Beautiful grounds and a lot of history going back to the late 1800’s. There is no admittance cost but they will accept donations. This is a must stop rain or shine for everyone. The museum and the historical house is located minutes from downtown Victoria and there is free parking on site.

I have been to this house many times . it is set up from the "hay days" of the family that lived there and you can do the guided tour with the "Chinese servants" speaking about what life was like. " . It is an industrial area now but don't miss it if you are visiting and like history. the build over gorge waterway has a bad history too. don't miss it. In the summer there is a tea room for a snack too..

Where is the high tea everyone mentioned? We didn’t see anything of the sort and didn’t think to ask while we were there.

I hate to say it....and the irony is not lost on me, but the house is so run down. Other than the gardens, it doesn’t seem like any maintenance has taken place for a very long time. The wallpaper is ripping off and more disturbing was all the evidence of water damage in the walls and ceiling. I think it’s sad that the wishes of the family who donated don’t appear to be honoured in good faith. I feel kind of ripped off for the $20, actually, if it’s not going to a good cause.

I’m all for preserving the past but I also think more care should be taken. I have been to many museum homes in my lifetime, it’s one of my favourite touristy things to do, and this this was by far the most disappointing due to the condition.

You'll see very negative reviews for afternoon tea, and they are probably correct. I don't know. But if you are interested in how a wealthy family lived ca 1860 to 1930, this is a must-see. They family lived there for 150 years, and the interior is as it was ca 1930. The gardens are not as well-cared for as they were 20 years ago, but it's still worth a visit if you are town for more than three days.

On Saturday, July 14, 2018, my family and I (four of us) took the ferry from Pt Angeles to Victoria for the express purpose of having afternoon tea on the lawn at Pt Ellice House to celebrate our daughter’s birthday, which we had done several times. What a disaster. After the cost of the Coho ferry to Victoria ($148) and the Victoria Harbor Ferry to Pt Ellice House ($55), was when we were told that Pt Ellice no longer serves afternoon tea on the lawn. Tea is now done in the Welcome Centre - a converted old barn - on wooden kitchen tables & chairs, no linens, complete with office space, empty display cases, and dirty floors. Our “tea” was set up next to one of the entrances and kitty-corner from the bathroom. Our tea for four was set as tea for three. I had ordered, and the woman who took my order completely understood my order: 3 regular and 1 vegan/gluten-free teas. What the caterer provided was one regular, one vegan, and one gluten-free tea. (I firmly believe this was not the fault of the Pt Ellice House woman who took my order.) I cannot begin to describe how extremely sad, disappointed, and deflated we were, not to mention not very pleased with the time and money invested. We were invited to stay and share the three teas and be reimbursed for one. No, the order was completely wrong and the room was not inviting or inducive for tea at all (sort of nasty). We were next invited to have just tea on the lawn and a full reimbursement. That we did. In addition to all this, the lawns and gardens are in total neglect. The good: Monday when I called to confirm my reimbursement, the girl who’d taken my order apologized and took responsibility for not telling me beforehand that tea was no longer served on the lawn. The young lady working the Welcome Centre on Saturday is actually an intern at the museum; she was gracious and extremely apologetic about the mess-up, and tried her best to salvage the situation. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, EFFORT, OR MONEY!!!

My daughter (not a young teen - TripAdvisor)lives nearby & we decided to visit. What an amazing gorgeous estate , rich in history. The house was lived in for near 200 years by the same family & was left with EVERYTHING intact including journals detailing day to day life of the family throughout the decades. It was a beautiful home & I am grateful it has been so marvelously preserved. Many famous Americans & Canadians stayed & visited the family .It was famous in its heyday for the entertainment & the gardens , some of which are intact. I even bought some Hollyhock seeds .Point Ellice house was famous even before Confederation & during the gold rush. If you love history & antiques, this is the place to visit.
In spite of Victoria having it's fair share of ghosts this is a happy place with a wonderful welcoming feel to it. They had been serving tea but are not anymore since poor attendance. The $10 admission fee is well worth it for the tour.
Our guide was quite knowledgeable, However unfortunately due to her quiet voice & British accent much of it was unintelligible to us. We will return another day.

Don't believe the picture. No longer tea on the lawn. No one dresses in period costumes. Tea served in the barn. Wasted a little boat ride to and from. Museum closed except by reservation. Total waste of time.

I truly enjoy going for high tea here. The setting is outside in a beautiful garden on the waterfront wicker furniture in small groupings. Wait Staff are in period costume adding to the ambience. Lovely tea served with sandwiches and daintiest. Not hurried very relaxed. My daughter and I have gone many times.
