Super friendly car park people. It made a really nice difference (discussing the walks with the lady at the toll entrance) to our coastal path walking holiday.

A great place to walk along the Jurassic coast with some amazing views of the bay. The walk from Kimmeridge towards Chapmans pool is especially scenic - and if you have the time and energy - then to hike up to Swyre Head offers stunning views on both sides (you can see Poole harbour and Corfe Castle from the top).
Kimmeridge bay has great rock pools and fossils so go when the tide is out.

If you are curious about nature, geology and love to hunt for fossils then you really need to go here.
We were excited and thrilled to be walking along a coastline that so blatantly had so much to offer. We had spent a few days in the area and this by far was the most enjoyable for us. To see so many millions of years spread before us, lots of fossils at every step.
A lovely walk with great views along the cliff top as well towards the oil pump. We were hoping for a great sunset, but sadly it wasn't to be on the day we visited.
The monument stands proudly on the other clifftop, however we didn't have time to go up to see it.
Beware, there were small flakes of slate falling from the cliffside so don't stand too close. But there is plenty of room to look between the cliffs and sea. Obviously be aware of the tide.
And yes you need to pay £5 to park on the estate car park, which isn't expensive in our opinion. Take a picnic and breath in the history.

A few areas of steep climbing and narrow paths but worth the ocean views and exercise! There were cows along the way as well as lots of blackberries to snack on along the way. September was the perfect month to walk along the south coast pathway.

OPEN so finally got to walk the section from Kimmeridge to Lulworth and oh boy is it magnificent. Beautiful sunny day Dorset Coast seen at its very best. Kimmeridge Bay itself is a beautiful little spot and paying £5 for all day parking is well worth it.

Parking here is £5 - which for a day in such a lovely spot I don't consider excessive. There was a well maintained road leading to it, and public toilets - which were acceptable. There was a small snack bar/ice-cream booth - but we didn't use it so can't comment on the quality. There is only a very narrow stretch of beach if the tide is in, but evidence of fossils are easily seen. Walking either side of the bay is strenuous, but definitely worth it for the views! Interesting museum about the surrounding sea.

Yet another attractive but not too demanding section of the SWCP with Kimmeridge Bay (reached via a toll road for vehicles) and Clavell Tower plus some great views.

Some have wrote that the car park was expensive. what they failed to see was the price of £5.00 is for the use of the toll road across the Smedmore Estate and down to the bay Kimmeridge is a wonderful unspoiled part of the coast and well worth the £5.00
And I was so pleased to find two small fossils on my visit.

The main car park is expensive. The Smedmore Estate presumably uses the car-park charges to keep the facilities going. We parked in the free quarry car park on the way down to Kimmeridge then walked down the steep field, past the churchyard, past the Etches museum and followed the road down to the coast. At other times we've walked there along the coastal path from Tyneham, past the fascinating nodding donkey - Britain's first oil well, apparently. We went round the magnificent Clavell Tower during Architectural Heritage week. You can stay there overnight. Book via the Landmark Trust (but do so 2 years in advance!) The Dorset Wildlife Trust Marine Centre is interesting with its sea pool and informative displays. In the bay the intrepid watersport enthusiasts provided additional entertainment but really this is a place to wonder at the amazing Jurassic coast itself. The free quarry parking is a real boon to walkers, even if it is a very steep return journey. The best approach, however, is to walk there via the south west coastal path.

You can search fit fossils on the beach, but not touch the cliffs as they are dangerous. it is popular with snorkelling people and families Werth small children. I am not a fan that people take their dogs on the beach. You pay for the Carpark.
