Great visit to add onto the lion and rhino park. We had an excellent guide Alex, who did a great job. Everything was clean, neat and tidy. Alex organised and showed us this awesome living cave.
Highly recommended to end your day.

While visiting the reserve we also went to the caves. Getting into the caves is not for the faint hearted. 1st you go down a steep and narrow set of stairs and the take a small lift to the floor of the cave. The cave is basically one big hall with impressive formations growing from the ceiling and the floor. The guide takes you through the cave on the path and shows ertakn formations and tells about the history of the cave. Although the tour is not very long it is still worth a visit.

Several years ago a farmer was losing his cows, and couldn't work out how, until he discovered they were falling down a hole, and discovered these incredible caves.
Bats, staligmites, this place is really unique, one well worth visiting.

WONDER CAVE - KROMDRAAI. Discovered by Italian miners in 1898. The third largest cave chamber in South Africa. Rustic charm. A rather steep descent of 87 stairs takes you to the lift which takes you down into the heart of the cave. Guide points out really interesting formations in the cave and gives more insight into the limestone mining in days gone by. #touristguide #touristinmyowncountry #caves #stalagmites #stalagtites #gauteng #southafrica

Went to see the rhino's and found this hidden cave. It saved us a drive to Cango Caves. Minutes from Lanseria Airport. Definitely worth the money. Restaurant was closed. Put on comfortable shoes it is quite a climb up and down. Just big enough to feel like a worthwhile trip with small kids.

We have visited the Rhino and Lion Park on a number of occasions but have never been to the Wonder Cave, due to part of the descent into the cave being by a lift. I get claustrophobic so was worried about this part. We went with our children aged 11 and 8 and they were totally fine, as was I. The steps leading down are steep and there are about 85 of them but it’s not too strenuous The descent via the lift is totally fine and a bit rickety and noisy. What worried me the most was not being able to get out of the cave should the lift fail, but there is a metal ladder as an emergency exit.
The cave is definitely worth a visit and is not badly priced if you include it as part of your entry into the Rhino and Lion Park. An extra R50 per a adult and R20 per child.
The guided tour leaves on the hour and takes approx. 45 mins.

Well worth a visit. Stalactites abound which make these caves eerily beautiful and you can also guess what the look like. Its a surprise at how beautiful it actually is beneath the cave as as you walk down towards the lift no secrets of the cave are revealed. Take a torch along as it will help to see more and the unlit areas, camera torches dont really help.

What a gem of a place. Well worth a visit. Stalactites abound which make these caves eerily beautiful. There are lots of stairs, steep incline, down to the cage lift which takes you the rest of the way into the cave. Floor is raw and uneven, so need to be careful and sure-footed. Areas are quite dark but we used the torch on our cell phones to help illuminate the way. Not for those with serious mobility issues. Enjoyed this tour more than the more-famous, and larger, Sterkfontein Caves. Excellent guide who was knowledgeable and engaging.

We want to visit the Wondercave only ( have already previously visted Rhino and Lion Park), is there braai facilities?

Yes they are in the same area, about 10km apart. The Sterkfontein caves and visitors centre is done by inter alia sowetotours who collect in Johannesburg. The Wonder cave is in the Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve. If you are here on a sunday morning they feed the lions and cheetahs and wild dogs. Most travel agents and hotels will be able to give you other tour operators names. Hope this helps.

How young can the children be? What is recommended
Klaus G
Pretoria, Sør-Afrika1 074 bidrag
Hi Karen, I would say 5-6 years recommended and older, but young children who are interested can also go. The entrance is down some steep stairs and the floor in the cave may be uneven or wet and there are bats. So the children need to be well controlled and monitored. Consider claustrophobia and fear of heights, but if the children are not prone to phobias, then that's OK. Younger than 3 are free but decide how much they will take in.
Enjoy,
