We didn’t go with plans of doing what you can do anywhere in St Maarten, sitting on a beach. Instead, we chose to explore and hike around the island. It was fantastic! Put on some good shoes, bring a snack and some water and enjoy the scenery and views. A highlight of our trip, had an incredible afternoon walking all over the island.

Un îlet naturel avec une touche touristique.
L’aventure commence par un tour de chaloupe de luxe accompagné d’un excellent service. Le trajet dure a peu près 5a 7minutes.
Dès qu’on franchi la moitié du trajet, la beauté du paysage.
Il est possible de vous balader dans la nature de l’île et de contempler la beauté et la nature.
Pour finir, on profite de cet îlet pour se faire bronzer et se rafraîchir dans les eaux turquoises.
Côté Yellow beach, profitez du resto pour vous offrir un succulent mérou burger.

Pinel Island was a fun part of our vacation. We took the ferry over and then walked over the hill following an easy to see path, about 10-15 minutes to the other undeveloped side of the island away from the restaurants and family swimming area. The other side is very open to the elements (Sun and wind) so you have to bring some shade, water, and some snacks. The remote side was a little rough to swim and it was difficult to enter the water due to waves and rocks. Not the best for swimming as it can be rough. We did go nude on this side and there were several couples and a family with teen aged kids as well all enjoying no clothing sunbathing and beach fun. Please if you think your kids or spouse will self combust and be damaged for life if they see people nude dont take the hike over the island to the undeveloped side. If you are good with people in their skin and you want to join in it was a good time and worth the trip over...
The side you arrive at on the ferry has two restaurants, both very good, bathrooms, shade, chairs to rent, and a nice calm flat bay to swim in. Great for families with kids, no nudity is allowed here and its a great time for all!

The ultimate Beach/Bar hang out. We were at The Yellow Beach. The pizza was good. Pina Coladas even better. Beach was great. Also hiked around the island. Its worth the 10 minute boat ride

You can stay in the bay where you get dropped off and see seagrass and fish, but if you go around the rocks to the left, you'll get to the real reefs. I saw it all, sea fans, tons of fish, sea urchins, soft corals and hard corals. Some corals were filter feeding and healthy. Saw Elkhorn, fire, brain corals, some quite large. Highly recommend! My only problem was at yellow Beach when two Americans were being HELLA loud!! Kinda ruined the vibe, but they finally shut up and back to beauty. Staff at yellow Beach were super helpful and not pushy at all.

Very nude! Also - you DO need cash. Tips, ferry ride, etc. we got by, but we’re not prepared. Food was decent, prices pretty high. Pretty beach - mostly because of the view of the island!

personnellement je n'ai pas été plus emballé par cette île. Certain diront que je suis dure mais l'île est sympa mais il n'y a rien à faire et il y a juste 2 restaurants et 1 boutique. En effet pour les gens qui aime se prélasser sur les plages et boire un verre dans l'eau cet endroit est top mais perso ce n'est pas mon délire, j'aime nager, faire du snorkeling. Sur les livres et sites que j'ai pu lire, on y vantait les mérites d'une eau cristaline mais le jour où j'y étais l'eau était trouble et en plus il y avait des sargasses donc rien d'agréable pour la baignade.
Sinon pour y aller nous y sommes allés en navette 10€ l'aller-retour par adulte, gratuit pour les enfants.
Comme indiqué précédemment, il y a 2 restaurants sur l'île, nous y avons bu des cocktails et ils étaient bons

Loved this little gem! It’s beautiful and a fun atmosphere with gorgeous clear water! My kids loved feeding the iguanas and we bought some fun things at the island shop!

The boat ride across leaves you with great anticipation as do the reviews
The snorkelling is unrewarding
The beach is ok $25 dollars for an umbrella and two chairs
One restaurant was closed the other started with a K and had only one vegetarian option
If you are not a vegetarian the menu was quite full

Rave reviews lead me to look forward to this trip to the island but it was disappointing. Snorkelling poor - saw hardy anything despite roaming around. Expensive restaurant and no more than a sandy bay for swimming. If that’s what you want you will be pleased. If not, don’t bother.

How difficult is it to get a taxi to return back to the cruise port? We were going to do this as an excursion then figured it would be cheaper to go out on our own.

Very hard to get a taxi back unless you pre-strange it with the driver. Renting a car was reasonably priced and a simple drive. It’s a very small island.

There is a dock on the shore across from Pinel. It’s $12/person round trip. There are also kayaks available to rent if you want to do that.

Jack K is spot on... I'm not aware of any direct ferry from St. Barths to Pinel Island. Alas... because I thought Pinel Island was pretty cool... I wish I was back there now!

We will be in SXM next week and would like to do this island as a day trip. Questions: can we do snorkeling from the shore here? The restaurant on the island, is it good for lunch? Are there enough beach chairs and umbrellas? Where do we keep the valuables such as a wallet and cameras while we are in the water?

Not sure on the snorkeling, but plenty of beach chairs and you can basically sit in the sand and surf. Food is good, nice place for lunch. We had a view of our items at all times as well, it was very safe there. Only way to the island was with a water taxi or if you kayaked yourself there. Not alot of people there at one time. Super nice place to spend an afternoon!

We zijn één dagje in Sint Maarten tijdens onze cruise en zouden graag nara Isle Pinel gaan.
Kunnen we dit zelf boeken als we van het schip komen ?

No booking required. Get a taxi as you depart the ship, have them take you to Cul de Sac to catch the ferry to Pinel Island, pay the ferry fee (I believe it's 10 euro round-trip) and ensure you have a return taxi lined up to take you back to the ship. The ferry to and from Pinel leaves every 30 minutes or so.
