Hitting the trailhead yesterday was amazing, once you hit the 3km marker you will start encountering isolated patches of snow. This becomes a snow trail from around 4km. Snow is densely packed all the way up to the meadows, around 5/6kms from the tusk itself. However once here, without snow shoes the snow becomes almost impossible. With the warm weather we started sinking, at points up to our waist. If you are planning to head here as we, snowshoes are defo recommended if you plan on getting anywhere near the finishing point. Be safe hikers!

Was unsure of doing the hike especially in 1 day but if you are in shape totally manageable. Started 945am and finished before 5. We stopped for many pictures and a picnic along the way as well. The chute leading up to the very very top of Black Tusk we both decided against. Very tricky and dangerous but a more experienced mountain climber could do it. However the view from the point we were at was still amazing. There was still snow at the top and the view of the glacial water was indescribable. Definitely will go back to do again.

Done in 1 day, with 4 breaks, and a detour to the Garibaldi Lake.
10 first Kms are ok, but the end is very tricky, especially when it's cloudy and cold.
Lot of snow even in late July, so get ready.
You must climb up the last 20 meters, so be very careful as it can dangerous. It must a breath-taking view, but we couldn't see nothing the day we did it as there were only clouds.
Started 8:15
Finished : 18:30
It's about 30kms walk if you only do the Black Tusk, but there are plenty of others road along the way.
Enjoy ! And check the weather by 2 times !

This is a great day hike, you are constantly surrounded by beautiful views. The snow capped mountain are majestic and the lakes are beautiful as the sun glistens down on them. The climb to the summit of the tusk requires one to be careful, it is well worth the effort to hike it. you will be duly rewarded with the view of the surrounding areas of Beautiful BC

We set up camp at Garibaldi Lake and used that as our base to do both this hike and Panorama Ridge. The trail to Garibaldi is quite one-note and a steady climb, but so worth it. We loved the hike from the lake to the Tusk -- gorgeous alpine meadows (we saw bears & marmots), and a steady climb but a very well-maintained easy path. Once you get to the base, where the maintained trail ends, it gets a bit more adventurous, and we loved scrambling up (and especially down) the shale. It was cold and windy at the top of the ridge right under the tusk, where we chose to stop, and we had a leisurely lunch and took a ton of photos. The views were absolutely breathtaking-- we were in awe the entire time. I would advise that if you feel comfortable, to not stop at the sign, as the views just get better and better as you go up. It only took about 2 hours at a leisurely pace (for us) from Garibaldi Lake and less on the way back. Don't miss this hike!!

Great day hike. Basic hiking rules apply: prepare for four season weather regardless of the weather report, solid hiking shoes, and a good hiking buddy!
The path is extremely easy, with great elevation gains all the way to the base of the black tusk. Nothing too intense, like how the Howe Sound Crest Trail is so jagged/rocky/tree roots, this one is a well made path up until the tusk base.
However, at this point, it gets very difficult. Lots of cliff hugging, rocky terrain, vertical ascents etc. I'm surprised they haven't put up a rope or two for some parts of the ascent. In fact, once at the top, the worst part is the immediate descent which again requires a vertical climb down. Follow the pink markers!

Me tomo 15 horas ida y vuelta ir a Black Tusk.

Welche Ausrüstung braucht man? Danke für die Antwort!

Hi,
I plan on being in the Whistler/Squamish area on July 2nd & 3rd. The Black Tusk Trail is definitely a hike I'd love to do with my family. However, most of what I've been finding is that it's approx. a 16mile hike (##) which is to long for my daughter (10). I recently bought a book called "103 Hikes in Southwestern British Colombia" by Bryceland & MaCaree. In the description for Black Tusk they mention that the hike can be done in approx. 7miles (##) if you park and start at the Taylor Meadows Campground. So I have a few questions regarding this....
1. Can you drive to the campground or do you have to hike in to it?
2. Will the campground allow you to park there just to hike?
3. The book says that it's 7miles round trip from the TM campground, does that sound correct?
Thank you for the help!

I'm hiking black tusk for mother's day 2016. Weight is an issue since we will be camping overnight. I'm not sure whether I should bring snow shoes at this time of year or if yaktrax will suffice. Ciao Debra
