The wines were not to our taste. The good thing was that there is no tasting fee. The only had 4 wines on tasting so you won't be there long.

Days of Wine and Chocolate

What better way to spend a weekend in February than enjoying the many wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake at a festival like Days of Wine and Chocolate :) Maleta is a quaint place with great service. Their wines were decent and they had a cute little sitting room for us to enjoy our food/wine. I'd be interested to return for their sip and sizzle festival in February to see what they have up their sleeve :)

Disappointed
nov. 2015
I was here years ago and purchased wine here. We were so disappointed with their choice for taste of the season. The 2006 cab Merlot was terrible and the closest I have tasted to a wine that was like vinegar. Out of the 4 of us none could even say it was ok. That being said, we were there for the taste of the season and the Moroccan lamb was amazing.

A hidden gem!

A friend and I visited Maleta Estate Winery today as a part of the 2015 taste the season event.
We were treated to two different wines, a 2008 Riesling and a 2016 Cabernet Merlot.
Also a dish of Moroccan lamb tagine and couscous. The woman who served us was the one who cook the food and we had a lovely chat with her about recipes and she was very friendly and nice. This winery I have passed many times and I barely saw it because it is down off the side of the road in a bit of a valley - if you didn't know it was there you could easily miss it. It is small, and not as impressive to look at as some of the other 35 wineries in the Niagara region however, we really enjoyed the wine and the experience.

Excellent Wines

Niagara-on-the-Lake apparently has a bigger attraction than the Niagara Falls itself, the "wineries." Maleta Estate Winery is one of the oldest wineries in the region, located on Queenston Road heading into Niagara-on-the-Lake off of QEW highway. The owner himself is an excellent winemaker, most of his wines have won numerous awards over the years. The reds are among the best I have tasted in the region, especially their 2007 Meritage. Their Cabernet Franc icewine is the lowest priced one you can find around, yet it can easily compete with the more expensive ones. The winery was converted from a house back in the 90's, their two-car garage is the tasting room, watching the sunset from the patio overlooking the 17 acre vineyard is a treat. Wine tasting is free, unless you want to taste the icewine or take a tour. They are open everyday during summer and closed on Mondays in the winter months. It is advisable to call ahead if you are planning to go as a large group.

A Pale Shadow of A Great Winery
aug. 2015
We have enjoyed many of this wineries award wining Riesling and Meritage wines over the years and were somewhat disappointed during our visit today - ours was the only vehicle in the parking lot; window blinds down even though the "Open" sign was in the window. The young gentleman who suddenly appeared looked as if woke up suddenly. We asked for and received tasting of Riesling. No product information or knowledge was shared with us. As a matter of fact, the only other word he mentioned was "Meritage" when we asked him what other tastings he had. Sadly, the 2008 Riesling was a bit "off" while the four bottles of Meritage will be taken home and layer down to enjoy at a later date.

Washroom was filthy. On any future visits to the NOTL area, we'll remember what a fine winery this once was but will not go back but will instead support those wineries that are happy to share their knowledge and wine samples.
