If you want to get in close contact with monkeys that don't bother you, this is the place. You can sit on a bench with some monkeys sitting next to you. I could spend hours there watching them. I can recommend to take the little train, it saves you time and a hike going uphill in hot weather.

I visited this place with my husband and my son in February. The tour service is provided to all visitors and it is optional. They can walk into the place and enjoy the scenery especially in the morning and evening.
For the animal lover, they can feed the macaques which are always welcoming them on the hill.

Enjoy the journey to up the hill with a tramp at a cost of only RM3 for adult. This place has its own historical site. There are several attractions on this hill. It’s not just about enjoying the beautiful scenery. There is a history museum about kuala selangor, cannon, cultural sites, slabs, poisonous wells, traditional game museums and lighthouses. Do visit all these historical places up there, don't just take pictures and go. You will learn about something. Just beware of the monkeys. There so many of them.

Bukit Melawati is located right in Kuala Selangor. You can't drive up but there are ample car parking space close by. An easy walk up and you can enjoy the view. Just be careful with the monkeys... They can come in big groups once they notice people around. The lighthouse has been there since 1907 but unfortunately it was not accessible.

Bukit Malawati used to be my fave place when I was small. I finally visited this place yesterday after decades. Not much of change can be observed, still serene and scenic place with heaps of monkeys! Some elderly believed the hill belongs to the Elves (orang bunian) hence visitors should not do any inappropriate acts when at the hill.
Bukit Malawati (Malawati Hill) is hilltop fortress built by one of the Sultans of Selangor in the 1700s to fight the invasion of the Dutch. Some interesting war relics such as cannons that overlook the Straits of Malacca, a lighthouse, an executioners stone, a poisoned well and royal graves can be found here. There are a lot of very cheeky, playful and curious monkeys too at the top of the hill that would steal your heart... and your food :)
Get a tramp to the top of the hill for only RM3 for adult. This historical site is about 62km from Kuala Lumpur and can be reached in an hour and a half by car.

We visited Monkey Hill as the second stop of our "monkey feeding, fireflies & blue tears experience" with Jalan with M.K. We drove straight up and parked at the top of the hill as was after 5pm on a monday.
Melawati Hill (Monkey Hill) is home to the silver leaf monkeys (black fur) who roam around this lighthouse viewpoint. Unlike the long-tailed macaques (gray fur) that can be quite aggressive and mischievous, the silver leaf monkeys (black fur) are actually really friendly and the babies, covered in orange fur, are super cute.
Locals are there with bags of locally grown vegetables for you to purchase at 10MYR per bag to feed the monkeys, which we highly recommend. The bags are large but the monkeys soon eat through all the food! The monkeys liked the green leaves and bananas, but sweet potato definitely seemed to be the favourite! the peanuts they would only eat after everything else had already been eaten. We were here another 30 minutes or so. Feeding the monkeys was an experience! be prepared for them to climb all over you as you start to feed them! we got some amazing photos. Some hilarious ones too as they jumped on our shoulders! lol Seeing the babies was an added bonus, and we were the only tourists so had the monkeys all to ourselves! I could have spent ages here watching the monkeys interact, but we had to move on with our tour.

It was a very easy walk to the summit - 5-1o minutes only - and a nice walk, with impressive trees, the lighthouse and, of course, the monkeys - who were really gentle. Bought bags of veg. for RM10 from the sellers there. Really enjoyed our visit.

Interesting place visited.
Situated on top of a hill which we can view the coastal area of the river banks and the mangrove swamps nearby
The lighthouse is also situated on top of the hill
The excitement begins when lots of monkeys gathers around us. They are friendly. We could feed them with food sold there only for the monkeys
Remains of fire-guns tells us that it is use during the colonial period to protect the area.
Maps of the said Bukit Malawati, Kuala Selangor is well displayed for easy reference to visitors.

How much would it cost in taxi from kuala lumpur? We will be finishing our tour of Asia very soon and will be heading back to kuala lumpur for our flight back to the UK. We did this experience with the monkeys when we arrived but with a tour package which included batu caves and fire flies. We really want to visit bukit melawati again as we really enjoyed it. However we don't want to pay for a full tour package as we will have to be at the airport for late afternoon.
Any advice would be much appreciated :-)

Im not sure about price but it's 70km from Kuala Lumpur so about an hour each direction so depending on your flight time in the afternoon you may be cutting it close and it may be very expensive for that taxi! If you have all day then there are local buses that will take you right there for about 10 ringgit but it's about an hour and a half to two hours each direction. This is how I've gone each time to see the monkeys when I've been in KL :)

Why do people think it is positive to feed wild monkeys? if the get used to it then it they could attack humans who do not give them the food they like.

Also the animal is tame, and is not a problem
The problem monkey is the macaque which is a problem everywhere no matter if they are fed or not.
The Silverleaf monkey isn't a aggressive monkey so it's safe to feed

Suitable visiting time would be either morning and in the evening. If you go during the weekdays, you are allowed to drive on your own, but for weekends, visitors are mandatory to buy tram bus ticket.
Monkeys are there all the time, and we only have to find the most comfortable time of the day to play with them.
