Awesome Weekend

Great accommodation and lovely walks around Island. Saw baby Kiwi released which was very exciting to see up close and then to hear them at night, A very interesting and educational trip.

What an amazing place!!! We stayed for 3 days and could have quite happily stayed longer.
Milly & Glen are fantastic hosts, extremely helpful, full of knowledge regarding the history and wildlife that the Island has on offer. I'm very grateful for the experience :-) and thoroughly recommend !!!!

Friends weekend away.

I’d been to Rotoroa island on a day trip and loved the mixture of history, bird
Life, conservation, walks and beautiful beaches. We stayed in Mahoe cottage which had quirky 60s 70s decor and was immaculate, well stocked and warm. We heard kiwi and saw Saddleback, weka, Takahe etc from our windows. The ranger delivered our gear and took us on a tour. She was very passionate and well informed about the island and gave us clear instructions. We’ll be back and would recommend this piece of paradise to everyone.

Unexpected Heaven.

Absolutely amazing. A total gem in our very own waters.

Accommodation was amazingly clean with gorgeous views and extremely well appointed.

We booked a guide to tell us about the Island and this is a must. Millie, our guide was passionate about the Island and its future and possibly the best Guide we have experienced.

We had booked for a longer stay but Fullers timetable didnt coincide which was a shame as we could have spent more time exploring.

This Island is a must see.

Beautiful predator free Island in the Hauraki Gulf
mar. 2021 • Par
Leaving Auckland in the wake of the 60 minute ferry trip to beautiful Rotoroa induced a sense of calm and relaxation. The island managed and run by a trust has several easy walks to view points, and beaches suitable for swimming (Ladies bay has toilets, changing room and fresh water showers). With 400,000 natives being planted over a decade ago the island is being returned to its natural state. Staying the night allowed us to wake up to beautiful bird song and the sense we were a world away from the city. We booked and did the Guided walk (thank you Andrew) which was highly informative giving us a great account of the islands history and information of the the restoration project. The Weka, Saddlebacks, Tui and Fantails were easy enough to find the Takahe and Kiwi remained elusive. Several options for sleeping from booking a house to staying in the highly recommended Superintendents house (shared accommodation sleeping 18). If you are wanting to see a great range of birds then a day trip to Tiritiri Matangi is your best option, that said Rotoroa offers the chance to stay overnight listening and looking for Kiwi and has great history and is a real time restoration project. Thank you to all those involved allowing us the opportunity to visit.

Auckland hidden gem
feb. 2021
We stayed on the island as part of a swim group - O Swim - for 5 nights. Fantastic, homely accommodation, glorious island with your pick of bays around all sides. Within swimming distance of several close islands. Highlight had to be meeting Wilbur, Fyfe and Ratoroa - Dad, Mum and baby Takahe, and the singing saddlebacks as we wandered over the island trails. Booked again for next year

The best Island Holiday Right here
feb. 2021
We were a group of 21 on a Swim Retreat and stayed five nights in two houses, Super's House and Serenity. We have booked again for next year and the year after. Our experience was exceptional and our stay in the homes, very comfortable. The island is well presented and cared for by the permanent Rangers (husband and wife) and a team of rotating volunteers. They care deeply for the island's biodiversity, historical heritage, and its restoration, this is shown in the way the island is maintained and the welcoming of guests and visitors. The Rotoroa Island Trust has done an incredible job in creating this piece of paradise so close to the city. It's only an hour away by ferry for a day. visit or a weekend stay.

Awesome Time at Rotoroa
feb. 2021
This was our second stay on Rotoroa Island - two nights at Oranga, this time. It was again excellent. The pick up from the ferry, by Milly the Island Custodian was very welcome. The house was immaculate (far far cleaner than my own house). Excellent facilities. The torch with red cellophane in the kitchen, and tips on where to find the night life (little kiwis) was great. Our family of four (including the 17 and 11 year olds) absolutely love staying on Rotoroa. We always love checking in with the takahe, and enjoyed seeing their chick, but the weka are also a favourite.

A sanctuary for all
jan. 2021
We spent a day exploring the island and loved it. We walked to both the North Tower and then the South Tower and the views are spectacular.

There is so much birdlife on the island, all you need to do it just stand and then it will appear, some of it quite close.

We didn't swim, however others were and it seemed like the ideal way to cool off on a hot day.

There is a fountain at the exhibition centre, that you can use to refill water bottles and their is a small kiosk that sells natural feel good icecreams on a stick, made in Nelson.

You need to take all your rubbish with you and make sure that you check with the person who welcomes you from the ferry to the island about the return time as the information on fullers was incorrect and there is only one return ferry each day.
