Poles and clamps for your footwear would be helpful but we managed with runners and hiking boots. The creek is frozen with some open patches of slow-running water: just gorgeous ice crystals along the edges of the open water spots! We enjoyed walking on the creek for an unique view that is normally inaccessible to foot traffic.

Park has washroom, parks for kids, tennis courts and multiple paths for bikers and walkers/runners. Views are breathtaking. I'm always at peace along the water.

Huge park, beautiful views and an excellent escape from city life - right within the city! Given its sheer area, the landscape within the park is varied and can go from rugged and hilly, to flat and bare.
Summer is a fantastic time to visit. The trail system within is very extensive, and it is particularly great for biking, jogging, or simply walking around. It is not uncommon to encounter wildlife, particularly deer, though other animals roam around. When you come to Fish Creek park, be aware that you're entering a natural reserve so please respect the wildlife.

Fish Creek Park has become little more than an overused freeway for fast motorized bikes and for spandex-clad boy racers and has been despoiled by pathway paving and overuse.
Why yesterday, I saw a man on a three-wheeled electric scooter on the paved path.
These people racing through the park are not there to enjoy Nature or the tranquility of a natural area.
Then there are the organized family groups that saunter slowly on the main paths, three and four abreast, without any consideration for all other pathway users.
Finally, don't get me started on dog owners. While many are responsible, far too many don't pick up after their animals, or leave the bag for someone else to pick up, or have their animals unleashed, or have the animals on a far too long leash - often unsafely stretching across the pathsways.
As far as park wardens on patrol - it is a provincial park - they are hardly ever seen anymore.
I have been using Fish Creek Park for thirty years and for well over a thousand times on foot and by bicycle.
It has lost most of its charm.

This is a beautiful place to visit. The creek is wonderful and there is Sikomi park which is the best place to take kids to swim in Calgary. Warm waters and clean and beach like sand! We love visiting there

When COVID protocols were in place and indoor dining was not allowed, my friend and I would meet, bring a coffee or buy one at Annie's in the Park, sit with our chairs, social-distance and enjoy the beautiful setting and outdoors.

So many access points, so many types of trails, so many beautiful spots to see, so many ways of using this park, walk, bike, skateboard, etc etc. Calgary is SO lucky to have this treasure inside its limits! If you want the comfort of crowds there are places to go. If you want solitude, there are places to go. DO NOT miss this place if you are new to Calgary or visiting!

I would like to know where do you park to have easy access to the river as I am new in canada and Calgary?
Skrevet 9. september 2020
If you were asking based on my review, the western edge has a couple of entrances, but look up the Shannon Terrace Day Use area and/or Google Map directions from where you are to the Shannon Terrace Day use Area. From the parking lot you have a nice walk to paths along the Fish Creek River, which is quite low now but very nice still. Or look up Bebo Grove entry or Votier's Flats. All will bring you eventually to parts of Fish Creek River. If it's the Bow River you want, then look on Google Maps and use the Directions functions to find your way to the various entries. For example, Mallard Point, off Canyon MEadows Drive. Get on Canyon Meadows Drive from Anderson, for example, drive east and it'll take you into thepark. Hope that helps.

We are coming to Calgary in the month of June. Is this trip advisable for a child 9 yrs of age? ( he will be accompanied by his parents).

Is the park within walking distance of the Fish Creek LRT station?
Skrevet 16. januar 2018
Yes. Depending on where you are coming from in the City of Calgary, light rail 201 or bus #3 goes there. The park remember is huge so there are probably more than one stop.

I have some limitations throughout time ,so i have choose between calgary zoo or fish creek, which one do you prefer?
Skrevet 19. juli 2017
I would choose Fish Creek Park, but I am opposed to animals in cages, so I am biased. I much prefer walking around a natural park, enjoying the scenery, stopping to sit on a bench and maybe having a bite to eat from the cafe, or a picnic lunch. I hope this is helpful.

Great park but not North America's largest. Edmonton's River Valley Park is 18 000 acres and growing.
Skrevet 29. november 2016
You are right, Edmonton's park is larger, Fish Creek comes in at the 5th largest Urban park in Canada. It is a lot smaller than Edmonton's.
The Edmonton Park is the 4th largest urban park in North America. The first being the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, followed by Franklin Mountains State Park, then the Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge.
To see the full list of world wide largest urban parks you can see them on the "List of urban parks by size - Wikipedia"

Where is the best point of entry for exploring the park with a four year old and a one year old? My four year old isn't a strong walker ie. Not much stamina to walk long. Are there any playgrounds here?

Why does publicly funded facility engage in unlawfully detaining citizens to engage in arbitrary searches or persons and private property upon entrance? The Charter of Rights and Freedoms protects citizens on public property from such acts yet we have a provincial facility engaging in constitutional torts against citizens. How is this practice allowed to continue?
Skrevet 13. august 2015
This isn't a question. It's a STATEMENT in disguise. If you have nothing to HIDE, you hide nothing. Blame implies intent. If a facility in Canada attempts to engage in arbitrary searches at any public facility or event, this should demonstrate a personal sense of safety and security knowing protection of all users is the desired result. It's unfortunate you find our rules offensive to your delicate sensibilities
