Lots to see
okt. 2021 • Alene
I attended Oct 19, 2021 and booked my ticket in advance. It was a rainy day so not busy outside. Inside the dome I spent the allotted hour reading all the materials and signs. Lots of workers busy planting bulbs and doing maintenance before the winter. Beautiful spot, would love to see it at different times of year.

Great for a rainy day

Good to have a couple of rainy day options in Vancouver. Well structured and maintained with some birds flying around inside.

Unsafe for kids and birds
sep. 2021
Parrots are restricted to their degraded and unenriched perches. Their flight feathers are cut and they can't access the ground (perches are proofed against ground access). Considering that these highly intelligent birds are restricted to their boring perches, I'd hope that they had access to real enrichment and intellectual diversions but they don't. I saw many of their parrot species demonstrating repetitive manic behaviors which indicates poor psychological wellbeing. Other than basic info about parrot names and native location, Bloedel can't put up any educational placards about the plight of wild-caught exotic birds and the difficulties of being a responsible parrot parent? A total lost opportunity for real education.
Also a TON of rodent bait boxes camouflaged around that place. You want your kids around all that poison?

HORRIBLEEEEE
aug. 2021 • Venner
INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTING!! You can only visit the place for 5 minutes, there is a man yelling at you to get out of the place constantly, you can definitely tell he HATES his job.

There is not even an option to park for less than an hour. Yet the visits are timed and rushed by the staff.

Worst of all it was plagued with unadvertised mice, in the 5 minutes we were there, we saw at least 10 of them. They climb the plants/trees and walk all over your feet. Not sure if they are part of the exhibition but very worry some.

Sadly, I would NOT recommend this place.

So much tropical fun!

This is one of the most fun places to go in Vancouver. It’s a beautiful tropical oasis, right in the middle of Vancouver! Lots of fun to go anytime, especially with kids. Would definitely recommend!

Lovely place!! Beautifully kept exotic gardens, with tons of colorful, happy, and healthy birds to spot. We did two loops in just over half an hour and were quite happy with our experience.

Such a fun activity!
jun. 2021
This activity exceeded our expectations! The place inside is so beautiful and peacful, you truly feel like you are in a different part of the world. We came to mostly see the birds and parrots, but were happy to see a lot of plants, and special/exoticl trees ( like the vanilla tree) . The gentleman at the entrance was also very very friendly

RUDE FRONT DESK STAFF
apr. 2021
Dear Vancouver Board of Parks:

This is a complaint about Bloedel Conservatory.

1. Not Clear
My family and I visited the Bloedel Conservatory this afternoon, we pre-booked 2:00 tickets online. On my payment page, clearly says Entry time 2:00 - 2:45. My understanding is: you can enter anytime between 2:00 to 2:45. On the Payment receipt page as well, it just says 2:00 - 2:45. If the visitor comes in at 2:44, the front desk should tell the visitor you only have one minute left, you should exit at 2:45. At this point, even though you are late, you choose if you come in or not.

2. Rude staff - Head Cashier
At 2:45, MM who works at the front desk, keep saying "Get out from here", "Go out!", "if you do not get out, I will call security." WHAT A RUDE ATTITUDE!!! Do you ask visitors to GET OUT from the building? Is this appropriate? Lack of work literacy, it is very rude to insult the tourists and let the tourists get out! Is this a City of Vancouver staff should say to visitors? Such a SHAME! Have great disrespect for us! She must apologize to us for her rude and swear words, there should not have racism in the City of Vancouver staff, zero-tolerance!!

3. Chaotic Management
When this issue happens, M and a cleaning staff keep asking me to contact the Bloedel Conservatory supervisor ES. I don’t contact, another staff called her several times. As a result, nobody answered the phone, this another staff either cannot reach out to her. If you cannot reach out to your supervisor, HOW CAN I REACH OUT TO HER?? WHAT A CHAOTIC MANAGEMENT IN BLOEDEL CONSERVATORY??

