Great views, interesting history, a few steps to get up but not hard, the carpark is under repair or renovation so walk to steps a bit longer than some would expect especially if impaired in some way as it's slightly up hill. Worth visiting though

Lovely family walk to a very interesting pa site. Well sign posted from Mair Park and a reasonable upward walk for about an hour. Our children (8 and 9) did the walk without any complaining! Under shade from the trees. Beautiful views from the top.

Good parking and quite a few easy steps to get up to the memorial and lookout area.
It is always good to get to a high spot in an area to get an appreciation of the layout of an area. This doesn't disappoint and has the bonus of information boards with the fascinating history of the mountain and the wonderful war memorial there.
There are walks through the bush around the area and you can also walk up to it from the riverside. Although, our visit was by car.
Thoroughly enjoyed the visit. It is a special place.

An excellent walk up from Mackesy Bush Track, connecting to Ross Track before the summit. Back via Dobbie Track [including side track to old pa site] and Mair Park. Good vistas from the top, and friendly people enroute. Well formed and maintained paths.

The high and best lookout place to see west and south of Whangarei region. You can reach this place, either by easy way by driving up to this place, or a bit exercise way by walking through, either Dobbie Track, or Drummond Track, from Whangarei River Walk Section 1C, or from Dundas Rd through Ross Track, all are roughly 40 -60 minutes walks. There is a war monument at the top, with history plaques, and the main destination from visitors is usually the Lookout. From here you can see Whangarei Region toward south and west direction. Truly picturesque views when the sun position is low. Anyway, whatever the time of visiting, it is always worth to come to this place.

This is a lovely place that includes great vista views as well a local war memorial dedicated to locals who fought in the war. Well worth a visit.

Don't be confused: from the Mair Park, it will take about 40 minutes to go up to the top (and not 40 meters as we wrongly thought LOL). Very nice walk throughout the park and great view when you finally make it to the top! Worth the walk and the calories (that you can easily get back when walking back to town!!!)

You can drive or walk (c. 60 minutes; different routes to choose from) to the top of Parihaka. If driving, the carpark is at the end of the road, unless in a camper van or bus. Then about 5 minutes climbing the steps to the top. A useful diagramma and legend are provided to help identify local features and locations. There are helpful panels to give historic background information. Well worth the effort. Not very wheelchair friendly, unfortunately.

This memorial offers a great view of the city. It's just a very short walk up from the car park. The gate is locked after certain hours, so please check the time if you get there late. There are also walking tracks around the area if you want a bit of exercise.
