I thought the view from the parking area was better than close up. A gentleman requested $2 to enter and said there were 2 falls, I just went to the large one which was pretty much mist by the time it reach the pool at the bottom. Nice hike, roads a little rough getting there.

10/6/2022 the trail to the waterfall was easy, took us under 20mins. We’re in our late 30s mid 40s, active couple. They trail was pretty dry, but could be slippery after rainfall. Got there around 8am and literally no one else in sight, had the entire waterfall to ourselves for 30mins. It took us 12-15mins to trek back to our car, we just light jogged back. Now, getting to the trail: drove down a very rocky, bumpy “residential” road (drive slow). There’s no sign that’ll say where to park so we drove down to the end of the road and parked behind a white Jeep. Did not have to pay any parking fee. I’m not sure if that was ok but since we were there early enough no one else was driving on that road and we weren’t going to stay at the waterfall for too long. As we were mid way out to the main road we saw a few hikers/locals walking towards the entrance and didn’t see any other cars driving in so I don’t think we were suppose to drive to the entrance. My advice is to go early 730-8am, get in and out quietly and enjoy the waterfall to yourselves.

Yvette was an amazing guide, Her knowledge about the Polynesian culture/the flora/the history of all the islands was excellent/superb. The majority of the hike is through the rainforest and there are lots of stops to see different fruit trees/plants. We managed to see an extremely rare mushroom - we felt very privileged to be able to see this, and it was absolutely beautiful. The hike goes through Yvette’s garden where she is currently growing lots of different fruits and trees. The waterfall is beautiful to see and the cool swim is very welcome after an incredibly hot and humid climb! The hike finishes back at Yvette’s garden where fresh fruit and home made fruit drink had been prepared for us all. Dried, grated coconut that has been mixed with vanilla is used to roll your fruit in - the flavour combination is absolutely delicious. We also tried some homemade pumpkin dessert - this was one of the best things we have tried yet.
Top tips:
Insect repellent - this is an essential. You will be eaten to death by the mosquitoes without it!
Footwear - you need a pair of shoes with a good sole. Sandals and flip flops are not suitable for this hike. We wore trainers and these were perfect.
Water - the hike can be quite steep in some places and it is extremely humid too, you will need to hydrate
Beach towel - so you can dry yourself after the swim in the waterfall
Quick dry clothes - we didn’t bring a spare set of clothes but we wore shorts/top that were quick drying over our swimwear

The entrance is by the hospital. Do not use google map as it will direct you to a different dual waterfall route where your entrance is by the pool ice station. That route has two problems: one, not all time with water; two, after you walk like 20 30 mins and almost reached the waterfall, there is a darker skin topless guy claims that the whole mountain is his property and you need pay $1 or $2 to get in. He is very rude. We first followed google and went there and didn’t have any cash, and he forced us to leave. We actually went to the police station just by the corner to report him. Police said this guy has mental issue and the land in under dispute. And the police was actually so nice to drove in front of us and showed us the way to this waterfall. And there was a local guy he led us to his house which is also a restaurant, and there is a big area for parking. We parked there and hiked to the waterfall. One way is about 45mins. Not easy but not hard either. Do not recommend hiking when raining cos it will be extremely slippery. There are a few spots are narrow and kinda nerve racking. Most of the time you are under shade and easy walk. I do recommend a walking stick which makes the day and night difference. I found a tree branch which served as a perfect walking cane. I left by the entrance to whoever to grab ;) you don’t need to join the guided tour if you just wanna go to the waterfall. We met a group at the waterfall and they said the guide showed them plants and some history etc. guess if you are interested in knowing more than just hiking to the waterfall you can pay extra for a tour. But we didn’t and we will have a lot of fun :)

Comme tout ce qui n’est pas associé à une activité commerciale et pécuniaire, aucune indication et on se retrouve vite désabusé... quand à l’excuse d’éviter l’affluence, j’ai du mal à y croire. dommage et regrettable

Nice hike, but expect lots of mosquitos! You should park at the school, as the road beyond is not in good condition. Trail condition is good, but wearing good shoes is recommended. Not a trail for flip flops. You will pass through the village and farms with bananas before entering an area with trees. Some signs for the trail were missing, but we fortunately had the map downloaded.

I read quite a few reviews that I felt like made this hike seem pretty easy. We went about 8am and parked at the school so we didn’t have to deal with any parking issues. You then walk through the neighborhood straight back for about a mile until you hit the jungle... it’s hot it’s humid and I swear no one has hiked that trail in a year. We had to climb over and under trees. My shoes tore my feet up. Like chewed them up and spit them out before we even got to the waterfall. Once you’re at the water fall or lack there of being that we had no rain on our trip. Be ready for the bugs. We sprayed ourselves down and then it was no problem. It is the jungle after all. Wear good shoes!!! I wore my water/hiking shoes and they are just not made for humidity lol 2.5 miles round trip.
