I have been coming to
Kundalila falls for over 50 years. The falls are wonderful and well worth a visit with stunning views across the Luangwa valley. There are two problems: firstly, the approach road from Serenje has deteriorated significantly and needs 4WD. Secondly, we collected 3 bags of litter from the waterfalls path. Bottles, cans, sweets, packets. The campsite too is heavily littered. Given that I paid 720 kwacha to stay in the campsite for one night, why can the attendant not walk and clear the waterfall path twice a week? Given that there have been no campsite improvements since my last visit in 2019, I wonder where these campsite ‘fees’ are going? Certainly not towards the maintenance of this wonderful site…come on, you can do better!!

There is a board on the left of road from Sereje to Mpika(T2) to direct you to the side road towards the falls. The falls are almost 20 km inside, on a good dirt road. There is a permanent camp of Northern Circuit (I think) just a kilometer before the Kundilila camping grounds.Day visitors have to pay fee and then you are own your own.The narrow path is interesting with the river flowing on right and the
green vegetation on rocky cliff on your left.
As you approach the viewing platform you will be able to see most of the waterfall except the base.I think its possible to trek to the base but we did not try it as one needs time for such activity.
The view is magnificient and the falls are really nice .One can see almost 100 kms far into the valley and barely make out the path the river takes(in rainy season)
As one approachs the falls there are points where one can have a dip in the river in natural surroundings(not sure if its bilhazaria free) or enjoy a picinc .

From Serenje (about an hour and a half's drive), we did a day trip to Kundalila Falls. When we turned off the main road, it felt like the dusty, bumpy track was never going to end but it added to the feel of being in the middle of nowhere having found a hidden gem. We had some frustration when we arrived as we are residents in Zambia so paid a K8 p.p entry fee, however the people we travelled with were tourists and were asked to pay a K240 p.p entry fee! This really didn't seem fair.
You start at the top of the falls with stunning views, you can see for miles. There is only one small part of the track that has a railing (not good if you have kids) which meant after that you could climb up on the rocks as close as you dared to the edge! Then a short hike down to the bottom of the waterfalls. As we went during the middle of rainy season the falls were in full flow and it was very impressive! It is safe to swim in the pool at the bottom so we went for a dip, although the water was very fast flowing, it was more like a cold jacuzzi. I can imagine it being more peaceful when there is less water, but it was good fun none the less! We had a picnic on the rocks at the bottom before hiking back up to the car. If you have the opportunity to visit Kundalila Falls, it is well worth it!

On a recent road trip to Kasanka, we decided to spend a night at Kundalila Falls. We did not expect much in the way of facilities, but were pleasantly surprised. A neat and tidy little camping ground with spotless clean toilets. (no showers) The caretaker was very friendly, and the fee for spending the night was very reasonable. The falls itself is very pretty. I would urge you to take the walk down to the bottom of the falls. It is worth the climb back up. All in all definitely worth turning of the main route.

You can see the falls from the top as well as from the down. Down is the best, but you have to do a short hike as you return to your car.

Kundalila is a beautiful waterfall just north of Serenje, 13ks of the main road on a good gravel road. The view from top of the falls is spell binding with rolling hills and trees. The falls is quite deep, but graded. You could walk all the way down to the falls and swim there, though I have not done that. Facilities in the area are minimal, but camping at the falls is permitted

This is a short hike...on the way down...;) A bit tough coming back up. Probably about 1/2 mile in total. There is some beautiful views as you change in elevation from above the Falls down through the woods to the bottom of the falls. Great vantage point at bottom to see and photo Kundalila as well as get your feet wet in the cold water.

The falls itself are really nice and the path that goes down to it is pleasant. We had a nice time down the falls, we did not swim in it but it might be possible (better to ask confirmation at the "reception").

We stayed at the camping of the falls, or kinda camping. It is just basically a nice open spot with hut to eat under. But the ablutions are terrible: long drop toilets which are really dirty and shower which were closed as it did not work.

It is quite pricy as well: 15$ for the falls and 15$ for the camping, all of that per person. Feel free to negotiate that.
