This is a hard review to write as seeing chimps in the wild is certainly a once in a lifetime experience. However I question the ethics of the experience.

For starters, despite being split into smaller groups (10-12 people), all groups were tracking the same family of chimps, and when after an hour we spotted them it was like a stampede of elephants chasing them down. The second thing that really annoyed me is that despite masks being mandatory, it wasn’t enforced with guests standing mere metres from the chimps with just a chin guard on.

For that reason I can not recommend the experience despite how amazing it was to see chimps in the wild.

Our small group of six stood looking at an Alpha Male Chimp sunning himself for about 25 minutes, high up in a tree very close to the Visitor Centre. I asked the armed ranger whether this would be our hour-long experience, and she smiled, shrugged and said we must be patient. Then the chimp swung it's way down the tree and set off through the jungle, and our group followed.

The chimp hopped on to a wooden walkway, and we all scrambled on behind him. Then he just turned round, and walked through our little group. What a moment! A little scary, but unforgetable.

We followed him up an a track, and watched him climb a tree and resume his sun bathing. Then we saw a female with a baby chimp nearby, again, high up a tree.

All in all, wonderful experience, and so highly recommended. Such a privilege.

Great guide named Bosco . He has years of experience finding the chimpanzees and their families. We were lucky to observe a group of females and babies grooming themselves.

Jessica found many chimps for us - in trees, on ground, eating, walking, standing, communicating by pounding on tree trunks and making vocal noises. This trek was a highlight for our group of 6.

We did the chimpanzee trek during the rain which added to the experience!!
Our guide was very knowledgeable and did not give up on locating the chimps.
The walk itself was fairly easy but the vines make it difficult so you need to watch where you are walking.

It was amazing to see the family of chimps and we were able to spend a fair amount of time observing them.

We did the habituation rather than the hour long and we were glad we did. I believe the hour long can be more crowded.
There were 5 of us and one guide (who was amazing!). First we trekked and saw the chimps in the trees and then we got to watch them close up and personal. In the second part (close up :) ), there was one other group there who left shortly after we got there so we spent time along with them. The experience is incredible. CHimps chill and close to you, others hanging from the trees, playing etc.
I loved this more than the gorillas!!!

The Kanyanchu Visitor Center is ground zero for all tourist activities in Kibale National Park. In case you didn’t know, a permit is required for chimp tracking in Uganda, arranged in advance by your tour operator. Keep in mind that during peak season these can sell out quickly, sometimes months in advance. At the Visitor Center, you’ll be placed into small groups, assigned a Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) guide, and given a short briefing. We then drove to the actual start of the trek which is nearby. Once our chimp family was located by the trackers, we had a front row seat to observe the chimps rest, eat, interact, and even groom each other. It was fortunate that the chimps were on the ground and not just in the trees. When the chimps moved, we followed! Our UWA guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, ensuring that everyone got a good view and even assisting with photos (thank you!). Afterwards, we returned to the Visitor Center to receive a Chimpanzee Tracking Certificate. What an adventure! Do not miss this opportunity in Kibale, said to be the best place in the world for chimpanzee tracking.

A bucket list item that didn't disappoint! The guides go out of their way to make sure you can see and take pictures of the chimpanzees and share their knowledge with guests.

We were so lucky to come across a group of Chimps very soon after beginning our trek. To see them in the wild was magical. The guides were excellent
