The importance of being Earnest.
Last day of August with several friends in the Grosvenor Park. What a fantastic performance, absolutely hilarious . The interaction with the audience was first class, I was crying with laughter. Well done Storyhouse keep it going !

Just watched Gangs of New York at the Play in the Park, Grosvenor Park - it’s was absolutely brilliant we were completely sucked in from the start. We go every year and have to say this is the best performance to date.

I have wanted to visit for so long and last night came to see sister act, I think this is one of the nicest modern theatres I have been into, all the seats seemed to have a very good view of the stage with no obstruction. The drinks etc were reasonable compared with other theatres I have been to which are normally very over priced. Would recommend coming here

Our first visit to the Storyhouse & won't be our last. We found the whole set up excellent.
A lovely intimate theatre with great seats I can't imagine there being a bad seat.
The whole team especially the volunteers were so helpful and friendly and welcoming.
We watched Kinky Boots which was an excellent show with a very talented cast who could act, sing, dance & play musical instruments. Loved the performance including the immersive catwalk segment at the end. We were informed before we attended that the last 10 minutes of the show would be outside the theatre and anyone with mobility issues could arrange help with seating. We loved that the final scene was immersive and even though it appeared the show was sold out we had an excellent view of the stage area. It made the experience more fun as people were getting more involved by dancing and clapping along with the cast
Afterwards we stopped for a couple of hot drinks and sat in the bar area to let the crowds leave before we left to catch a train home. It was great as the cast came out & mingled and chatted to everyone after the show which was an added bonus

Went to Storyhouse to see Kinky Boots. Was enjoying the show until we were asked to leave our seats 15 minutes before the end and make our way to the Atrium. There was a runway stage set up there where the finale was staged. Unfortunately we were some of the last people out and consequently at the back of a large crowd around the stage (many of whom had not paid to see the actual show, as we were now in the bar area). There were some seats for disabled but there was no way I could get through the crowds of people to these seats so was forced to stand at the back. We could see the performers on the TV screens but could not see much of the stage and the screens did not show their boots. I always look forward to the climax of musicals when everyone can clap/dance in their seat etc. This completely spoiled the end of the show for us and instead of leaving feeling uplifted at having seen a good performance, we left fuming, feeling we had only seen half a show.

Saw Kinky Boots, the show itself was mostly great. At the end we were all instructed to move from our seats to the lobby for the finale. A runway was set up for the final act, amazing in theory but we could not see a thing. We ended up stood at the back with the sound of drinks being made behind us at the bar. We could see the performers heads but saw nothing of the boots, the highlight of the show. Thoroughly disappointed.

The Storyhouse is really needed in Chester. It is the only library and theatre in town and has only been open or a few years. It won all sorts of awards but as a destination for disabled people it is a no go area. What's wrong? Here's a list!
Disabled toilets are kept locked, so you have to find a member of staff to open it, but the staff are difficult to find as they don't wear anything to identify they work there ( they have a lanyard but so do lots of visitors). Even when you manage to find a member of staff, they don't all have a key, so they go looking for someone who does. The member of staff I asked went in search of a key and after 10 minutes did not come back. Another staff member said " she must have got waylaid."
The library information desk is on the second floor, but there are no signs at the entrance door telling you this and when you eventually get to the second floor, the information desk is up more stairs, not easy to access from a wheelchair.
The door numbers into the theatre are fixed to the doors, when the doors are open they can't be seen,
No evacuation chairs on floor one or two just a notice telling you "not to use the lift in the event of a fire."
The cafe area has high tables and stools, very trendy but, again no use if your confined to a wheelchair.
Lastly, if you want to get into the theatre the staff will remove seats in the auditorium but, they are by the side of the stage so vision is very restricted.
Sorry, this is by far the worst venue review I have ever put on line, but even asking the "management" very politely to consider making g some minor changes to make the Storyhouse usable for the disabled they point out that "they have won awards" and welcome all visitors. If you are a visitor to Chester give this place a wide berth.

Amazing venue. Located in the city centre there are plenty of places to have a drink and go for a meal beforehand. We had drink in the Storyhouse before the show started. We found parking really close by and very cheaply by using the - your parking space app. It was so much cheaper than the council run parking.

Looking at the outside it seems out-of-place, a warehouse in the middle of tudor homes, but inside it is even weirder. This cinema is what the future aspires to be, with bold and beautiful décor from the 20s but with all the comfort we crave.
Listen. The seats are like teddy bears, soft and snug and you can lean them back so you can just drown decadently in whatever film you are watching. The staff are exquisite and just as soft, catering to you without any faff. There is free water on offer and if the little water fountain is taking too long? They'll take your cup to the tap in the back and fill it directly for you. Offering effort and service for something they got no monitory gain for is so against corporate greed it shocks and stuns me every time it happens but they preformed so many small, gentle acts with such grace and generosity.
The building was strange and striking in and of itself but the service was such a stella quality I can't give it what it deserves.

Our local theatre. Absolutely brilliant every time we visit. Range of amazing shows from comedy, kid friendly shows, musical theatre, workshops, interviews etc.
The atmosphere in the theatre is always a joy and it is always well manned with various colleagues on each door to get people in quickly and efficiently. They have a lovely cinema with very comfy seats and host a great variety of films.
There are great facilities within the building such as toilets, changing areas etc. The library covers a large part of the building and is suitable for everyone.
There are car parking areas available close by as well as taxi parking available for pick up.
All in all, it's a brilliant theatre which should be a must visit! ✨️

I the views better than most Theatres. It’s a modern fit so I think this has been taken into consideration.

Looking at booking theatre tickets and front row is still available. Is this too close?? Only other seats are pretty much the back row upper circle! Not sure what to do!! TIA 😊

Hi, we were in H row, which was just perfect.2 ladies did move from the front row, during the interval,as they said, it was too close & they craned their neck to see properly, luckily for them, there was some empty seats in F row.

The theatre is new, built as part of the update a few years ago. I’ve been a couple times, and I am reasonably sure that it is to modern standards, and with a reasonable legroom. I don’t have long legs though so legroom is seldom an issue for me. I’ve not been to the cinema, so cannot report on there.

Try Oddfellows really nice rooms and food is very good. When we stayed there we were given a token to park in the NCP car park nearby.
