Absolutely do not miss the current special exhibit of "Angkor - The Lost Empire of Cambodia". This is one of the best special exhibits we have seen anywhere. Totally amazing artifacts. The curators have done a fabulous job in presenting the material. The other areas of the museum are also exceptional well done. This is a "must visit" attraction.

We visited on a Sunday and spent a good few hours among the exhibits. What a great wealth of local history is on display. Well worth a visit. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful.

Great place to get out and spend a few hours learning about the history of Alberta. Hundreds if not thousands of artifacts to see including animals and some dinosaurs.

The Human History Hall was disjointed and seemed random at times, with articles placed in spots with no thought regarding flow. Very disappointed in the Indigenous section of the Hall, again no apparent flow. The Natural History Hall was very good, especially the very large collection of rocks/crystals - very impressive.

This museum is worthy of a good visit. I hadn't heard much about it, and I live in Alberta! I was taking an online course about insects and learned of the bug gallery, so wanted to check it out. We parked at City Hall and wandered over. The lobby is really spacious and nice.

The People's hall was ok, sort of standard fare, but the Mammal gallery was outstanding! Wooly mammoths, giant sloths, giant land bears, and more were displayed in a really inviting fashion. The shadow work in the gallery was just awing. There was also a gemstone gallery that simple rivals the gemstome gallerys of both the Royal Ontario Museum (Toronto) and the Canadian Nature Museum (Ottawa).

But the show stopper for me was the bug gallery. The furniture and hive in the center of the room were exciting, but the species available for viewing were outstanding! Giant spiders, beetles, exotic crickets and more were all showcased in a really cool way The curators of this museum have done an excellent job setting up their displays.

The children's section was a big of a drag. I really liked learning about the types of bark on trees, it taught me a lot about the poplar trees that are common in my area, but there was not a lot for older kids (age 8) to do in this area. Still, this museum is worth a visit!

Very good place, expecially for children to learn about Canada’s history and nature. Very near China town and metro station. Love it very much ❤️

Great museum for everyone! We took our 5 month old with us, but let’s be honest, the visit was more so for us! We loved the dinosaur exhibition, indigenous history and the variety between all of the exhibitions. Our little one especially enjoyed the fish tanks!

Okay value, and it’s a nice space but a big space and not a huge amount to see. I am sure there was more to see in it’s previous location?

Reasonably good presentation of Alberta’s natural history and human culture in spacious new downtown museum. Website boasts it’s now western Canada’s largest, but that’s measured in space, not exhibits. Design prioritizes vast open spaces, with only 2 mid-sized exhibit halls: upper on natural history and lower on human culture, about 2-3 hours’ viewing. This makes $21 admission seem steep. Website ignores another comparison: RAM has shortest hours of any major Canadian museum: 10-4, W-Su, last tickets sold at 3:00. Café, with limited selection, closes at 2:00 and runs out of most sandwiches by 1:00. Beautiful outdoor 2nd-floor patio with great downtown view is off-limits, even on warm summer days. Locals who remember the old museum will regret greatly reduced natural history exhibits and local history fans will find a dominant focus on Indigenous cultures, with everything else given minimal space by comparison, including European agricultural settlement and the oil and gas industry, the economic developments that built modern Alberta. Fine arts and education are also ignored: virtually nothing on symphony orchestras, theatre, literature or schools and universities. Explanatory panels are dumbed down to elementary school reading level: a few short sentences. Given the rare opportunity of a new building on a prime downtown site, this museum for a large and growing province seems underwhelming, with its emphasis on wide open spaces rather than educational substance.

We really enjoyed the bug room, rocks and mineral gallery, and animal exhibits. Very well layed-out and presented.

The parking situation could be improved and make this place a lot better. Downtown is congested as it is, but a parking area if possible for the museum would be grand. There was an older gentleman staff member who took away from our experience. I know it's his job, but we were kind of upset when he told us the closed and sealed water bottle that we were carrying must be kept in a pocket or a bag. I would understand his approach if were drinking from it in the gallery, but it was literally being carried by it's handle down at our side. We did not have a backpack for this water bottle so we had to awkwardly jam it into a pocket, which really created a higher risk of dropping it than it being carried.
