Peruviano on Locke is a delight and a must try restaurant. Definitely my favourite in Hamilton. The dishes are beautifully prepared with delicious flavour, each one unique. Staff are friendly, informative and excited to talk about their food. The Causa Limena is one of my favourite dishes. Others are Yucas Freitas, empanada, Lomo Salgado, Pollo Saltado and of course, churros to finish. I look forward to sampling all of the other dishes.

While visiting Canadian friends with some friends from home, we had mostly group activities, but one day was a free day to spend doing things with one’s home host or hostess. At mid-afternoon on that day, we went to Locke Street. We'd used it in the comings and goings all week.

I always knew when we were traveling Locke Street because we'd go by a lot of historic churches and antique dealer shops.

Some of the more historic churches included Locke Street Presbyterian Church (1886), Saint John the Evangelist Anglican Church (1891) which was my friend's church, Saint Joseph's Roman Catholic Church (1893), Herkimer Street Baptist Church (1897), and Immanuel Congregational Church (1897).

Some of the dealers included J Taylor Antiques, Locke Street Antiques, Antiques On Locke, Olive's Oddments, and The Antique & Collectible Superstore were some that we browsed.

Locke Street is also home to other types of shops and restaurants.

Parts of Locke Street are quite trendy.

Locke Street is definitely an area to visit for shopping, dining, and admiring architecture of 1800's churches and buildings from the Victorian Era.

We rate Locke Street at 4.50 and recommend a visit.

I spend several hours per week on trendy Locke street watching the hipsters walk by with their designer dogs and babies. Many shops and restaurants serving gluten free goods of all types. Also lots of coffee and pizza shops. Definitely the best street in town for people watching

We loved their lox and cream cheese bagels. Bagels were delicious and so was there cream cheese 😀...bagels were great too. Yummy biscotti! They moved from Lock street in Hamilton to Stoney Creek in March 2014. Three months ago it said closed for renovations and now it says the place is up fot lease again. So sorry to see them closed.

Locke street is a favourite place of mine and is a perfect way to spend a weekend or afternoon.

There are many various types of unique shops, from antiques, music and of course food!

Be sure to stop at the bakery for some fresh baked treats!

I really really wanted to love the Locke St area in Hamilton as I love to shop and dine in funky old buildings with loads of character. So I visited the street and was sad to find only a handful of interesting shops; many of which are closed on Mondays; some on Tuesdays as well. There needs to more to draw crowds to this area. My neighbour had brought her visitor from Europe there and he was so disappointed he spent the entire time sitting in a restaurant waiting for them to return from exploring. I bought very little but I do hope more stores will open up and revitalize this area as it has lots of potential. For me, it just didn't offer enough.

Lots of quaint shops, very few chains. Very much a neighbourhood shopping area, people are friendly, many new one another. Was a pleasant street to browze for an afternoon

I enjoy the antique stores, coffee shops and artisan chocolate boutique...However, my experience with the hair salons there has been a disaster. What concerns me the most is that they practice different standards to their regular customers from the new customers. Both salons I visited have been in business for a reasonably long time and they are very friendly with their regular customers, mostly from their neighbourhood. The first one, Lori's Hair Salon, the owner not only failed my hair colour job, she did not even both to rinse my hair thoroughly and left large amount of filthy chemicals all over my hair. Both salons used cheap ingredients which produced overwhelming odour and lasted over one month. The other salon used cheap ingredients for my first hair colour visit as well and the smell lasted about one month. The owner used better quality ingredients for my second visit and he admitted that he used different ingredients in the first time. There are obviously areas for improvement on business ethics and business culture so that the businesses can be more inclusive and don't rip new customers off. Bad apples can cause damages to the entire business environment of the street.

We always enjoyed our outings in this great neighbourhood especially when planning to have a bite. Great restaurants are found here along with some good shops. For frequent visitors however the shops don't change much. The two best ones however are Pure Home Couture and Citizen Kid.
