Nice little museum
okt. 2019
When we arrived, we parked in the back and thought the museum was closed (you cannot see the sign from here). It also doubles as a tourist information office and upon further investigating, found it to be open. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The museum is small, but has a very nice collection of stuffed animals, a bunch of artifacts and some reminders of Thompson's past, including First Nations and the trailblazers who "discovered" the area. We were told that some 60 years ago, there was nothing here and that the city developed around the nickle mine (still in operation). This is also a hub for visits to Churchill and the second busiest airport in Manitoba. Ask the lady at the front desk questions about the cold weather testing facilities and you will be surprised who comes here for testing cars, airplanes and airplane engines. Only one of the buildings was open. Check their website for opening hours. A nice little gift shop near the entrance. You can spend 30-60 minutes here.

This is a nice small cultural museum for the Thompson area. It explains the history of the area. There are 2 log houses that make up the museum.

Small local museum
aug. 2016 • Venner
This is a small local museum in Thompson. There are two buildings. One is the usual small town pioneer museum and the other is a review of the mining history that began this town. Small entrance fee (I think it was $3.50 per adult). Good for killing a couple of hours while in Thompson.

One of Thompson's most interesting!

Historical facts about the local area including the city's financial drive, the well known mine. My interests are the Aboriginal and local displays, artistic works depicting fish, birds and animals inhabiting the area. Also, there's a 'tipi' simulation, canoe, animal skin clothes etc. Visiting prices are reasonable. The museum is in an attractive wooden cabin. They have a souvenir shop.

Great piece of Thompson history here! The museum coordinator was very pleasant to talk to, and shared some very interesting pieces of information about Thompson's past. Lots of neat things to view. If you're in Thompson, it's a must-see!

Worth checking out

The Heritage museum is an interesting place. You learn a lot about the history of the culture in the area. I really like the wolf statues on the grounds as well. Their gift shop has a few unique things as well. I live in an area in the US where local maple syrup is readily available. Here they have birch syrup. I really like the flavor. Very unique thing to try. I never even knew there was such a thing until coming here.

A nice, friendly museum

This was a great museum. It's in a big log cabin, which adds to the ambience. You can't miss the center display with the wolves ,the teepee and the birch bark canoe. It's very well done, and worth more than a lingering look. There are displays about the history of Thompson and several other stuffed animals which are worth a look. The gift shop was also very nice, and the staff were very friendly.

Must-see in Thompson

I'm a big fan of museums in general. I really enjoyed this one. It contains a lot if interesting information and exhibits focusing on the natural history of the region as well as the specific history of the growth and development of Thompson centered around mining. Admission cost is nominal. Exhibits are good quality. We spent a couple hours there, could have stayed longer.

Worth the Minimal Charge
jul. 2015 • Familie
Heritage North Museum at 162 Princeton Drive. (204) 677-2216 has minimal entrance charge. Helpful curator. Very good displays of historical community from school house information to personal citizen possessions. Lots of taxidermy animals with appropriate explanations. A separate, nearby building houses the nickel mining equipment and story.