Thank you for your attention and I hope someone can solve this problem and give me and my family a reasonable explanation and that RUDE STAFF MM apologize for her swear words.

Hi there, We apologize that it was not clear that 2:00pm was the beginning of your 45-minute time slot. Kindly note that this information is listed on the Bloedel Conservatory website, ticketing page, on the ticket, and in the reminder email that is sent to all ticket holders before they visit. 2:00pm is listed as the entry time on the ticket, and there is also messaging included that states “Please arrive 5 minutes before your entry time. Time slots are 45 minutes long”. All visitors are required to leave at the end of their 45-minute booking so our staff can sanitize the facility before the next time slot enters. Our staff members politely asked you to leave the facility multiple times at the end of your designated time slot, but you refused to leave. Bloedel Conservatory staff then tried to kindly explain how our time slot ticketing process works, where this information can be found, and you ignored them. Our staff also offered our ticketing provider and supervisor's contact information so you could request a refund, and this refund has since been processed. Our supervisor has already spoken to you over the phone about your experience and you confirmed that you were asked to leave, but our staff did not swear at you. We apologize again if our time slot ticketing process was not clear. We will continue to try and improve our communications to ensure that visitors are aware of the current process.

Tropical Paradise atop Vancouver
feb. 2021
Inspired by a recent DownieLive video, my partner and I decided to check out the Bloedel Conservatory on a chilly February afternoon. We arrived at 3PM – our designated slot – to partake in this “wee wonder in a busy city,” to quote an earlier TripAdvisor review. The whole experience was, to be blunt, a nice and needed reprieve from the winter cold.

The Bloedel Conservatory has been open since 1969; however, I’d never patronized this popular Vancouver attraction until now. I’d say that’s hard for me to believe, but ever since I started actively exploring this city – and writing about those experiences – I’ve discovered that there’s a lot about Vancouver I was ignorant to. In a way, then, putting pen to paper (so to speak) has allowed me to grow while concomitantly providing a forum through which to share those experiences.

Having been built over 50 years ago, I get the feeling that the architects of Bloedel Conservatory were going for a space-age sort of look with the dome structure. For me, this makes sense because Vancouver was accelerating its modernization at the time – something that culminated about 17 years later with Expo 86. Now, 52 years later, the futuristic look of Bloedel still stands out – a testament to those who envisioned this unique place and space.

Once inside, you’re immediately transported to an environment unlike any other in the city. Within the humid dome, you’re greeted by over 120 species of free-flying exotic birds, 500 exotic plants and three different climate zones. It truly is a magical space. We used the “bird watchers sheet” provided at the entrance to try and identify as many of our feathered friends as possible! Of those we encountered, my personal favourites were the finches (Zebra and Gouldian), African Grey and Chinese Pheasants. The finches were so cute zipping about the conservatory, adding much energy to the place.

I confess I’m not really into plants, and so didn’t pay much attention to the plethora of flora on display except to note how nice some of them looked (a total layman’s perspective!); however, this did get me thinking about an event at Bloedel that ALMOST convinced me to visit a few years ago: Back in July 2018, the Conservatory’s rare “corpse flower” was going to bloom. I so wanted to go and partake in its lovely aroma – especially since the flower only blooms once every 7 to 10 years – but the costs of getting to Vancouver at the time were rather prohibitive for such a short event. Oh well . . . there’s always YouTube footage!

Within the context of COVID, the Bloedel Conservatory has handled the pandemic well: They have specific entry times throughout the day; each block is limited to 45 minutes; face masks are mandatory; and guests must maintain the proper physical distance for the duration of their visit (floors are clearly marked throughout). As we explored the conservatory, we felt totally safe and, thus, enjoyed the experience! Highly recommended!

Great option, even during covid
apr. 2021 • Familie
We went to the conservatory for a 10am visit and purchases tickets online a few days before. Entry was quick and easy and the covid protocols were great. Not overly busy and 45 minutes to spend. Could easily go a few rounds and still have extra time. Our 2 year old loved all the birds and colors.
