The hike on the Hai Lake Trail from the trailhead parking lot one and a half kilometres off Beam Station Road was very enjoyable on this mostly sunny day in mid- September. The road off Beam Station road is quite rough with potholes and a very rough, steepish hill just before the parking lot at the trailhead, with large rocks and ruts from a washout. The Hai Lake Trail meanders through an old growth forest of tall evergreens and is quite steep in sections and rooty. The trail is well worn and packed with no muddy sections. There are a couple little boardwalks over wet areas. The trail leads through a very parklike, mossy old growth forest with little underbrush where you can see far into the tall trees that are spaced apart. The trail angles uphill for about half a kilometre and then descends down half a kilometre to the little kilometre long pristine lake. It takes roughly half and hour in and half an hour out of the kilometre long trail to the lake. You can walk another kilometre or so around the lake if you so desire. There is a rope swing on the west bank that propels you out into the lake for a very refreshing swim in the clear, cool water. There are fish in the lake if you bring a rod to try your luck. At the lake there is an outhouse, fire pits , picnic tables and a small dock to fish or swim off. All in all kt was a very enjoyable hike that wasn't overly strenuous but a good little workout. When the sun is shining the shadows throughout the forest is mystical and photogenic. A good hike to take older kids and dogs to the lake.

The road into this trail is rough. You need good clearance (pick up truck) and possibly 4WD. Alternatively you can park further down the road and walk the extra distance. The trailhead is clearly marked and there is a map showing the park boundaries and the trail. The trail has some ups and downs but is not too difficult. We hiked with 2 adults and children aged 9 and 5. The trail ends at a little lake. There is a small dock on the lake that people can use to swim in the lake or to fish from. There is no beach around the lake but there is a small trail that meanders around different parts of the lake. The trail had lots of flowers and some beautiful trees along it. The trail was also clean and well marked. There was a fire pit and a picnic table at the lake as well. I would recommend this trail as a nice morning or afternoon outing for a family or group.

I always look for a nice hike to take our dogs on. The hike into Hai Lake is very nice and the trail is well marked. I choose to hike from the parking area off the Beam Station Road and not the actual parking lot at the trail head. The trail itself is about a mile but if you hike in from the pavement it is about 5 miles round trip. There is a couple of picnic tables, firepits, a dock and an outhouse. If you pack it in, you must pack it out as there are no garbage cans. It is worth the hike but take some water as I don't know what the lake water is like for drinking.

This park has a nice walking trail to a remote lake. The trail is accessed via the Beam Station road off of Queensway street. The trail goes through some original old growth forest and is a nice level walk.

Absolutely love walking out to Hai Lake or up Mount Herman, very peaceful setting, incredible views, quiet, hardly ever any people around to disturb one's daydreaming.
Forest walk down to the lake is spectacular for its old growth trees. The short (over 1 km) walk does require good shoes, it can get slippery, some of the terrain is a bit steep, that's why the walk is considered to of moderate difficulty. Lake is great for dogs to cool down, but a bit too shallow for people to swim. Rustic toilet just before one reaches the lake.
