Beautiful open space with good use outdoor and indoor. The village with the train all around created outside was fascinating for the kids.

Went to visit a couple of museums in Cobourg. And was so pleasantly surprised with this little gem. I had no idea about the history of Cobourg and the profound stories.
The staff was amazingly friendly and was excited to share all the history with us. They took their time to walk around with us.
Was a beautiful little place to visit !

As the title said, I still feel moved by the enthusiastic volunteers which they are proud of what they have done, where they are, and what Cobourg means in history. They put actions in to represent Cobourg and make I like this city and especially this place.
I hope I could have the same heart, the same spirit and the same effort to contribute in somewhere maybe my hometown like how the volunteers there do.
Thank you!

We love to visit the Sifton Cook Heritage Centre each summer. The kids enjoy the train track the most but we also enjoy the rest of the museum including the little kids area in the back. Great place to bring visitors from out of town, kids and history fans.

Thanks, Victoria, for your visit and review. It’s great to see families returning year after year and telling us it’s a « must-visit »! We hope children grow up wanting to visit museums wherever they go.

I was so pleasantly surprised with how enjoyable our visit to Sifton-Cook Heritage Centre was! The tour guide was absolutely fantastic - very engaging and great with kids. The little train model was so sweet! We really enjoyed this visit. I'm guessing we spent over an hour here, but our kids would have been happy to stay a little longer if we had more time. Great little museum! It's free to visit, but they appreciate donations as all their staff are volunteers.

Thanks, GlobeTrotterNL1, for your visit and review. I’m sure the guide enjoyed your visit as much as you did! We are a little off the beaten track in Cobourg so especially appreciate the help of our visitors and TripAdvisor in getting the word out.

Allow an hour to 90 minutes for this visit. We were greeted by an enthusiastic volunteer who gave us a tour of the place starting with the working outdoor model railway which is used to give a great overview of the Town's industrial past. this was followed by a short video inside the restored stone building whose origins are still uncertain. The inside of the building is used for temporary exhibits. This year it was all about buildings in the area. There is also a small cottage on the property and a very unassuming gift shop.
This is a little gem of a museum, only a few minutes walk from Victoria Hall, that is obviously kept going with a lot of love and devotion of volunteer time. It is well worth a visit for anyone who would like to learn more about the history of this small Ontario town.

Thanks for taking the time, not only to find us, but to review us as well. Trip Advisor is one of the very best ways to let people know of our “out of the way” treasure.
The volunteers appreciate your comments - enthusiastic visitors make all the difference for us!

We have gone to this museum of the Cobourg-Peterborough railroad with my two young sons (2 and 4) over the weekend and had a great time!
Fantastic mini-version of the railroad!
Everyone should check it out when in town!

Thanks for helping us spread the word. We really love having children and the energy they bring! I know the children will remember the railway, but there is lots more to see as we tell a different story each year of some aspect of our area’s heritage.

A small museum tucked away on a quiet street. Provides a lot of interesting history of early Cobourg and it’s connection with Peterborough Railway and the city of Peterborough. Although the original intent of the building is not known several theories are put forth.

Thanks for your review. TripAdvisor is a great way to let people know where we are, as you say, "tucked away".Excavations going on next door might help establish the buildings origins.
We are now closed until next May when all exhibits will be new. We hope to see you again.

This little museum is tucked out of the way but so charming it's worth the visit. They change the theme in the main exhibition area every year and focus on a part of the local history and the evolution impacting the area, country and globally. There is a model train that operates around the perimeter of the site with recreations of the landscape and villages on its' route. The house has a smaller display but focuses more on the antiques from the area that would have been used in the homes. It doesn't take a lot of time to go through all of the exhibits, but it is absolutely time well spent.
