We thought all these great pubs had disappeared, we were wrong. Fantastic venue, fantastic atmosphere, fantastic staff. We went here for the open fire. They got two of them!! Didn't realize there were great landlords and great pubs left. Will make it more often. Thank you guys! See you soon

Found this place by chance when walking in Epping Forest yesterday. Quality location, nice seating area/beer garden, tables all wiped down when people left. Bar staff fairly chirpy but not chippy. Only had a couple of drinks but we loved the visit

The only redeeming part of this pub is the view - I have never had such a bad experience before that I have left a bad review.
Terrible, slow service from the start - made no effort to serve according to queue, owner/boss was rude and clearly out of her depth even though it wasn't that busy. Then when one of our group wanted a cup of tea we were told it would "take too long" (?? I have made many cups of tea for customers in multiple restaurants/cafes, and it takes about 20 seconds. It is literally quicker to make tea than pour a pint)
My meal simply did not arrive after over an hour and a half, even after we checked it was on it's way. I had to leave eventually as I had a train to catch, and so did not have time to wait any further. When I informed the bartender, and eventually the owner/boss of this (I was completely polite and apologetic, by the way), I did not receive any apology whatsoever - worse, the owner/boss had a sarcastic reply!!
I cannot stress how low my standards are for service in a pub. I do not want to have someone be blatantly rude to me, and I do not want to wait over an hour and a half for my food not to come. I have literally never had such a poor experience. What is wrong with the owner? Me and my group were all polite, did not give any complaints at waiting so long, and were pleasant throughout. There were a couple other examples of sarcastic rudeness from the boss but im sure you get the picture!
I can only assume that they were understaffed, and happy to be rude knowing that we were visiting from London and probably would not come again. They were right in that respect, as I will not go there again, and hope you will not visit either until the boss learns basic manners.

To be honest I’m not normally one to write reviews but on this occasion I felt compelled!. After over an hour wait for a starter (with repeated inquiries) & then a further 45min wait for the main course of which one was missed of the order . Never-minding a further wait for one of our party to eat, in which time we were told “you should have come earlier” (baring in mind our table was booked for 4.00pm) and we arrived at 3.30pm… when the late meal arrived it really didn’t come up to par. So much so I did something that I have never ever done in any restaurant & asked for it to be taken off the bill. I was then asked to come to the kitchen to discuss with the chef. Where the chef proceeded to rip the meat up by hand, in a display of how easily the meat fell apart! In normal company we are not in the habit of pulling our food apart with our hands before eating, then the words “ we will take it off the bill coz the customers always wright”was snarled at me and that was that. Shame really but all I can say it there is a different & lovely pub up the hill that serve good food & good service. Worth the 5min extra walk.

We had a fantastic day at the gardeners arms yesterday, even though the weather was not great. We could see London from the terrace. Had skate wing cooked in blackened butter and capers , my friends had hand made burger and a vegan dish of baked tomatoes in a beautiful sauce and cauliflower in tempura batter with a vegan dip. The food was cooked to perfection. I had a superb pint of Guinness and my friends went for the Birra moretti . We had to move inside out of the rain wow and I mean wow the decor is spot on. The toilets where so clean too. The whole experience was floor less. We will definitely be back .

Had the most fabulous lunch yesterday at This stunning venue, excellent service along with an ice frosted glass for our wine. The food was simple amazing , our fish was so fresh you could almost smell the sea.

My sister and I stopped by for lunch and a pint today and we sat in the garden and enjoyed the beautiful views over London. We both ate the vegan burger which was delicious! A lovely, warm lady called Laura looked after us and made our visit just right so kudos to her. Haven’t been to this pub for many years but we’re glad we came back today.

Stunning location. Seduced by the views and hearty menu. ; unfortunately the experience sank quicker than The Titanic. Although we had pre-booked it took almost 2 hours for food to be served…. intermittently, food when it did arrive, was cold,( fish and chips) and missing main ingredients; salmon with scallops and mashed potatoes was served instead with a few garden lettuce leaves and a few slices of green pepper.
When paying a very expensive bill there was no apology or anything in way of a refund, such as free drinks for the two children, or acknowledgement of appalling service.
Won’t be back. Disappointed because it looks like they know what they are doing, but Fawlty Towers couldn’t come close.

A lovely pub in a fabulous location. Came in August for the first time when camping at Debden in a big group of 16. Great food and service. Returned today in family of five. Again great food and very welcoming staff and very reasonably priced. A real family atmosphere. Will definitely be coming back. Thank you.

A regular from the pub had a table for 4 'booked' for a Sunday lunchtime drink (to include myself) but when I arrived all the seats were taken despite us (and another regular who had booked a table for 6) having 'booked'. This pub has always been a success despite the management but it seems noww that they cant even organise a booking system properly which is required in these new times.
When enquiring of the young lady working there she merely replied that she doesnt do the bookings!!
The othere three or four pubs that I have been to after lockdown seem to be coping with this perfectly ok so why not here unless they are being greedy and doing first come first served and taking bookings?
Shant be rushing back.......
