Peaceful Place to learn history

Great place to explore when wandering the downtown area. Right on the waterfront, it has storyboards explaining a lot of the history of the area. Also across the War Memorial so worth checking both out while there.

nice and clean park, had a lunch here, beautiful views of the water, also provides history of the city, facing war memorial and of course the 2 dog bronzes

A Quiet Perspective

During the morning Harbourside Park is a tranquil
urban spot with scenic views of the harbour.

If you are staying in the area, it is the perfect place to start your day before heading off to explore St Johns.

The park becomes quite active and lively in the
afternoon onwards with locals and travellers alike
using the spot to hangout.

There is a local coffee shop, Madras Cafe (183
Duckworth) located at the top of the park close to
the War Memorial that serves sandwiches, pastries,coffee, tea, among many other choices.

The cafe is open at 8:00am or 9:00am depending on the day of the week.

Pleasant little park in center of city

This park is at the location where Sir Humphrey Gilbert lay claim to New Foundland and across the street from the War Memorial. It has some interesting plaques on New Foundland history along with a New Foundland dog. There is a nice view of the harbor. Not a must see, but a quiet rest stop to sit and relax for a little bit. At one time there may have been docks here.

Our cruise ship docked near here so we walked along the park very well kept nice veiws and very clean it lovely to look out over the water at the veiws can spend s couple of hours here

A SPOT TO CHILL WITH A COUPLE OF BIG DOGS

This is a pleasant place to sit down. It is near the National War Monument, in the southeastern corner of the downtown core. It contains full sized depictions of Newfoundland and Labrador dogs. Read a book or people watch. You might be lucky enough to see a ship, even a cruise ship, coming or going.

Great Place for a Stroll

Right next to the Harbor this is a beautiful small park for stroll and watch the boats/ships go by. The waterways leading from the ocean to the port is clearly visible. A good place to take lots of pictures.

Beautiful park on the Harbour, great for kids, great to sit and take it all in

What a fantastic little park, on both sides of Water Street. Go here to visit the statues of Newfoundland's two most famous four-legged friends, the Newfoundland dog and the Labrador Retriever. Kids can get on top and go for a quick ride, or pretend to ride them. Plenty of benches and a beautiful view of the Harbour and Signal Hill on a clear day. Apparently, there are some musical performances during the summer in the park. This is also a nice place to watch the ships come and go in the Harbour. It's really a lovely park and a must stop, especially if you've been walking a lot exploring the city.

On the Cornerstone of the British Empire

Have always loved the peaceful easy feeling of this park and its location across from the Newfoundland National War Memorial harking back to an era when Newfoundland was a nation before Canada joined it. Recently it dawned on me that Harbourside Park is where Sir Humphrey Gilbert laid the Cornerstone of the British Empire in 1538. I learned this thanks to the Hop On - Hop Off Tour Service that operates close by adjacent to Raymond’s Restaurant.
