This is an adorable urban garden run by volunteers who work hard to develop and maintain it.
It is inspirational.

A must if you like gardens.

The gardens are stunning and the incorporation of the stone and plants is just wonderful.

It also has a tea room in the old family home and a small gift shop

We had a most delightful tea at the Abkhazi Garden! The setting is absolutely stellar! Our tea, which we used as lunch, was reserved in the garden and we had a lovely table on the patio surrounded by beautiful plans. The setting could not have been more lovely or special!
The tea itself was fabulous! My companion requires a gluten free tea and it was on recommendation of TA members, that I booked here. The gluten free tea was as delicious and varied as my 'regular' one. There were so many mouth watering delicacies. We ended up taking treats with us to enjoy later.
The teas come from Silk Road Teas and include a special blend just for the gardens. This was a lovely, fragrant tea and is well worth trying.

The service was so accommodating and the setting is lovely -- either in the garden or in the main house. It is well worth a visit!

If you were thinking, this is going to be another Butchart Gardens it’s not. It is a very well preserved park in a residential area. There is a tea house for an inner city garden. It is beautiful not a lot to do around there besides this. Best time to visit spring.

SKIP THIS! We did this excursion through Royal Caribbean and it was the worst excursion we ever went on. The garden is small and going in July there was VERY LITTLE pretty flowers bloomed. The tea house was SOOOO hot (no ac) with one bathroom (for 37 people that went on the excursion) and an over priced gift shop. The tea was scalding hot that by the time it cooled down enough to drink, I was so hot that had to go outside (so I drank like 3-4 oz total). There is a difference between hot tea and 2nd degree mouth burn.

The food was okay but completely over-priced. Also, if you do the “city highlights tour” with the cruise line, be prepared to see graffiti, apartments, hear depressing stories like the town hero getting cancer, etc. Not a highlight and it was miserable experience beginning to end. (FYI, I have left amazing reviews for the other excursions we did and usually don’t complain like this on a business — but we were that miserable and hate that we wasted our money!) also be prepared for “family style” seating. We did get a table for two, but only 2 available (not romantic for the other couples who couldn’t get the private tables!)

Well worth visiting. Very pretty, well-done garden. Also worth having the Afternoon Tea. (Recommend the royal Abkhazi tea.) Easy to access by public bus in theory, though once I was on the bus it skipped the stop I needed--apparently that particular does not have the stop in its route, so ask before boarding.

Very beautiful layout of the land. An enjoyable setting with a feast for the eyes. Although we didn’t sit down for tea, it would be wonderful . The friendly volunteers told us the historic background of the place , that adds a lot to the experience. Truly amazing to see such well cultivated garden , tend by volunteers with fondness of the plants and place.

The walk (self guided) through the gardens is wonderful and full of beautiful plants of different sizes and shapes, all compressed into one acre in a residential area. The history is better laid out in the web site, but both the husband and wife were interned during WWII in quite different places and different circumstances. They had known each other before the war. They met again after thinking the other had died, and married and spent their time building their garden and their house. The house is quite revolutionary for the interior design at the time (see the dining room pictures) and being in the house is a mixture of pure domestic matters (period tiling in the bathroom), modern for the time design elements (indirect lighting in the dining room) and china from that era when they lived there. Our timing was at the end of the afternoon and we missed the opportunity to have tea and a snack there, but it's clear it would have been a lot of fun. Our snack was at the nearby DemiTasse, but that's another review.

A zen garden in Oak Bay.

Showcasing the expansive and diverse gardens with quaint walking trails the loop through the property. Very hard to believe it exists & so peaceful within the city -

In October, more green than flowering but a great hidden gem and charity to supporr as well.

We toured the garden and even my husband who was iffy about the whole thing thoroughly enjoyed it. We spent over an hour wandering while waiting for our tea reservation. That was an adequate amount of time. Then we had the afternoon tea. The sandwiches and goodies were very good. I chose this place for the tea experience because it was significantly cheaper than the Empress. And I guess one does it for the experience because I can’t quite figure out why it’s so expensive for the amount of food you get.

Peggy Abkhazi began the gardens in 1947. She came to Victoria after years interred at a Japanese camp in Shanghai. She and her husband Nicolas spent years creating a beautiful space where landscape and plants exist harmoniously on a hillside parcel near Cook Village. A place of quiet beauty, this gem is an oasis in an urban landscape and is well worth a visit.
