I'd say something nice, but the city
could have at least tried to wash the bird dung off the sidewalks... maybe they're using the smelly feces as a deterrent for the 1000's of drug addicts who continually harass travelers and just lay about the streets begging. Try going into a common coffee shop, and the drug addicts are just laying about and screaming in people's faces who won't support their habits. Antique shops are closing, making way for more condos, affordable hotels are now gone, re-purposed for drug addict losers and criminals.... leaving Joe traveler to flip the bill on hotels 3X more expensive than just a few years ago.
Goodbye Victoria, it was a good run.

I see many of the earlier reviews of City Hall are dismissive, basically saying “not much to see here.” Certainly, if you’re expecting a detailed tour or whatever then that’s probably true because, while you can enter the building, most do so for functional reasons. The interior isn’t really a touristy destination (and probably explains why no one has reviewed this listing in over 4 years). As such, I’d suggest City Hall is only worth a stop if you’re interested in forms of classical architecture.
Indeed, City Hall is a good example of “Second Empire” style architecture. With its mansard roof, clock tower, and detailed ornamentation, it is said to be one of the more notable examples of the eclectic style in western Canada. For that reason, Victoria City Hall was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1977.
Beyond the unique architecture, people might also be interested in the fairly recent politics that surrounded City Hall. In brief, the City of Victoria began a process of Reconciliation, in 2017, with the First Nations on whose traditional territory they reside. Following lengthy (and challenging) “truth tellings,” a decision was made to remove the statue of Sir John A. Macdonald from City Hall’s front steps (2018). This was done, the City said, to “show progress” in the discussions. While one can certainly debate the overall value in removing one statue for reconciliation, it nevertheless represents a positive step – albeit a very small one.
When Victoria City Hall was completed in 1890, it was viewed as a symbol of “civic pride” and “optimism for the future.” Back then, that likely meant excitement for economic expansion and Provincial growth. Looking at our city today, and the important work being done with First Nations, I’d say that continues to hold true. In a way, City Hall represents a fine and fair mix of historical, cultural, political and social progressivism.
On another note, it’s just a shame we now have all those ugly bike lanes downtown because a certain mayor had a personal vanity project.

I dropped by this building out of curiosity as it was just opposite the hotel where I was staying. It is an old building housing the City Hall of Victoria. Residents come here for services. It has many historical maps and photos of the early days of the city of Victoria. Informative. Next to the Centennial Square.

parking isn't easy and the surroundings are just basic but nice enough to hang out around the grassy area or watch people coming and going

We did a quick visit to see Victoria's City Hall. It's the seat of the municipal government. It's a historic building Nd they are very welcoming to visitors.

It's a city hall, what more is there to say, It is housed in a historic building that looks alright, but nothing that special. A city hall.
