Lovely nation trust place to visit. Beautiful gardens to walk around. Lovely little cafe area too. I would definitely recommend a bit

Ultimately there really isn't much at all to do. The vast majority of the house is closed to visitors so there was only really 5 rooms, and even with stopping to read about some of the pieces in the room it still took at maximum 15 minutes to look around, including the 5 minute talk about the history of the estate. The gardens were also fairly small and even for someone with a passion for gardening who was looking at every plant it still only took around 30 minutes to complete. The gallery didn't add much as nearly all the photographs weren't of great interest and look like they were found on Google images and printed out. The walks were another issue with little to no signposting apart from a coloured arrow telling you which way to go, however it didn't tell you that you'd reached the end and would need to turn round and didn't tell which path to take when there were multiple options on one occasion, meaning on the two routs we took we got lost both times. The tea rooms were rather inadequate if I'm honest, at a place like this that should be a day out you had either a poor choice of prepackaged sandwiches or cake as the only options for food, and it came to £8 each for a prepackaged sandwich, prepackaged cake, and a canned drink. Ultimately the only reason we stayed more than an hour was because we got lost on the walk twice. What there is is lovely and I couldn't have more positive things to say about those running it/the volunteers and they're the main reason it got two stars, but other than that I can't help but feel it's a bit of a scam.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Gunby Hall and Gardens. There was a wonderful array of colours throughout the grounds which clearly are tended for with great care and affection. Staff are friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. All facilities were open although access to parts of the house are currently restricted due to renovation. Do make sure you plan in advance as advance bookings are strongly recommended.

Thoroughly enjoyed our short visit , arrived just after opening and got time-limited house tickets easily . Knowledgeable volunteers gave interesting historical background information . Beautiful house with a very comfortable ambience, bought to life by the live pianist on the music room ( lovely touch ) , shame upstairs was not open to visitors on the day we went . Grounds immaculately kept , and the walled garden /orchard was beautiful , well stocked and fabulously maintained . Would go again .

All of it. We live in Newark and had friends visiting from Herefordshire over the weekend. All of us are long-time members of the NT and decided this was the 'top of the tree'. Everything from the house to the gardens and estate was in tip-top conditions. The gardens in particular were weeded within an inch of their lives, manured, trimmed etc. The orchard looked so beautiful with its carpet of daffodils. The volunteers were amazing: didn't wait to be asked but provided information as soon as they heard a comment from someone. And it appeared to us as though they loved the house as though it was their own. Well done, ladies and gents!

We visited on the first Saturday of April and were fortunate to have a lovely sunny day but were nevertheless pleasantly surprised at the amount of colour on view.
The gardens were immaculate as usual with lovely naturalised displays of daffodils as well as some hyacinths and magnolias. On the path back from the church to the sweeping grounds at the back of the Hall there were magnificent displays of magnolias and cherry blossom.
St Peter's church is worth a visit and has a lovely churchyard with a seat with truly lovely views. Whilst slightly off piste above it is on a plane flight path and with flight tracker you can see where they have come from/going to - passes the time. There are also some nice seats in the Hall grounds to relax and admire the views.
We had a coffee and biscuit in the courtyard cafe and enjoyed an excellent display of paintings for sale in the Orchard Gallery. We were privileged to see the Gunby cat, 'Committee' aged 19 enjoying a doze in the sunny greenhouse.
This is a real gem of a place to visit at any time of the year.

Stayed at Orchard Cottage. A beautiful well appointed cottage secluded in the middle of nature. Loved the feeling of being able to view the gardens when the Hall was closed. The gardens are beautiful and the head gardener was so knowledgeable and helpful to a novice like me. When we first arrived we were greeted by a lovely lady and she set the tone for every one we met there. Friendly and welcoming. Well worth a stay

Gunby Hall is a property run by the National Trust in the Lincolnshire Wolds between Spilsby and Skegness.
It was owned by the Massingberd family for 250 years. The family had connections or were friends with people such as the composer Vaughn-Williams, the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson, Charles Darwin and Samuel Johnson of dictionary fame.
The grounds are beautifully maintained and the house well furnished. On my visit there was a pianist playing in the music room. Tickets for timed admission to the house can be obtained from the courtyard which also has a tearoom and second hand bookshop. You can also picnic in the grounds.

Absolutely lovely weekend at Whitegates Cottage, a superb mud & stud thatched cottage for two. No tv just a relaxing, peaceful weekend. Walked cross country to Gunby Hall -closed until 12th Feb , never thought to check (!) never the less a smashing day for a walk.
Best of all.....only half an hour from home.

I admit to being biased but Gunby Hall is one of my favourite NT properties anywhere in the UK. There are only c 4 in Lincolnshire and imho it is much nicer than Belton House.
Our final visit of the year turned out, because of winds on the Sunday, to be their last open day of 2021. The Saturday morning weather was truly dreadful but when we arrived at half one the sun was out and there were blue skies - clearly someone was looking down on us.
There is a large and new car park and a scenic walk between lines of lime trees to the Hall & Gardens - some may whinge but it isn't far. We enjoyed a very nice latte coffee & citrus cake in a stables? cafe in a previous life? but there were also plenty of tables outside in the courtyard No wait to be served - Belton please note , where the wait is often 30 mins.
The well maintained walled gardens were still a joy at the end of October and pleasingly some good colour. There was a good water colour exhibition in the Orchard Galleryand on the way to St Peter's church there is a very scenic small stretch of water. The church is not looked after by the NT but is in the NT grounds and on this visit it was open and is well worth a visit. There is a lovely seat in the church yard to sit and reflect.
There are walks to do in the grounds and on the way back to the Hall there is another brilliant placed seat to admire the grounds and back of the Hall. The grounds are not big but there is plenty to see including the Dovecote. The toilets could do with an upgrade. Website is excellent and informative.
In summary, this was a truly lovely visit on a glorious, peerless late October Saturday afternoon. The staff are friendly and helpful and Gunby doesn't suffer from NT wokishness. Roll on 12th February next year when it reopens!

can somebody tell me why nobody from gunby hall is answering the questions?
Astrid G
Spilsby, England, United Kingdom6 bidrag
We're really sorry not to have answered your query before but due to IT issues we could not get into this feature until recently.
Gunby is open from mid March - end of October. The gardens and tea-room are open 7 days a week from 11am to 5pm; the house is open 5 days a week (closed on Thursdays and Fridays).
Best wishes from all of us at Gunby
