It is the Second College (always with paid admission) that I Recommendation to visit in Cambridge, inside which you can cross the famous Bridge of Sighs of Veneziana Memoria. Fascinating.

Lovely city with lovely buildings. Awful city for the disabled to visit. Might as well have signs on the outskirts stating " Disabled Not Welcome Here" No where to park anywhere near where you want to be if you have limited walking ability. Plenty of camera traps everywhere designed to make driving around Cambridge virtually impossible and very lucrative for the council. Too many tourists. Fleets of coaches arrive every day. They offload herds of tourists who stand in the road taking photographs whilst cyclists have to swerve around them and find many other ways of getting inthe way..Many of the shops pubs and restaurants are aimed at the very well off and accommodation, even within in the colleges is much more expensive than other cities. Generally It is an expensive city to visit and to study and live in. It is a beautiful city but to me it feels overcrowded, congested and a bit of a rip off.

My visit for dinner was actually January 2023 but I forgot to write a review.
St. Johns is a beautiful old building with lots of history. My colleagues and I had dinner here after a seminar. Apparently the room we were in used to be the headmasters office. It was a lovely experience, we were all seated around a long banquet table. The staff were great and the food was amazing, possibly the best steak I have ever eaten. I really enjoyed my visit and would thoroughly recommend St. Johns for dinner!

I always take any of my guests to visit St. John's whenever someone visits me at university. Although I do not go to John's, it is by far and away the most beautiful college (to me) on campus. The three courts leading to the bridge are stunning. Prior to the bridge there are these tall walls that perfectly section the gold building. It is beautiful because of its magnitude - it feels like a palace. There is always a walk on the River from its garden that is just unbelievable to see the college from - it looks like a fortress. It is much easier to get into John's than King's and it is undeniably my recommendation as a student here.

I visited for an event that took place in the college's main dining room.
The setting was gorgeous and college staff were helpful.
After the event, I toured a bit, including the beautiful and famous bridge. A bit of a maze, but that was part of the fun.
So much history in one space!
Worth a visit.

We felt so privileged to be able to stay bed and breakfast here during the university holidays. Brilliant to experience the old rickety staircases up to the rooms (not suitable for mobility issues) and we had a view of the Bridge of Sighs from our en-suite which was fabulous! Rooms are traditional in nature and have two single beds rather than a double because you are staying in student accommodation but they are clean, comfortable and come with complimentary college branded toiletries - lovely touch. Buffet style breakfast in the brasserie was absolutely fine. If your trip coincides with uni holidays - we would highly recommend experiencing a taste of traditional Cambridge University college living. There is so much fascinating history in the colleges. St Johns is also an ideal location for city exploring. Most things you would want to see are within easy walking distance, including the park and ride stop, which is the most economical way to park near the city for a few days break without costing a fortune.

We visited St. John's College during our holiday in Cambridgeshire. We were greeted by friendly and helpful Staff in the Porter's Lodge on arrival.
We wandered around the Grounds on both sides of the River Cam, admiring the diverse Architecture of the historic Buildings. The Chapel was magnificent, although not on the scale of King's College, in its splendour.
The Bridge of Sighs was quite interesting but we could not see a great similarity with the Rialto Bridge in Venice.

St. John's is my favorite Cambridge college to visit. From the backs to the bridges to the scholars, there is a real sense of reverence in this revered academic institution!

Very rude portier. I tried to get his assistance and he was screaming that it was not his ob. College has nice grounds. But, the costumer service was not good.

King's College Chapel often takes up all the oxygen when people talk about incredible sites in the city centre, but for my money the most sustained interest comes when you take someone through John's. You can walk through and across the Bridge of Sighs, wander around the building nicknamed the Wedding Cake, and then walk back along the Kitchen Bridge. You can also see--but not take photos in--John's own outstanding chapel.

£8 for adults, £4 if the chapel is closed for any reason.

Hi Julie, I am interested in the walking tour of St John's college. Can you share when is that conducted and how much do we pay?
Skrevet 11. mai 2016
The college is open most weekdays - although when accademic events are taking place no visitors are allowed.
You can buy entry tickets at the front gate - and visit the main sights within the college.
If you look at the college website you can get more details.
