This was the first time we had been to Bristol museum and we had a lovely time. We enjoyed the Egypt section and the dinosaurs and extinct animals exhibits. It’s a plus that it is free to get in. A lovely afternoon treat.

Firstly I should admit some bias as I am a local and a member of their patron program, which should give an idea that I like this place a lot. For the museum of a relatively small city it has a fine collection of art, the particular highlight for me is the gallery dedicated to the Bristol School of artists from the early 19th century, which is home to (amongst other things) a painting of a sunset at sea by Danby which would be a highlight of any museum.
There are also fossils collected during ts 200 year history, some collected by Mary Anning, and some collected before the term "dinosaur" even began to be used, collections of Chinese and Japanese porcelain and glassware, and locally produced Delftware. The museum also has a collection of Japanese woodblock prints which are sometimes on display, and even one of "The Great Wave" by Hokusai which is often displayed.
One section that is easy to miss is the collection of maps of Bristol dating back centuries which give a fascinating (for me, anyway) insight into how the city has grown and changed. One of the earliest shows Queens Square as a marsh, for example.
While I gave the date of my last visit, I have been many times over the years and will go many more.

Visited here on a Saturday morning and place as packed with children. The first few floors (natural history, local history etc) held little interest for me. However, the art gallery on the top floor was decent and spend an enjoyable hour or so here. It was also mush quieter up here. The museum is free to enter but loads of donations bins throughout.

The museum is free. The building itself is also stunning. This has something for everyone and is spread out over several floors. The replica plane hanging from the ceiling is the showpiece. The fine arts collection is impressive, with some well-known artists on display. A fun way to kill a couple of hours.

I spent 1.5 hours here recently with a friend - slightly confusing layout (to me) but we managed to see everything we wanted to see. Lots of signposts and maps within the museum. The lady at the front desk was also very helpful.

The museum itself is great, but this is about the VR Lascaux exhibit which is currently £15 per adult.
Three of us bought tickets, but all three of us had glitches in our VR experience, all different glitches, but we all made it through to the end eventually.
Once underway, it was magical for about eight minutes as the programme made you feel as if you were in the caves, as the caves and paintings were all around us.
After that, there seemed to be a prolonged period when we were in darkness then when it carried on there were only panels of paintings to see, with blackness everywhere else.
At this stage, frankly we would have been just as well off looking at a photograph on a wall.
Although we all had individual headsets on, we all shared this experience so although at the time I thought my programme was faulty we assumed that this was deliberate.
There was a short scene at the end where the cave once again enveloped the user, but by then the magic of the first half was gone for us.
In all, worth the £15, but it could have been much better.

We went to see the Lascaux VR experience. It was really good. And generally the staff were superb too. However, I was so very disappointed with the way the experience ended. With no noticed the machines started shutting down and we were asked to leave because the staff had to prepare for a wedding. At the very least we should have been told this as we entered so we could plan our visit accordingly.

Brilliant lady on reception, great exhibits & installations, location, facilities & café.
We enjoyed the ceramic & delftware, Asian pottery, period pieces & the "we were everywhere" exhibition which detailed the second world war & pre-partition India. It both deeply saddened & enlightened me at the same time. An interesting & thought provoking exhibition. Thank you!
Definitely worth a visit. Bristol is full of history & brimming with stories just waiting to be heard.
Entry is free but a £5 donation is recommended (a small price towards upkeep of this magnificent building).
*Lockers are available but you'll need a £1 coin*

Fantastic few hours spent with the family. Free entry, but they do have donation pots.
Some very interesting exhibits and art including a Banksy (paint pot angel). The stuffed animal and the dinosaur sections were probably our son's favourite sections to explore. But so much for a variety of interests such as the Egypt area and geology/minerals. Along with Eastern, French and modern art.
The café has very reasonable prices, £3.50 for a ham sandwich with lovely thick bread and lots of ham.
Only one elevator, so be aware if travelling with a buggy but we had no problems waiting for it.
Great place to spend a few hours!

How long does it takes to go around the museum?

The Museum is not massive and you can spend as short or as long as you like depending on your interests. There is plenty to see there though. I could spend a couple of hours there myself.

Hi - Sorry - only just seen this.
We were on foot I'm afraid so would not have been able to give you a decent answer.
Hope you went and enjoyed the Museum as we did.
