Spent a couple of hours exploring the church grounds, meusem and street shops including some street food.
We had a driver arranged by our hotel and was given 2 hours to see what we wanted to. This is the first time I've visited a holy monument let a lone a world heritage site.
Quite and calm and one feels the presence of the Holy spirit.
The old site where St. Francis lies is beautiful, well kept and you have the opportunity to walk through the church. Be warned you are harassed by "Government Tourism Officials" who show ID and are REALLY very pushy and in your face and not shy to argue. The charge was 300 INR. We refused and had to be aggressive towards them. In my opinion a scam and sad that people make money off of such a site.
We were only allowed to walk on a narrow isle due to maintenance being done. We were able to see the casket of St. Francis as well as partial view of the body high up on the alter. He will be moved out for public viewing on the 21 November 2024 for 45 days. This happens every 10 years.
No cameras allowed and you need to be careful or smart if u need to take a pic.
Toilets are on site, super clean, well maintained and in working order.
We bought candles and flower wreaths in total 50 INR. The sellers are just as pushy and are not allowed on site. Just as aggressive as the "Officials"
You are told by the vendors their are matches by the alter... Hmm we found out the hard way... No matches and nobody sells or smokes on the site.
Had to leave the grounds and look for a shop that sells.. Found one. So take a wind proof lighter. We lit up all the unburned candles as a sign of respect. Small fire but it helped others light their candles.
There is a gentleman who walks around with a camera to take really cool pics and will print them out for you... 60 INR... He will also use your phone if you ask nice.
Overall this day was super special

At this point it's a museum. Surprisingly bare on the inside. The outside is nice but the church has been hollowed out. Some interesting bits are left, but not much.

Located next to the Old Goa Cathedral, the Church of San Francisco of Assisi is a jewel of Portuguese Colonialism

The Catholic Church of Francis of Assisi is one of the examples of the majestic colonial architecture left over from the Portuguese rule in Goa. The temple is located near Panaji, in Old Goa, and is one of the must-see places. Today, the Church of St. Francis of Assisi is open to all comers and is more of an architectural monument with a museum exposition than a place of worship. The Church of St. Francis is no longer active, services and ceremonies are not held in it. Today it functions as a museum.

This is located just in front of 'Basilica of Bom Jesus'. Cars are not allowed inside and you mark nearby outside. There is no entry free for outside premises but Rs. 20 for inside tour.
Good location for snaps.

Nice place . Well maintained.
Feeling enlightened .
The light show is very good ( at times may feel a bit longer ). Good for people interested in History . Managing with Young kids may get a little difficult as nothing much for them to understand and enjoy.

This Church has an amazing architecture ... was under renovation/ refurbishment when we visited, very high ceiling ... see the pictures attached. This majestic Church was built by the Portuguese in 1661, and is located right opposite the Basilica Bom Jesus in Old Goa, is surrounded by beautiful greens. No Entry ticket ...

Church of St. Francis of Assissi

No, it isn't, it's a separate church. But it's next door to the Basilica of Bom Jesus.
