Was raining periodically. Made it hard for the pipers and drummers, who had to practice in tents. Great music. Was expecting more vendors. No haggis.

It is so delightful to see participation by all ages, from the tiniest dancers to the brawniest caber tossers, and the eldest pipers who can still bring you to tears with their heart-wrenching melodies. We absolutely loved these days ... don't miss out, early July!

This was a real cultural experience. From the hammer throw to the highland dancing to the tug of war to the caber toss, it was so fun to watch. It was $15 each well spent.

We got there at about 1:30 on the final day, Sunday, and got to see so much in a short time - about an hour and a half. The announcers really entertained us with their dry wit and off-colour commentary. They made the experience so much richer. They really informed and had a lot of fun doing it.

The grounds are small and we saw all of the events from the bleachers. There were some food stands, but not a lot of them. This is really all about the competition. There were portable washrooms and all the amenities needed, but no more.

Right in the heart or Antigonish, it's pretty hard to miss.

Wheelchair accessible and filled with friendly locals, this is a great way to spend an afternoon!

I love these games. And it is not just the games! Coming into Antigonish one is struck by the beauty of the mature trees, the bridges leading to town that have the most amazing flowers decorating them. Strolling through the area is 'what a town should feel like'. No big box stores in the core.... Love it.
Highlights not to be missed..
The Heatherton Lobster Supper!!! $20 and it will be the best lobster you've can imagine.
The Havre Boucher Salmon Supper...another $20 meal that again, is worth the drive from town. They had a troupe of highland dancers performing who really added to the atmosphere.
The Saturday am Parade....6 Pipe Bands this year and the sound is always majestic as they march from St F X to Columbus Field about a mile in total through the town.
The Games themselves- the Heavy Events!! and the Piping competitions are where I sat myself this year...next year, I will get a seat closer to the dancers as it was not possible to be everywhere! And the Tug Of War- always a great show!
This is an event not to be missed. There is always music and dancing on in the tent or the pubs. Loads of fun.

We were planning a trip to Nova Scotia in July when we saw that they were having the Antigonish Highland Games right at the beginning of our trip. We had so much fun! From the Concert Under the Stars featuring so many talented musicians, to the Arts and Crafts Fair, the Caber Toss and other Heavy Weights contests, the Ceilidhs, the dancing and non-stop bagpipes music in background!!! Awesome!!

The Highland Games are a lot of fun to watch. We really loved the strong man contests, the music and dancing. There is also yummy Scottish food to eat (try the Scotch eggs) and Scottish things to buy. We planned our whole trip to Nova Scotia around the games, and we were glad we did~
