Excellent visitor center with great location and great service: only difficulty was the incredibly long lines. Not sure whether it would be possible to add more staff given the size of the facility, which is a terrific historic building in town.

Great info center, centrally located in beautiful building. The information material was satisfactory, to our questions about short and easy hiking trails there were only unsatisfactory answers. Possibly the clean sanitary facilities in the basement.

The Banff Information Center is outstanding. I reached out months ago about reservations for the park and they went above and beyond, helping me find the perfect location and guiding me through the reservation system. I can't say enough about their responsiveness and helpfulness. Thank you!!

The information was very helpful, however everyone should be told when arriving how difficult it is to get into Lake Louise. We could have reserved a shuttle ticket for the following day but we had no idea how small the parking lot is and how fast the shuttle fills up. We did manage to get in at 5:00 pm just to take a few pictures.

There may have been another way in, but I did have a big scramble up the stairs to enter through the front door. There were long lines inside, but eventually I got to the desk and asked my questions. They had maps, brochures and the answers to questions.

You can purchase Roam bus tickets here or get information on other things to see and do around Banff. Note: for bus tickets, I’d recommend buying them at the bus stop near the high school, as then you can see if there is too long a line to bother buying a ticket for a particular time, or not. There are restrooms downstairs from the Visitor Center.

Very helpful and knowledgable staff. We were given free maps and wealth of information about transport and where was best to hire bikes. We were told about different hiking routes and the staff member we spoke to gave us lots of person recommendations. Definitely visit here when you arrive in Banff to help you.

The staff are very helpful if you know exactly what to ask. Be specific as they can really help but a vague what can we do in 2 days etc drives them crazy!

We visited this visitor center while we were visiting the Banff Canada area this week. We decided to stop by this facility, so that we could ensure that we saw all the attractions for the local area. The staff was very professional and friendly. The facility was very clean and well maintained to the highest standard of cleanness. The location was right downtown and they have parking as well on site. Our overall experience with this visitor center was great, and definitely made a vacation memorable and wonderful.

Hi,
Is there enough parking room for everyone when coming to banff visitor center? Also should we expect long waiting time/ lineup prior being able to talk with your staff for information ? We are planning to come around august 14th 2023 early afternoon...
Thank you,

There is plenty of free all-day parking at the Banff Train Station, then it is a 8-minute walk into the heart of Banff Town. There is also a limited amount of pay parking around the surrounding areas of the Visitor Centre.
Early afternoon is a great time to come see us! We look forward to welcoming you to Banff National Park very soon.

Hi,
I will be in the canadian rockies in August, visiting banff, yoho, jasper, kootaney, glacier kannanakis. Wondering if I can get maps ( attraction, hiking etc) for all those area at the banff visitor center or if I will have to stop at each individual park to ask for their specific are map?
Skrevet 4. juli 2023
The Banff visitor centre has it all, including the Rockies Park pass you need to travel through the park...think that's about $10 per person
Skrevet 4. juli 2023
We're just travellers, but we know that although you can buy NP licenses at the Visitor Centres, you can also purchase them at local outfitters and tackle shops.

Hi,
Can anyone advice how the carpark at Moraine Lake has been the last few days, including Sunday. We aim to get there around 5.30am or earlier.
Also sorry Julie D - I clicked on the wrong arrow and accidentally choose unhelpful. I thought it was giving me a drop down list. Sorry - your response was helpful.
Thanks
Kathy

Hello Kathy!
This is Sophie from the Banff Visitor Centre. Since it is a great time for Larch Hikes, the Parking Lot at Moraine Lake has been filling up quickly, around 5:30am. If you plan to arrive at this time, you should be okay to get a parking spot. Another option would be to take the direct Roam bus from downtown Banff to Moraine Lake. This bus runs regularly throughout the day.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions and enjoy your time at the lake!
Kind regards,
Sophie

