We just spent a full day going through this museum. First it really applies the message of inclusion and respect. We were able to get an electric wheelchair for my husband who walks with a cane. I couldn’t have pushed him up the all the ramps. These ramps are part of the sense of being on a journey of discovery. The exhibits are auditory, visual and all the videos we watched were also in sign language. The message of this museum is so clear. We all must continue to strive for understanding and acceptance of each other. The highlight for me was the Witness Blanket exhibit(read the words on the back of the door). The part Canada (and other countries too) had in denying Jews entry to Canada during the era of Nazi Germany was hard to accept but part of our heritage. So many well described aspects of human rights and our human struggles to accept each other. WELL worth a visit.

My favorite museum of any I've visited. The architecture is amazing inside and out and contributes to the story and theme perfectly. A deeply moving experience, with a lot of reading and slef contemplation. Some may not appreciate the slower pace and effort required to truly appreciate this masterfully crafted experience but if you are interested in taking the time to examine some dark elements of humanity and our work towards enlightenment, it will be well worth a visit!

I visited this fascinating museum that speaks mainly, as the name suggests, of human rights and struggles over time. A superb exhibition 'Loud and clear: Music, Resistance and Change' brings us into the musical sphere and the various groups and individuals who have fought and denounced human rights in their art. Several permanent exhibitions are present. In short, I enjoyed my visit, I was alone and I took about 3h30 to visit it taking my time. Note: From one room to another there are ascending walkways to get there so you have to plan to walk but elevators are available for people with reduced mobility or families with a stroller. Take the time to visit the outside of the Museum is also beautiful!

The contents of this museum are in an architecturally beautiful structure. It will take some time, and a good number of steps to see it all. You will be rewarded with knowledge, and incredible views at the climactic end. There are ramps, and elevators. The exhibits are both powerful and thought- provoking. It is a major achievement- and should not be missed. At present, it is free on Sundays.

Beautiful building both inside and out. The many personal stories of having lived through some of the worst violations of human rights in history make the museum come alive. Definitely shouldn't be missed if you are in Winnipeg but also worth going to Winnipeg to visit.

The fascinating structure that contains the Museum is in itself worth a visit with amazing views of Winnipeg and unusual architectural design. But then there are 5 floors of exhibits that will stimulate your mind and emotions. While you are being educated and enlightened on numerous human rights issues you marvel at the striking manners in which it is presented. Please be sure to make time to visit.

Definitely worth a visit while you’re in Winnipeg! We found the exhibits very insightful and thought-provoking, and they even kept our 13 year old engaged for a couple hours. Lots of videos and interactive exhibits as well.
The building itself is amazing and the view from the 8th floor would have been great if it hadn’t been so cloudy.
Would plan to spend at least 2 hours here, possibly longer!

Way better than I was expecting. I had a few hours to kill before my flight so I took a 10 minute walk from my downtown hotel to the museum. $18 entrance fee. I don’t know if they offer tours but I did it solo. My first suggestion is to take the elevator to the top then walk down otherwise it is a continual walk up ramp after ramp. To see everything would take hours and hours but I saw a lot in a couple hours. Some great movies and exhibits to learn from.

Not about artifacts. Mostly text exhibits to read history. Complete waste of tax payer’s money and losing money every year which was known would happen even before it was built. Convert it to a water park and actually produce a positive revenue! Very sad in a city with crumbling abyssal infrastructure!

Hi, Is it suitable to young children (age 4)? Concerned about some of the subject matter....
Skrevet 3. august 2015
Visitors of all ages will find exhibits that engage and educate at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. In fact, several exhibitions were designed with young people in mind. However, some of our stories touch on subject matter that is not appropriate for children.
We therefore encourage you to participate in the learning experiences of children in your care while visiting the Museum. Explore the exhibits together to help to shape children’s educational journey. Our staff, located throughout the galleries, will be happy to guide you and help you plan a journey suitable for your own family. On Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays during the summer, a special table is set up at the entrance to assist families.
Here are some great activities at the Museum to share with youngsters:
• The building itself is a “wow” experience that inspires awe and wonder. Children may enjoy learning that they are about to embark on a journey from darkness to light. Starting below ground level in a dim and earthy environment, you can explore visually dramatic spaces and enjoy a quest-like journey up a stunning series of illuminated ramps that connect the galleries. Near the top, take a glass elevator ride to the viewing platform of the Israel Asper Tower of Hope (or bounce up the amazing spiral staircase if you dare!). It provides a thrilling view of the city at a height of 58 metres.
• In the Indigenous Perspectives gallery, a beautiful circular theatre shows a 360-degree surround film on Indigenous concepts of rights and responsibilities. One of the narrators of this family-friendly story is a young girl. The theatre also introduces the Seven Sacred Teachings of love, courage, humility, honesty, wisdom, truth and respect.
• In the Canadian Journeys gallery, children can play a motion-sensor light game. People of all ages have fun entering the circle and watching how their movements activate colourful light effects. As players interact, their individual spheres of light merge and expand, symbolizing the power of inclusion and cooperation to strengthen our individual efforts.
• In the Actions Count gallery, everyone can try a fun digital interactive table with appealing animated characters (think Mindcraft meets The Sims). The game shows how young people can put ideas into action to make a difference. Players can role-play and make choices about scenarios such as starting a sports team for inner-city youth.
• In the Rights Today gallery, children are invited to think about everyday objects such as cell phones and plastic bags. They explore how ordinary items are connected to human rights.
• In the Inspiring Change gallery, every visitor is encouraged to create a personal human rights message and add it to a display for others to see. Colourful pens and blank cards invite children to imagine a better world in any way they wish.
• Also in the Inspiring Change gallery, people of all generations can enjoy music listening stations. Put on a set of headphones, choose a song related to human rights, and select colours to express your emotional response to the music.
• Our mobile app includes an engaging self-guided audio tour, so bring your mobile devices and headphones. There are also images, videos and a panorama view from the Tower of Hope with touchable “hot spots” that explain nearby landmarks. Another feature captures extra information when you walk near one of 120 iBeacons located throughout the building. Download it for free from the App Store or Google Play by searching “Canadian Museum for Human Rights”.
We hope you enjoy your visit.

How/where do I enter if I'm driving a tour bus of school children. Also where do I park while waiting for them.
Skrevet 15. februar 2015
As noted above, there is a group entrance. Contact the group events manager for further information about admission prices and parking for your bus.

I'm driving a school bus from Beausejour mb. were do I enter the museum for student drop off?
Skrevet 20. januar 2015
Hi John. The Group Entrance for school programs is on Israel Asper Drive (formerly Waterfront Drive). You would need to drive towards the Forks, then do a U-turn (or go around the roundabout by the parkade) and drop the students off at the curb in front of the entrance.
