The Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History is a small but interesting museum tucked away a short walk away from The Citadel. exhibits about the wildlife, plants and how they have played a part in The Maritimes over the span of time are featured. You can see everything in well under an hour but though small still worth a look.

This museum is quite small and I would say that it is more aimed at children visitors than adults. There are lots of interactive activities for the kids and they obviously enjoyed them. For us adults, it was a visit of about half an hour.

This a great little museum. There are a lot of interactive exhibits that both children and adults can both enjoy and learn from.

We were recently there for the Egyptian Mummy’s exhibit. It was a great time and was well put together. The regular exhibits that they have are also fun to see. The kids always love the turtles, frogs and snakes.

On a get-away visit to Halifax, we decided to visit the Museum of Natural History to see the special exhibit about Egypt. There were great artifacts, mummies and coffins that were 1000s of years old. We enjoyed learning about some of the burial rituals practiced in ancient times. In several places, the lighting was poor and we had difficulty reading the descriptions unless we moved to the side to get out of our own shadow. We loved the very realistic dioramas, especially the one with the deer and moose. Liked the live frogs & snakes as well as all the stuffed birds of the East Coast. We were able to park in the parking lot on the south side of the building but we got the last spot as this lot is also used by people visiting the hospital across the street.

Our family enjoyed this museum. Great for many ages. My youngest was bored quickly (he is 4) but he kept himself entertained with the Sable Island area. There is a large life size ship for kids to explore. I love the Sable Island area - very informative!
Lots of interactive attractions, with a variety of natural history. Live Animals (snakes/frogs/turtle), fossils, taxidermy, plants. We saw Gus (the 97 year old turtle) but he wasn’t doing much.
While we were there, the Egyptian display was being showcased. This was very neat. The information with each item was brief and sometimes hard to understand. But nonetheless, I found the items captivating. How could you not!? My 8 year old found them “creepy” but she still liked it.
The price for admission is very reasonable compared to some other museums.
Definitely recommend for families!

Having been to Egypt twice, I was pleased when the museum featured a special exhibit on Egyptian mummies and burial material. There was a good variety of material but it was not well labeled. I was interested in where some of the exhibits came from, but most were just explained generally. Overall I felt it was good exhibit. I was disappointed to find that the material was not directly from Egypt but was from Italy. This was material taken from Egypt, possibly in exchange for help saving other sites for flooding, but It could also have been simply artifacts taken during early days of exploring Egypt - this was not explained.

This is a great place to take younger children or in our case, grandchildren for a morning visit. On the day we arrived there was an excellent tour in place and a huge set up involving Lego. You simply can't miss with the Lego theme. It was extremely detailed and well put together. The entry cost is very reasonable and parking is provided next to the edifice itself.

We went with the kids, who spend as much time at the permanent living wildlife exhibit at the entrance as the so anywhere else. Turtles, snakes, bees, frogs, you name it- if it’s small and native to NS, they probably have some in a terrarium.
I always enjoy the underwater exhibit with starfish, crabs, and other aquatic critters.

The Cat Festival, sounds more like a market place than a display of cats for children to enjoy. Is this the case as I can’t seem to find past pictures of this event. Please enlighten us. Thanks.