Hi We will be in Banff - arriving late afternoon 28 Sep and heading to Jasper on 3 October. I am still a bit confused about the best way to get to Moraine Lake.
We are staying at the Tunnel Mountain Resort in Banff.
Subject to the weather, we will either aim to see Moraine Lake area (plus do foreshore hike, Rockpile hike and Larch Valley) on Sunday 29 September or Tuesday 1 Oct.
If we aim to leave Tunnel Mountain by 4.30am should we get to the Moraine Lake carpark by close to 6am? Would this be early enough to get a park?
We will then do the hikes I mentioned above and then drive to Lake Louise. After doing the hikes, would we get a park in Lake Louise or where would we park? Or are we best to leave Lake Louise?
On another day we plan to visit Lake Louise and do the Plain of Six Glaciers, go past the Beehives and also do Lake Agnes Tea house so we could see Lake Louise on this day too.
If we did Moraine Lake and area in the morning, and left LL for another day, what would be a good thing to do in the afternoon? I am thinking maybe the Minnewanka Loop or hike up Tunnel Mountain. Other option would be the gondola.
One more question please - am I correct that there is a gondola in Banff, and another in LL?
Many thanks for your time.
Kathy

We were only in Banff for four days and your itinerary appears to be longer and more ambitious with most of our transportation being by hire car (very easy). I can only wish you luck as I have no further information to help in your plans.

Hi we are visiting the Banff area next month (July). We are paying all major expenses such as hotels and tours with a credit card. Should we bring canadian money for smaller things, like tips etc or is it not necessary. Thank you.
Skrevet 26. juni 2019
In our experience it's always better to bring some Canadian cash- we brought a few hundred for those purchases where we can't use a credit card. Your bank can get it for you in advance at a good rate. Most places I believe take American dollars but the exchange rate may vary, etc. Plus Canadian money is nicer looking that our dollars!

Planning a family trip from Vancouver-Banf-Calgary in Oct 5-8. What are the road conditions for a not so experienced snow driver? Would you recommend a car rental?
Skrevet 10. juni 2019
Hi there! This is Sophie from the Banff Visitor Centre.
The road conditions are generally clear in early October, though because we are in the Rockies, there have been instances where it snowed in early October. You would be fine to get a rental car, but may want to consider renting a vehicle with winter tires or that has 4 wheel drive. If we do get a heavy amount of snow at the time, you could take public transit while in Banff or wait until the weather clears to continue your family trip through the Rockies.

Hi,
I’m from England and looking to come to Banff next October (end of October) with my son. My plan to is get a shuttle from Calgary airport to Banff and then spend 7 nights in Banff. I wonder if anyone can advise me in terms of getting around at that time of year. I understand from various websites that Roam Transit and Hoponbanff shuttle buses run up until end of September/beginning of October but I can’t seem to find what options there are for the end of the month. I can find some day tours to see Peyto Lake and the Skywalk etc but I’d also like to see Johnston’s Canyon, Lake Louise, Lake Moraine, and Banff Gondola etc.
Any advice on public transport options for these? Or is my best option at that time of year to hire a car? I’d be open to doing this, however my only worry are the driving conditions with snow starting to fall as I’m on my own with a child.
Any help you can give me would be hugely appreciated!
Thank you so much 😊
Zoe
Skrevet 30. oktober 2018
Hi Zoe, this is Adriana from the Banff Visitor Centre.
There are still various transportation options available at the end of October.
Airport transfers from Calgary (YYC) to Banff are offered by Banff Airporter and Brewster Express.
Public transportation is operated by Roam transit and can connect you to attractions like the Banff Gondola, Banff Upper Hot Springs, and Lake Louise.
Sightseeing tours to Peyto Lake and along the Icefields Parkway typically end mid-October due to weather conditions as you noted. Banff and Lake Louise sightseeing tours are still offered by Discover Banff Tours.
It is possible there will be snow at this time of year, so hiring a car is not advised if you do not have winter driving experience. If you find the weather is clear at the time of your visit, you can arrange to rent one while you are in Banff from Budget, Avis, or Enterprise.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi there. I am visiting Banff for a week from May 25th. Is it best to book all tickets for Tours/Gondolas etc well in advance? Or will there be good availability nearer the time when I might have more of an idea what the weather will be like?
Skrevet 7. april 2018
Hello, this is Connie at the Lake Louise Visitor Information Centre.
In 2018 the Victoria Day holiday is on Monday, May 21, therefore that week may be busy with visitors extending their weekend time off. However, understandably it's best to have a good weather day for sightseeing tours such as the Banff Gondola. Tickets can be purchased either in advance, the morning of, or on site. If booked in advance, it's non-refundable however the date and time can be changed (except not for a date prior to the original reservation date), as the ticket will be valid for the while season.
Hope you have clear sky days for your visit!
