Jousting event was very good, entertainment for all ages all day. Either ear there or bring your own items in.

The castle is lovely but it will take you half an hour to look around and there’s not much else there. The grounds have been manicured to death and look unfinished, and the facilities are pretty poor. The toilets were shabby and unclean and the cafe is very basic (hot drinks are from a machine and are awful!). Unless there is an event on then I wouldn’t bother

Had our wedding in the castle. Excellent organization and a seamless day. The venue is stunning and the staff were superb in their running of our ceremony.

We spent a lovely few hours wandering around the castle and grounds ,we used our gardeners world 2:4:1 vouchers so cost £10 . We arrived just in time for the guided tour of the castle our guide was excellent and very informative and gave a great account of the castles history. We didn’t use the cafe but chose to walk into the village 5 mins walk and have lunch in the tea room on the corner .

We went along to a jousting tournament and had the most amazing time. The jousting itself was great fun and we were able to try archery, axe throwing and watch a birds of prey show. The setting itself is stunning and everything about it was fabulous.
The lunch we had between us was pretty varied (Asian, burgers etc - all excellent).
Everyone was buzzing by the time we got home.

Me and my family went to a jousting event that was here and the whole day was absoloutely brilliant!! Brilliant food stalls, lots of activities and lots of things to see. The castle was amazing, but if you are travelling with elderly who aren't very good on their feet, the castle might not be the best idea because there are ALOT of stairs and they are very steep!!
The food was amazing, there was a burger van, noodle bar, a cafe and a jerk chicken place. The food was superb. The only thing I would recommend is that there was a lot of things for young boys, such as; the jousting, knight fighting and falconry but maybe as another idea for an activity, there could be ladies dressed up as Victorian queens walking around etc or maybe a lady with different coloured ribbons so that all children (doesn't matter which gender) could take part in ribbon dancing etc.
Also, there isn't a-lot of places for elderly to sit down. So maybe a few more benches.
But all in all the day was absoloutely amazing and we will definitely be coming back when another event is being held.

Went to see open air Elvis film, nice local venue for us. Parking was good, but a bit chaotic in spacing and then trying to leave! Nice setup though, drinks, food, bogs and huge screen etc. would imagine other open air events would be good.

Clean, comfortable and welcoming. Great value for the standard of stay , breakfast was amazing. My husband two sons and me stayed here as we had a wedding at the castle to attend, it’s just a short stroll away to the venue. Would definitely recommend 10/10

You would be FLOORED by how bad the escape room was. It was red flags in escape room form 🙄🙄🙄 I'm a Game Master myself, and I was spotting flaws everywhere. No team name, disclaimers (dont force anything, etc etc), or team photo. One converted storage room with objects that weren't part of the escape room, none of the padlocks worked, none of the clues made sense or had anything to do with each other, construction workers in the same room building some bnb thing, decorations had nothing to do with the room, red herrings like having letters coloured in on flags but there being no lock for it, and one of the puzzles were in a different language (latin) that you were just supposed to know 😂😂 one of my players spent the entire hour on it 😂😂 clues were badly worded or straight up wrong, the GM legit didn't care, just... my god. Itd be fine if it was free but good lord, we paid 75 quid to be frustrated for an hour 🙄😂 please don't make the same mistake we did. Castle itself is fine. Barely 10 minutes worth of stuff in there, but fine.

Overpriced and very disappointing.
Attended the May Fair Festival on 2nd May. Was advised on arrival the medieval village had been wiped out by Covid, not sure what this would have comprised or if it would have made the day more worth it?!
Cost £50 for family entry, took 30 mins to walk round, massive queues for everything. Limited food options especially if you have dietary requirements even vegetarian and food ran out at 1.15pm!!
Won’t return in a hurry!

I caught a return bus from Victoria Coach station and arranged a taxi to pick us up at Chelmsford. We stayed in Halstead which is nearby. There are other bus + train routes but it suited us this way. Check out bus times etc I'm sure you'll find a way.

You should be fine in the grounds but inside the castle you would have to carry baby. There are steps and classic turret stairways. Typical castle! Check the website before travelling as it's often closed for weddings. Best to go when they have a jousting weekend which is the end of May.

You must have read my review so you know I was not very impressed with heddingham castle but the information you require is to be found on their Webb site which you will find via goggle hope this helps
