We visited Boszhira in mid-September on the third and fourth days of our 5-day Mangistau tour.
Due to nearly 2 hours of light to moderate rain on day 2, the visit to Karynzharyk Depression did not take place. Instead, we would visit Boszhira for two days instead of one.
We drove from Shetpe on asphalt roads to Mosque Shopan-Ata (43.595173, 54.079781) in 4 hours. To the south, there was a viewpoint on Oglandy Valley (43.544529, 54.08997). A bit further back (43.497131, 54.04924), we left the asphalt road towards Boszhira.
After 5km on a dirt road, we visited the first viewpoint (43.458332, 54.072372). The view was overwhelming! About 11km and 25 minutes further, the viewpoint (43.408016, 54.101871) was possibly even more beautiful.
After this, we drove counterclockwise back. After a descent with another beautiful view (43.461563, 53.99117), we drove south and then east. Here (43.419193, 54.038143), we had a view of the deepest part, the actual Boszhira, with Azu Tisteri in the distance.
The tent was set up a bit further north at the foot of Mount Shoky Tau, 43.43729, 54.047585, a beautiful spot. Shortly after sunset, we saw a Golden Jackal here.
The next day, we first drove to the Shatkal or Boszhira Canyon (43.432468, 54.07378). Again, a great view.
Then we drove back and attempted to drive into the real Boszhira Valley, where we only reached 43.388149, 53.980751 due to the muddy road, 9km from Azu Tisteri.
During our visit we saw 2 other cars. Note that a guide is really recommended.
We drove back to the asphalt road and visited the colorful Kyzylkup Tract, also called Tiramisu (43.483486, 53.821545 and 43.475228, 53.8109) west of Boszhira, where the tent was set up again. On the last day, we drove back to Aktau, where we arrived at 1 PM.
Actually, Mangistau is not suitable for tourism. In the summer, it is too hot (no shade!), and in the winter, it is too cold. In between, even a bit of rain can spoil the visit. Even with just 2 hours of moderate rain, the roads can become impassable for days.

E’ la più spettacolare valle del Mangystau. E’ caratterizzata da splendide formazioni rocciose che si presentano come guglie che assomigliano a “denti” per la loro forma (simile ad un cono) e perché sembra che emergano dal terreno e circondate da sabbia e ghiaino frutto dell’erosione. Nei tour si visitano due di queste realtà che sono le più rappresentative. Entrambe sono raggiungibili con i fuoristrada, ma dal basso non si apprezza la loro bellezza e maestosità. Per fortuna sono presenti degli altopiani nelle vicinanze di entrambi, punti di osservazione spettacolari che lasciano stupito il turista.

Это, наверно, самое запоминающееся и поражающее место в Мангистау. Именно оно изображено на купюре в 1000 тенге. Мы посещали его самостоятельно на своем автомобиле в июне,благо в этом году он выдался прохладный. Есть несколько панорамных точек на урочище с разных краев чинка. А также можно спуститься вниз к «Клыкам», к горе «Юрта» и другим объектам. Необходим внедорожник. Весной вас подстерегает липкая вязкая глина, летом «подушка» мягкой пушистой пыли. Лучшие месяцы для посещения: апрель-май, сентябрь-октябрь. Путешествие лучше планировать на несколько дней, минимум на два. Мы подъезжали со стороны г.Жанаозень , посмотрев по пути мечети Шопан-Ата и Бекет-Ата. Не забудьте заправить полный бак и взять достаточное количество пресной воды. Одна из лучших смотровых находится немного не доезжая по грейдеру до Бекет-Аты. Поворот направо отмечен небольшим плакатом с Босжирой. Для того чтобы спуститься к "Клыкам", необходимо вернуться обратно по грейдеру в сторону г.Жанаозень еще 1-2 км. После спуска нужно держаться линии электропередач около 2-3 км. Затем свернуть налево. Ориентир QR код.
Если хотите посмотреть гору «Юрта», то сразу после спуска нужно уйти налево. Далее дорога тупиковая и проезда по ней к «Клыкам» нет.
Возле «Клыков» необходимо заночевать, чтобы полюбоваться закатом и рассветом, последить за местными жителями – песчанкой и лисой, подняться на гору выше «Клыков». Прямо напротив «Клыков» есть приподнятая ровная площадка, отличное место для разбивки лагеря.
Пожалуйста заберите весь мусор с собой. Мы путешествуя по достопримечательностям Казахстана, поставили себе задачу, забирать с каждой из них по 2-3 бутылки чужого мусора. Что успешно выполнили ).
Если хотите посмотреть гору «Юрта», то сразу после спуска нужно уйти налево. Далее дорога тупиковая и проезда по ней к «Клыкам» нет.
Возле «Клыков» необходимо заночевать, чтобы полюбоваться закатом и рассветом, последить за местными жителями – песчанкой и лисой, подняться на гору выше «Клыков». Прямо напротив «Клыков» есть приподнятая ровная площадка, отличное место для разбивки лагеря.

To visit Bozzhira Canyon it is convenient to spend the night in Janaozen (also known as Zhanaozen), an important regional town in which the primary activity is related to oil and gas industry. Due to this activity in this town there are hotels of good standard mostly used by businessmen and people working in the oil industry.
It is necessary a 4x4 SUV of good performance to visit this canyon even if the first part of the unpaved road is regularly used by normal car going to the very popular Beket-Ata mountain mosque.
On the way we stopped to Shopan-Ata mosque. Originally the final resting place of Shopan-Ata, this is now an ancient small underground mosque at the end of a large necropolis dating back probably to the 10th century. At the entrance of the necropolis it is necessary to ask permission to enter, then walking along a concrete path, it is possible to arrive to the small underground carpeted mosque (from the outside only a small door can be seen).
Proceeding towards Beket-Ata, a few kilometres after Senek, on the right there is a track to the canyon. There is no sign and after a few hundred meters the track becomes narrow and one must proceed carefully because it is dug on the side of a wall of friable rock. Our first tentative to reach the canyon ended here because that was the third day of heavy raining and our SUV was not controllable and sliding over the wet mud toward the precipice.
After three days of good weather we made a new tentative. Proceeding carefully we reached the canyon. In front of the entrance of the Bozzhira Canyon there is a very large flat area where all the water of the various wadi forms a shallow short-lived pool.
When we reached the area everything was already dry and just a discontinuous layer of salt and flat rocks was visible. Even if we were travelling alone, because phone is not working (this was quite normal in all our trip in Western Kazakhstan) and normally no one is around (outside the main road we have never met other cars) we suggest, if possible, to move around using two vehicles.
At the entrance of the canyon there are two very high rocks of some hundred of meters of incredible beauty. The color of these twin rocks offers a perfect contrast with the background of the blue sky. The rocks of the canyon walls are characterized by horizontal layers of different colors such as white, pink and brown.
We have seen no animals in all the area other than two Turkmen gazelle (Gazella subgutturosa gracilicornis) and one steppe eagle (Aquila nipalensis).
In the evening we were back to Janaozen. The program to spend the night in tent in the canyon was not realized because the heavy rain of the previous days had forced us to change our travel schedule, but we believe it is an experience to be done. In fact this visit can be realized in one or two days from Janaozen.
