History, Myths, Legends and beautiful scenery. What's not to like! Not for those with severe mobility issues though as its quite a trek on uneven ground and hilly.

Lovely, energetic, brisk walk along Atlantic Road and past the caravan park along the South West Coastal Pathway to Bossiney and Benoath Coves and then up the Bossiney peninsula outcrop (exposed and windy but offering great views back to Tintagel Castle. after a short rest we headed back along the Coastal Pathway to Tintagel Castle - overall a slightly demanding walk but most exhilarating.

Absolutely stunning views! Not easy walking due to the wind and sometimes narrow footpaths, however if you enjoy Photography this really is a dream walk. I visited for the first time recently when visiting Tintagel Castle. I followed the footpath which eventually led back up to Tintagel Village. It was glorious as it was summer, however I don't think it would be very pleasant in the rain!

This could be quite a difficult walk for some, however, the views make it a worthwhile trip! The scenery was incredible…absolutely stunning. There were some parts that were a little rocky so I would recommend trainers or walking shoes. We did not visit the castle but carried on walking up to Barras Nose where we could see the castle from afar - we also went past Merlin’s Cave where the water seemed very clear! Would definitely recommend this walk if visiting Tintagel!

This walk has some of the nicest views I've seen in the UK. We came and were unable to visit the castle so we decided to try the coastal route instead. We were not disappointed!
On a hot day it can be a tiring walk and some part are quite tricky. If you had difficulty walking or young children I would approach this path with caution. Keep a close eye on children and keep dogs under control.

Decided not to pay to go into Tintagel Castle. Instead decided on this fabulous cliff top walk that takes you very close to Tintagel Castle & you can also visit Merlin’s Cave.
We started in the village of Tintagel & walked towards St. Materiana’s Church then through to Glebe Cliff for some spectacular views of the castle & cliffs.
We then walked around Merlins Cave & up to Barros Nose for some more outstanding views before heading back into the village of Tintagel.
Not a difficult walk, but a bit challenging in parts.
A good walk with some breathtaking scenery.

An English heritage site so if your a member free entry if not it’s £17.50 per adult and you have to pre book online .
The walk is steep / very very steep so wear sensible footwear .
It’s a longish walk on uneven ground , very high up so the weather alters as you follow the path round, across the bridge , where there’s amazing views . There’s not much of the castle left but you get the feel of the place as you read information boards on certain areas of interest .
I personally think it was worth the entrance fee, you can easily spend a whole day here .
I would not say it’s that suitable for very elderly, those with difficulties in walking , small children would find it very long and the steep uneven steps on decent are extremely slippery in places , do not expect to have even paths for pushchairs or walkers . It’s a castle ruin on a cliff . On decent at shop and Loos and cafe there’s the option of Land Rover taxis up the steepest slope up to town . It’s £2.00 an adult and worth every penny .

Not far at all, as soon as you cross the bridge the ruins are in front of you. There are a few resting places such as benches etc, however many people were simply sitting on the grass or on rocks.

Hi I’m coming from London with my 8 and 11 year old boys. How much would it cost for the 3 of us.
And Is it a 1 day trip or best to stay in a hotel?
Thanks
Melanie

To my knowledge the hotels are scarce best to google it and yes you can do it in a full day. Have a great time

Is it possible to do just part of the walk, going as far as point 4 and then heading back to the village?

Yes it is but once you start to walk you will want to carry on.
Wear a comfortable pair of shoes as some of the ground is not level.

We are going in winter when the castle is closed. Is it worth stopping to have a look around or a walk or anything? We are expecting inclement weather but will be suitably attired so dont mind walking.
many thanks

The scenery here is beautiful, big cliffs, crashing waves and probably seals and you can look across to the castle. So personally i think yes as still lots to see. If you've spare time, stroll a bit further south along the Coast Path from point 3 on the walk map (see the web link) to look into the dramatic abandoned Penhallic slate quarries.

Approximately how long does the walk take? We are mid forties reasonably fit couple.

Hi Colin,
The complete details of the walk can be found on the SWCP website. I would think the 3.6 miles could be walked (without a break) in between 1 and 2 hours. Obviously a visit to the castle and a stop (or stops) in the village will add time and enjoyment to your day!
