We would have loved to visit inside as their work was evident throughout the island . The building itself was what caught our attention and the various pieces they were working on outside . However it was obviously a working environment and the sign made it clear it was not a tourist attraction. So this was respected and we politely passed by . I think there is some confusion due to the boat trips touting it as an attraction which it is not . We were not ably to book a tour round which previous reviewers have , so maybe clarify this first if it is your reason for visiting.

Attempted to visit yesterday. One of the doors was open but a sign in red warned tourists not to go in through that door. The other door was closed with no signage as regards opening times. We asked what we assumed was a local gentleman. He told us the school was on the first floor and to go up the stairs inside the open door. However we weren’t happy to do this as we felt it is a working school and tourists cannot be the main priority. We tried going on to their website and it said it was open until 3pm (this was at 1pm). An Australian couple arrived and also tried to establish times etc. The Australian man ventured up the stairs and was met by a man who told him that was not a tourist entrance but walked away when asked where the correct entrance was. I have since read a review that said times were clearly displayed and showed a photo of them… but such signs were not on display yesterday. Shame. This was somewhere I really wanted to visit.

We booked the stonemason tour and found it extremely poor value for money. I think we paid about 35 or40 euros. The tour was all of 2 sentences from the most disinterested student ever for less than 5 minutes. We gathered zero information from this interaction. We looked around ourselves for longer. I was really disappointed and felt ripped off. I wouldn't recommend you wasting your money and would avoid. I emailed them twice to complain but there was no response. Really poor and awful experience. We had to hire a taxi especially to come here and really wish we hadn't bothered.

We were told that this school was founded in 1909. We were given a talk by three of the first year students and shown their work and the tools they use for different purposes. You could see the differences between the more senior stonemasons work and the less experienced and the students demonstrated some of the techniques they use for cutting and levelling the stone. They use traditional methods to start their training with manual wrought tools. Brac stone from there has been used to renovate the Diocletian’s palace in Split and amongst other places the White House in Washington. The students were expecting a visit from us and were very friendly and knowledgeable with very good English.

I cannot understand the previous comment about the school being rude when the lady tried to walk in while it was shut. The notice is not as crappy bit of paper - it is large, clear and in Croatian and English. It says very clearly when the opening hours are and the charge. I assume she just doesn't like anyone saying no to her. This school is so professional - but it is a school. Of course you can't just walk in.

Unfortunately a very disappointing experience
When we disembarked our cruise ship the building of the school was the first thing that caught our attention. At this time we didn’t know that it is a school and we wanted to have a quick look inside. When we entered the building we were approached by a very young man, most probably one of the students (?) who in an aggressive manner asked us if we had not read the sign on the door that there was an entry fee.
We had not even seen the little paper note he referred to and of course haven’t read it. He was very rude and accused us of deliberately having ignored it which was such an unwelcoming approach we’ve never experienced before. One must not be so disrespectful like this young chap if one wants to attract tourists and is representing an institution like this.
My husband is 71 years of age and has never encountered such a disrespectful approach.
We believe that the art of stonemasonry in the school is worth a visit but the way this guy told us to “bugger off” made this an unforgettable upsetting experience.

We rented a car for the day and made our way to Pucisca to check out the stonemasonry school. A newly graduated student met us and for 20 kuna per person (kids were free) we were allowed to walk around and check out the school. It would have been nice to have a quick introduction with some information about the school and how they create their art work but the student was happy to answer our questions. All in all it was worth a visit if you are driving around the island.

An amazing hour spent at the Stonemasonry school in Pucisca, learning about the traditional methods with only hand tools. The limestone here is used all around the world including the Vatican and the White House. A must stop if you are in Pucisca.

Really a cool place to visit. We were sent here by taxi Pesa and grestful for the tip. The stuff these folks made out Brac lime stone is incredible. All the products are very good priced. We purchase a few jewelry boxes and love them. I highly recommend coming here for a visit.

The visit to the stonemason school also gives you the opportunity to appreciate the lovely setting of the nearby village. Some of the finished items on display are real works of art and it is interesting to see how a block of stone gradually gets refined down to the finished article. The students themselves are occasionally hammering at their work but that in itself is not particularly interesting.
