen. As a trauma surgeon, I am shocked that someone has not been seriously hurt or killed (at least that we know of).

I love my rescue dog and admire Enrique’s intent but this is extremely unsafe.

Hiking with the local rescue dogs, what fun.

As best I can tell this is an unsanctioned hike to raise money for the local dog rescue facility. There is no fee for the hike, but the guide requests a tip at the end of hike. I think the money is used to support the dog rescue facility. Great.

i was surprised that there were so many people on the hike, I would guess more than 150. Throw in another 30 dogs or so and the trail was pretty chaotic.

The hike is challenging, not because of the distance (approximately 5 K) or elevation gain, (approximately 150m) but because of the very rocky terrain and the number of people and dogs on the trail.

But, its well worth the effort. The views from the top are magnifico!

A tip from our experience: there does not seem to be a limit to the number allowed on a tour, so don't worry about getting there early. The tour guide/shelter operator starts his spiel at 8AM but he was still talking at 8:30 and allowing late comers to join the group. We were there at 7:45 and just stood around for 45 minutes.

I love a good hike with amazing views and I love dogs, so hiking with Enrique was everything! Enrique’s speech was nice-I’ll admit I was distracted by all of the excited dogs running around, but the message was received and I think about it from time to time.
The hike gets strenuous at a certain point, so I would not suggest it for anyone that is unable to grab rocks and pull themselves up from time to time.
I 100% suggest it for the solo lady hikers out there! I felt safe the entire time, so don’t be afraid to show up alone and join the group! It’s worth it!

This was our absolute favorite thing to do in Los Cabos. We love hiking to begin with, but the views on this one are so breathtaking that it even replaces Lk. Louise & Banff as my world favorites. There are many good reviews and pictures already here but I have some things to add.
We arrived a little before 8 a.m. but had to wait about 15 minutes until Enrique (more about him later) welcomed the crowd inside the gates. So don't overly stress out about being punctual like I was (which annoyed my companions). On the other hand don't be too late either because a man showed up at 8:30 and Enrique turned him away. because he was late.
Then Enrique talks at length about the history of the area, magnetic fields and their influences on things, the importance of being present in the moment as there is nothing real except now. Then he yells, "Vamanos, perros!" which is the cue to begin the hike. ( I don't know why, but I found this last bit very charming.) Some reviewers have said he does the hike to get donations for the dogs, but I don't think so. This is a dog training & boarding facility, not a shelter. I think Enrique leads the hikes because he is going to give the dogs the exercise anyway, he likes tips (who doesn't?), and he strikes me as an extroverted, gregarious, entertaining person, who enjoys performing. So his allowing the public to hike with him & dogs is a win-win. It's a side hustle, and I say good for him for being enterprising.
The hike will be much more enjoyable for you if you are reasonably fit, not afraid of heights, and very sure-footed on rocks. It is dangerous at the top, where one wrong move will send you off a cliff, but that is where the payoff is. The dogs are very used to people. They are also fast and very well in tune with Enrique's calls to them. If I lived here, I would do this hike every single day.
